Uzumaki Shuji took Naruto ho.
There was no need for him to stay and watch what happened next.
His most important order to Danzo had been simple:
Kill Hiruzen Sarutobi.
So what followed would likely be an all-out conflict.
At the sa ti, the Uchiha would react.
The villagers' trust in the leadership would crumble.
And every major clan would begin entertaining dangerous thoughts.
The clan heads all sensed that sothing was deeply wrong.
What did Danzo an by saying Hiruzen had persecuted them?
The one who had persecuted them most was Danzo himself!
But no one stepped forward to explain.
Every clan leader imdiately realized the sa thing.
This was not sothing they or their clans should get involved in.
Without hesitation, they ordered their people to return ho.
The only ones left behind were the ANBU.
Even they seed uncertain about what to do.
"Police Force, withdraw! Everyone return!"
Naturally, Fugaku Uchiha had no intention of participating.
The person he trusted was not Danzo.
It was the Uzumaki.
That mysterious Uzumaki powerhouse had said it clearly.
The Uchiha would move only when golden light once again illuminated the skies over Konoha.
"Captain!"
Many mbers of the Police Force were furious.
Quite a few had already activated their Sharingan.
"Now is not the ti. Follow my orders and withdraw!"
Fugaku repeated firmly.
Only then did he successfully lead the police force away.
The only people left behind were the ordinary civilians.
The most ignorant.
And the most unfortunate.
Still, in this world, being a villager of Konoha was already considered a blessing.
But their lives remained just as fragile and beyond their control.
"Shimura Danzo has been bought by Kirigakure and has betrayed Konoha!"
"Everything he just said is a lie! Do not believe him!"
Once the clan leaders had withdrawn, Homura Mitokado stepped forward and shouted to the crowd.
The villagers were stunned.
The truth was far beyond anything they could comprehend.
They had no idea whom to believe.
"Everyone, return to your hos imdiately!"
"This area is dangerous. Do not stay here!"
Koharu Utatane arrived as well and began urging the crowd to disperse.
So of the sharper villagers imdiately turned and ran.
The rest quickly followed.
In monts, the streets were packed with fleeing civilians.
Screams, curses, and crying filled the air.
At this mont, no one cared about the villagers.
Everyone was focused solely on their own interests.
"You cannot stop ."
"And did you really think this was my only objective?"
Danzo stood before Koharu and Homura, perfectly composed.
"Don't tell —"
Boom!
Homura did not even finish his sentence before a violent explosion erupted sowhere else in the village.
"You've truly gone insane!"
"All forces, arrest Shimura Danzo!"
"Dead or alive!"
Koharu gave the order without hesitation.
The explosion had co from the location where Hiruzen was being treated.
It was a secret location known only to a handful of people.
Yet Danzo had still targeted it.
Was he really so determined to kill Hiruzen?
…
For the entire afternoon, explosions echoed throughout Konoha.
Danzo's subordinates had gone completely mad.
One after another, they launched suicidal attacks in an all-out effort to assassinate Hiruzen Sarutobi.
Danzo himself, however, had very few Root mbers protecting him.
With almost no real resistance, he was captured by Koharu and Homura.
Hiruzen survived.
But his injuries beca even more severe.
He was consud by absolute fury.
"Who is the person behind you?"
"Why are you doing this?"
"If you wanted the Hokage's seat, we could have resolved it internally."
"What you've done is pushing Konoha into the abyss!"
Despite his wounds, Hiruzen personally ca to the prison.
Danzo had suffered injuries as well, though nowhere near as serious.
"Hmph."
"Hasn't Konoha declined under your leadership?"
"Can you really face our teacher?"
"After what you did to the Senju clan?"
Danzo's questions caused Hiruzen to calm down.
He imdiately realized sothing was wrong.
These decisions had been made together.
Yet now Danzo was placing all the bla solely on him.
That was not Danzo's usual behavior.
"Could it be…"
"Uzumaki Shuji's Mangekyō Sharingan rewrote his mories?"
"Did Uzumaki Shuji survive?"
Cold sweat broke out on Hiruzen's back.
He had known full well what happened to Uzumaki Shuji.
The ability of Kotoamatsukami was terrifying.
He had always feared that Uzumaki Shuji might one day use it on him.
Danzo had acted quickly and eliminated Uzumaki Shuji first.
So of the ninja who ambushed Uzumaki Shuji had even been Hiruzen's own subordinates.
Although Hiruzen knew Danzo possessed one of Uzumaki Shuji's eyes, he believed Danzo could never use it with the sa power as a true Uchiha.
Otherwise, his teacher, Tobirama Senju, would surely have recorded such information long ago.
That conclusion, however, was based on one crucial assumption.
He had not known about Danzo's implanted Hashirama cells.
"The Uchiha…"
"So it really is them."
"As expected, they are a dangerous clan."
"They should have been dealt with long ago."
"After this incident, there is no possibility of coexistence."
"They must be eliminated."
"Uchiha Itachi."
By analyzing Danzo's abnormal behavior, Hiruzen concluded that Danzo had been controlled by Kotoamatsukami.
After decades as Hokage—destroying the Senju, suppressing the Uchiha, and keeping the Hyuga too intimidated to protest—Hiruzen had developed considerable skill in political warfare.
So he imdiately identified the Uchiha as the masterminds.
After all, no one would suspect that a re child was behind everything.
And so, he decided to exploit the pure heart of another young Uchiha.
Borrow outside force to destroy the Uchiha.
And, at the sa ti, kill the chicken to scare the monkeys.
Let every clan in Konoha see the fate of those who dared oppose him.
"Lock him up."
"Do not let him die."
After leaving those orders behind, Hiruzen turned and departed.
Though gravely wounded, he could not rest.
The flas of rage were the only thing keeping him standing.
Destroy the Uchiha.
