[And it appears that the scions are making the first move,] Hurricroak noted from her hiding spot. [I figured that they would let the ladies go in first. Chivalry and all that.]
[I'm fairly certain that line of thinking is only applicable when the activities in question pertain to dinner, parties, or exiting a transport vehicle,] Nepherage pointed out. [Not active battlefields.]
[Better...etiquette...to...present...enemy's...head...to...suitor...] Frosttusk rumbled. [Show that...their...enemies...are...your...enemies.]
[...]
[...]
[What?]
[Nothing, just...surprised at that level of viciousness coming from you,] Nepherage explained. [Also, why did it sound like you had experience with this sort of thing?]
[Just...sothing...I know...]
[Is this sothing you learned from that tribal kid?]
[No...he...learned...from......]
[Huh...]
...
Zhen Xing and Zhen Tai were the first to exit out of the workshop and unleash countermoves against the calamities that were about to fall upon their heads.
Normally, throwing oneself into the firing line of three giant calamities was considered an incredibly bad idea, but that didn't apply when the people throwing themselves had the ability to counter with their own equally devastating attacks.
Channeling [Chaos] and aether throughout their bodies, Zhen Xing and Zhen Tai unleashed a pair of giant fiery constructs in the form of a giant fox and a giant snake.
^Foolish children.^
^Their attacks will be torn asunder by my thunder!^
^Not unless they get consud by our cyclone first!^
If these constructs were made with just aether, they would've easily been overwheld by the calamitous attacks and torn to pieces. However, Zhen Tai and Zhen Xing made sure to lace their attacks with the power of [Chaos].
As such, when the two constructs made of flas ca into contact with the incoming calamities...
"BREAK!"
^Wait, what?^
...the cyclones, the fire, and the lightning all broke apart against the coordinated attack of the Zhen Clan scions.
Needless to say, the Calamity Triplets were dumbstruck at the sudden reversal...and they weren't happy about this outco in the slightest.
^No way...NO WAY!^
^How did those brats break apart our attack?!^
^I don't know, but I'm sensing sothing is amiss with those constructs...wait, I think I sense sothing similar charging towards us!^
Unfortunately, they weren't going to have the ti to revel in these feelings for long.
Shortly after their calamities got cancelled out by the constructs, two more warriors ca rushing out of Axer's forge with clear killing intent radiating from their bodies like light shining from a burning candle.
Granted, this killing intent wasn't what the Calamity Triplets noticed first. Instead, it was the strange-ass outfits that these new warriors were dressed in and the even stranger weapons that they were wielding.
^Who the hell are these two bitches?!^
^Wait, isn't that blonde one that Goldshire welp?^
^Stop talking, and defend yourself, you idiots!^
[Gear Shift: Burning Hope Hamr!]
[Dream Shift: Severing Rotation!]
Flanking the triplets from the left was Alicia Goldshire, fully dressed in her [Stigma] and wielding her [Taboo], the Lantern of Progress, like a hamr; she was ready to smash in their sides and knock them into each other.
Flanking on the right was Bellona Ecaredies, her ring-like [Taboo] spinning at a thousand rotations, ready to slash up the triplets like they were nothing more than oversized onions.
To the credit of the triplets, though, they were able to react in ti to defend themselves from the incoming attacks.
[Regalia, manifest!]
Before the attacks could land, the triplets closest to Bellona and Alicia managed to raise their defenses fast enough to catch them before they did any real damage.
Then again, that could've been attributed to the third triplet empowering his siblings by channeling their own aether into them at the sa ti that they were circulating their own.
By pooling their power like this, the Calamity Triplets had been able to repel all manner of attacks from even those at the Aether King rank.
With such a storied history behind their efforts, the Calamity Triplets were more than confident in being able to block the attacks from so young dumb bitches.
That is, until they saw their defenses literally crumble before their eyes.
CRUSH!
SWISH!
