The village had no peace the entire night.
anwhile, Uzumaki Shuji remained unusually calm. There was almost no chance anyone would trace the incident back to him. Still, he knew that from now on, the number of Anbu monitoring him and Naruto would definitely increase. As expected, suspicion had fallen on the Uzumaki clan.
Danzo hadn't died. Uzumaki Shuji wondered if he had realized that what he used wasn't the Adamantine Sealing Chains. And then there was Ea… With all those elents combined, Danzo must be thoroughly confused.
…
"Only Danzo survived. Fifty Anbu are dead!"
"So this is the strength of the Uzumaki clan?"
"To dare act so boldly within Konoha… could other clans be helping them?"
Fugaku Uchiha received the full report early the next morning, and the news left him deeply shocked. In his mind, for the Uzumaki to act so brazenly, they must have had assistance. Otherwise, just staying hidden would already require imnse effort.
"Our Hokage-sama probably won't be sleeping well for a while," Fugaku said with a faint smile.
Having such a powerful ally… he felt it was truly a blessing for the Uchiha.
"But… it's not exactly an alliance anymore… I seem to have led the Uchiha into becoming subordinates of Uzumaki Shuji…"
His expression froze.
After signing that contract, their relationship was no longer equal cooperation. It had shifted into sothing closer to lord and subject—though not quite master and servant. Still, if that child could truly reach such heights in the future… then being a retainer wasn't so bad.
At the very least, Uzumaki Shuji seed far more tolerant than Konoha.
…
Just as Fugaku expected, Hiruzen Sarutobi couldn't sleep at all.
He had stayed awake the entire night.
After learning the full details, his anger surged.
To dare carry out such an attack within Konoha itself—this was outright provocation.
Even if those who died were Danzo's subordinates, they were still originally drawn from the Anbu. Root had suffered severe losses, though it hadn't been completely wiped out. At least half of its strength remained.
"So after losing so many n, you still can't confirm whether the attacker was from the Uzumaki clan?"
Hiruzen's expression was terrifyingly dark. Across from him sat Danzo Shimura, whose face looked just as grim.
The Mangekyō Sharingan he had painstakingly obtained from Shuji Uchiha was gone. Though he had already transplanted an arm made from Hashirama's cells, he hadn't yet implanted additional Sharingan into it—he simply didn't have enough for experintation.
So he had been forced to use Uzumaki Shuji's eye as the price for Izanagi.
"The chain technique he used was indeed very similar to the Adamantine Sealing Chains," Danzo said stiffly under Hiruzen's pressure. "But his golden hair… and especially that final attack… don't match the records of the Uzumaki clan."
He concealed the truth about Izanagi, only claiming that he had escaped quickly by luck. The attacker had likely feared being surrounded by Konoha forces and fled imdiately after using that forbidden technique.
Hiruzen knew Danzo was probably lying, but he didn't care about how Danzo survived.
"Golden hair…"
His thoughts briefly drifted to the blond-haired Uzumaki brothers, then he shook his head.
"No… I'm overthinking."
"It's more likely a surviving descendant of the Uzumaki clan, not a pure-blood, who obtained so kind of secret technique."
"Was he alone?"
After voicing his analysis, Hiruzen turned to Danzo.
"…He was alone," Danzo answered stiffly.
He had been defeated by a single person despite having over twenty Anbu with him. It was humiliating.
"Then his strength is formidable. He only used two techniques—sothing akin to the Adamantine Sealing Chains and that powerful forbidden technique. He didn't even rely on taijutsu."
"His strength should be at the level of a Kage. The fact that he specifically targeted you… is it because you've been keeping an eye on the Uzumaki brothers?"
Hiruzen continued his analysis.
"That's the only explanation," Danzo replied. "But when I went to the jinchūriki's house, very few people should have known."
"It seems we have a traitor within our ranks. This is the second ti already. Could the Uchiha incident have also been caused by them?"
Danzo's hatred toward the attacker burned fiercely.
He had lost manpower.
Lost face.
And more importantly, lost Uzumaki Shuji's Sharingan.
All of it combined into a fury that, for the mont, even surpassed his resentnt toward the Uchiha.
"Very possible."
Hiruzen exhaled a long breath of smoke.
"Strengthen protection around Naruto. Nothing must happen to him."
"As for Uzumaki Shuji… we'll use him as bait to draw this person out."
His decision was made.
Since the enemy's objective had been identified, there was no reason to hesitate. Naruto was too important to sacrifice. But Uzumaki Shuji… Uzumaki Shuji could be used.
Compared to nurturing a talented ninja for the future, eliminating a current threat was far more urgent.
"You're handing him over to ?" Danzo's eyes lit up. He had long coveted Uzumaki Shuji. Despite his losses, acquiring Uzumaki Shuji could make up for part of it.
"No." Hiruzen shook his head. "Increase surveillance on him. I'll arrange for people to pressure him."
"Let's see if that person can remain calm while watching Uzumaki Shuji suffer."
He had no intention of giving Uzumaki Shuji to Danzo. This plan might cost Uzumaki Shuji—but not necessarily. There was still value in keeping him for future use. Why hand him over now?
Besides, Hiruzen had always guarded against the possibility of Danzo turning on him.
"…Understood."
Hearing that Uzumaki Shuji wouldn't be handed over, Danzo looked like a wronged, sulking wife, his expression dark and sullen.
Still, he resolved to deploy more n to watch Uzumaki Shuji closely.
This ti… he would not fail again.
