"Looks like you won't need to stand guard personally tonight."
Kakashi Hatake spoke to Fugaku Uchiha.
The two stood near the Hokage Rock.
Around them, dozens of shinobi were stationed in scattered positions.
Most were Uchiha.
The next largest group was from the Hyuga clan, and there was also a team composed of mbers from the Ino-Shika-Cho alliance.
Their purpose was simple: early warning.
"There may be trouble tonight. Stay alert."
Fugaku chose not to elaborate.
He could hardly say outright that he suspected his own son might arrive alongside the masked man responsible for the Nine-Tails attack.
"With our current forces, most enemies shouldn't pose much of a threat."
Kakashi sounded puzzled.
At this point, he no longer felt like he was protecting Uzumaki Shuji.
He was more of a sentry and coordinator.
As for the Nine-Tails jinchūriki, there was no longer any need for secrecy.
Everyone now knew that Uzumaki Shuji and Naruto were the sons of Minato Namikaze.
The children of heroes.
That revelation alone had significantly reduced resistance to Uzumaki Shuji's rule.
Combined with the policies he had introduced—especially those benefiting civilian shinobi—support for him among the common people was steadily growing.
"It's possible that Madara Uchiha will return and attack the village."
After a brief hesitation, Fugaku revealed part of the truth.
He wanted to ensure Kakashi did not underestimate the threat.
"The man who caused the Nine-Tails incident?"
Kakashi's eye widened.
But the mont he spoke, both n tensed.
"Has our information leaked?"
"Or perhaps Itachi was your spy all along?"
A distorted vortex twisted in the air.
Obito Uchiha stepped out from the spiraling space.
By the ti Kakashi and Fugaku turned, he was already standing before them.
Neither dared to show the slightest carelessness.
"He's here!"
Fugaku's voice sharpened.
"Be careful of his ability. It's a space-ti technique. Your attacks will pass through his body, but before he can touch anything, he must materialize from the other dinsion."
These details had all been provided by Uzumaki Shuji when he warned Fugaku that this "Madara" might appear.
"So you know quite a bit about ."
Obito sounded mildly surprised.
"Seems Konoha gathered a lot of intelligence."
Still, he was unconcerned.
Any competent opponent could eventually deduce the basics of Kamui after fighting him.
It rely ant he had lost the advantage of surprise.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
At the sa mont, explosions erupted nearby.
The White Zetsu clones Obito had transported with Kamui launched suicidal attacks using explosive tags.
Their target was the three-story tower where Uzumaki Shuji and Naruto resided.
"Damn it!"
Kakashi's expression darkened.
Fugaku attacked imdiately, hurling two kunai that passed harmlessly through Obito's body.
Without pausing, he charged forward, his three-tomoe Sharingan evolving into the Mangekyō Sharingan.
There was no need to hide his true strength any longer.
To lead the Uchiha clan, power was a necessity.
Obito grew more cautious.
He still had no idea what Fugaku's Mangekyō abilities were.
Kakashi followed up, launching shuriken to interfere with Obito's movents.
"Focusing all your attention on will be a mistake."
Obito watched their attacks calmly, not even blinking.
"My objective tonight isn't either of you."
As long as he remained intangible, they could do nothing to him.
Yet they could not ignore him.
At any mont, he could materialize behind them and end their lives.
"One minute."
Fugaku silently counted the duration of Obito's intangibility.
Uzumaki Shuji had inford him that the technique could be maintained continuously for roughly five minutes.
He had deliberately withheld that information from Kakashi to avoid tipping Obito off.
"Kakashi, go!"
Despite his confidence, Obito's words unsettled Fugaku.
The hopes of the Uchiha clan rested entirely on Uzumaki Shuji.
Nothing could be allowed to happen to him.
Kakashi nodded and sprinted toward the tower.
"Perhaps you're underestimating ."
Obito would not let him pass so easily.
To him, this was just a ga.
Whether he captured the Nine-Tails or not was secondary.
What mattered was enjoying himself.
As Obito moved to intercept Kakashi, Fugaku pursued closely.
Just as Obito's hand reached for Kakashi, Fugaku drove a kunai through Obito's torso.
The blade passed through harmlessly.
Obito imdiately countered, reaching for Fugaku.
If he pulled him into Kamui, the battle would be over.
But at that mont—
"Hey!"
Another attack ca from nowhere.
Obito withdrew his hand.
A kunai flashed past his face.
He glanced around, but no additional attackers were visible.
The shinobi guarding the tower had already rushed to the scene of the explosions.
There should have been no one else.
"So that's your Mangekyō ability."
Obito quickly deduced the truth.
He did not yet know whether Fugaku could control only tal, only weapons, or any object he touched.
But he was certain Fugaku could manipulate weapons remotely.
"I have no intention of explaining my abilities to an enemy."
Fugaku continued hurling weapons, seeking to wear down Obito's intangibility.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
Suddenly, all three n were distracted by a thunderous impact in the distance.
Three colossal golden chains slamd into the earth.
High above them, Uzumaki Shuji stood atop the Chains of Heaven, with another chain suspending a still-sleeping Naruto Uzumaki behind him.
At the sa ti, another figure appeared beside Obito.
"I failed."
Itachi Uchiha spoke quietly.
"That child really is the problem."
Obito looked up at the golden-haired boy floating in the night sky.
A familiar face.
After all…
He had once held these two children in his own arms.
"You've got to be kidding ."
For the first ti, Obito's composure faltered.
He simply could not believe that one of the babies he had once cradled had grown into soone capable of defeating Hiruzen Sarutobi.
Power was supposed to be accumulated step by step.
Unless…
That kid was cheating just as much as he was.