^What the fuck?!^
The two defending triplets had thrown up shields made of condensed aether, fully expecting the efforts would've been enough to defend against the odd weapons that clearly weren't [Astra]. However, none of them could've predicted that in the face of these weapons, their defenses would simply lt like snow in the sun.
To be more precise, Alicia's [Lantern of Progress] tore through one triplet's shield like a hamr through a paper door, while Bellona's [Dream Weaver Rings] broke right through the other's shield like rocks being thrown through a glass window.
^Haul ass!^
If there hadn't been a third triplet acting as backup, then the two defending triplets would've ended up suffering mortal injuries.
Sensing the incoming danger, the third Calamity triplet, who just so happened to have his hands on both of his brothers' backs, proceeded to pull them both back with as much force as he could muster and drag them several steps backwards.
The sound of crushed stone and razor-sharp blades bouncing off the pavent was all he needed to hear to know that he and his fellow triplets had avoided catastrophe...which was a very weird feeling for them to have.
The Calamity Triplets were used to being the torntors in most of the assignnts that they had been sent on, not the tornted.
^Wait a minute...^
Actually...now that they thought about it further, it was weird that they were acting in such a panicked manner.
The Calamity Triplets were Aether Lords that had faced all manner of opponents, murdered all sorts of people, and hunted down all sorts of vicious beasts.
In other words, they had faced and murdered all sorts of people that were significantly more dangerous than a bunch of fucking brats dressed in weird clothes and radiating a weird aura.
'Wait, is that aura the reason why—'
But before he could even finish having that thought and revelation, the Calamity Triplets found themselves getting attacked again.
While the Calamity Triplets were airborne, two more aether warriors rushed out of the workshop in order to attack them.
^You want to attack first or should I?^ Lyona asked as she channeled [Chaos] into her fists.
^You hit harder than , so follow my lead so you can land it!^ Taurna instructed her adoptive sister.
^Aye!^
Stepping ahead of Lyona, Taurna struck at the Calamity Triplets first with a burst of electricity originating from her horns.
[Thunder Horns!]
Normally, such an attack would be deflected by the Calamity Triplet that wielded thunder and lightning, but sothing about this particular burst caused him to recoil in instinctual fear.
^Hey!^
^Careful!^
This sudden movent caused the Calamity Triplets, who were all bundled up at this mont by design, to suddenly veer off their intended path and bump into each other.
Needless to say, this left them quite vulnerable for a follow-up attack from Lyona.
^Lyona!^
^On it!^
Several steps behind Taurna, Lyona had been concentrating her [Chaos] into the form of a giant boulder and was now prepared to send it flying like she was about to shoot down an airborne duck with a sling stone.
In this case, it was a trio of bastards with a boulder.
[Wild Lion's Stone Cannon!]
Throwing a powerful uppercut, Lyona launched a boulder that was shaped like a lion's head directly towards the Calamity Triplets with the aim of swallowing them whole before crushing them into a fine powder.
^Godsdammit, stay away!^
At this point in ti, the Calamity triplets had been exposed to enough instances of his weird aura that the effect had sowhat diminished, to the point that one of them was able to use an aether art to try and counter against the weird lion's head flying towards them.
Surprisingly, this was the best course of action for this particular mont.
[Cyclone Breath!]
The attack, predictably, broke apart on contact with the stone lion head due to the weird energy that composed the latter. However, the force of the attack being released allowed the triplets to once again knock themselves away from the path of danger.
As well, it gave the triplets ti to adjust their position in the air and get ready to go back on the offensive. That, and it gave them ti to figure out what the fuck was going on.
^What the fuck is going on?! I thought the boss said that this bitch and her friends were only Aether Masters at most!^
^No, the boss said that she was friends with an Aether Grandmaster, but that Grandmaster had left to go do sothing else this evening. You misread the information!^
^Shut up, it doesn't matter! We just need to fix our mistake and kill them before they have a chance of actually hurting us!^
^How are we supposed to do that?!^
^Well we could-^
^INCOMING!^
Before any more words could be shared, though, the triplets found themselves under attack once more.
"GET OVER HERE!"
^AH!^
