Chapter 1497: Chapter 1497: Different Thoughts and Plans

“I’ve long heard that the City Lord of Swimming City is a renowned master of his generation. I truly wonder, what does his brain taste like?”

The burly skeleton-like man sat on the chair, crossing one leg over the other, his grin cold and soulless. “Disciple, what treasures do you think are hidden in the Azure Emperor’s ancient tomb?”

Hagan Marsh and Ilario Young were in collaboration—one wanted the treasures from the Azure Emperor’s tomb, while the other sought control of Swimming City.

Devlin’s condition, on the other hand, was the elimination of Pendleton.

This had already been agreed upon by Ilario Young.

The forr head of the Young Family promised that once he took control of Swimming City, he would spare no effort in dealing with Pendleton’s people within the city.

The three had struck an accord.

As for the Azure Emperor’s tomb, its treasures were to belong to Hagan Marsh as per the agreent.

“I don’t know what’s inside, but whatever it is, it must be valuable,” Hagan Marsh stood before the Ghost King, his deanor respectful. “Anything coveted by the noble families of Swimming City, anything that could make Adler Haw lower himself to collaborate with the Cook Family, is no ordinary item.”

In truth, all he initially wanted was Swimming City itself.

But working with Ilario Young required a justification that could convince him.

It just so happened—

The Cook Family had unintentionally leaked the secret of the Azure Emperor’s tomb, attracting nurous forces to assist them.

Seizing this pretext, Hagan Marsh managed to deceive Ilario Young.

Once he held power, he would not only claim the treasures but also Ilario Young’s life!

Regarding what treasures actually lay within the Azure Emperor’s tomb, Hagan Marsh genuinely had no clue, nor did he care.

Once he controlled Swimming City, wouldn’t the tomb naturally be his as well?

“Eternal life.”

Devlin, who had been silently contemplating, suddenly spoke.

“What?” The Ghost King was taken aback, not understanding the remark.

“The Azure Emperor’s tomb holds the secret to eternal life,” Devlin turned his head and spoke lightly. “Immortality.”

“Who is he?!” The Ghost King pointed at Devlin, looking at Hagan Marsh. “What nonsense is he talking?!”

The Ghost King, born in the Green Region, ca from a lineage that once practiced corpse-refining for a living.

Precisely for this reason, Hagan Marsh had at tis referred to himself as a corpse-refiner as well.

Thus, during his ti in Swimming City, Xander Cook had mocked him by calling him a ‘corpse tinkerer.’

As society evolved and civilization progressed, the Ghost King and his sect, Gossar Cave, transitioned into being Shadow Warriors.

Furthermore, the Ghost King established his own faction, earning fortunes from the wealthy.

Many years ago, the Ghost King dispatched Hagan Marsh to Swimming City, intending to take control.

But Swimming City was strong, its forces vast and masters abundant—how could it be so easily claid by re mbers of Gossar Cave?

And so—

With the Ghost King’s backing, Hagan Marsh beca a minor entity among the Nine Roads, the one with the weakest status.

Originally, he thought he’d lie dormant for several years, but who would’ve expected fate to offer such an opportunity!

They were now nearing control of Swimming City!

Upon receiving Hagan Marsh’s ssage, the Ghost King had booked a private flight and traveled thousands of miles, arriving in Swimming City within a single day.

As for Devlin, the Ghost King didn’t know him, nor did he harbor any familiarity with him.

To the Ghost King, Devlin was a minor character.

Only monts ago, Devlin’s utterance of ‘eternal life’ had stirred his curiosity.

“Pendleton holds within him Sealing Pulse, the Vein Holder,” Devlin leaned back in his chair, speaking to himself in low tones, “Think Tank of the City Lord’s Mansion, the Bead Pulse strategist, Thunderpeak Hall’s Deputy Commander, the Special Operations Captain of Seven Clouds Academy, and the future… Holy Lord.”

Hagan Marsh nodded silently, choosing not to speak.

He had witnessed Devlin’s skills once before at a scrapyard.

“Pendleton? Bead Pulse? None of that rings a bell. Seven Clouds Academy and Thunderpeak Hall, though—those I’ve vaguely heard of,” The Ghost King furrowed his brow, racking his mory.

Seven Clouds Academy had once reigned as sovereign over the martial world, while Thunderpeak Hall occupied a unique position between sects and factions. The Ghost King had indeed heard of them.

“The rest,” Devlin chuckled faintly, “are far more powerful than those. But of course, I an… without Mad Dragon, who once graced Seven Clouds Academy.”

When Devlin learned that the Holy Lord was hidden within the Young Family, he had devised today’s plan.

First, claiming control over the Middle Three Road to consolidate power, and then luring the City Lord into his trap.

anwhile, the City Lord’s Mansion itself would surely be left defenseless.

Andrew Pendleton would take this chance to raid the mansion and capture the Bead!

First, this would earn him recognition, avenging the death of the Alliance Hierarch!

For Andrew, there was no way to resist such a tempting opportunity.

To maintain his position as the Alliance Hierarch, nothing could be more compelling than personally eliminating his sworn enemy.

Second, it could serve as leverage against the Holy Lord.

Pendleton’s ultimate goal had shifted long ago—from toppling dominion to killing the Holy Lord and usurping Demarco Mount’s legacy.

The Holy Lord was not easy to kill.

This, Devlin knew very well.

But he could be imprisoned—or have his mory sealed once again!

And Devlin himself intended to search for those weapons and unseal the prison beneath Demarco Mount!

Ordinary people who approached that prison would lose their sanity.

But not Devlin!

For while at Seven Clouds Academy, he had found the eighth weapon and deciphered its secrets.

The prisoners were nearly impossible to kill, but the eighth weapon was precisely what could end them!

When the ti ca, who in this world could stop him?

Devlin’s heart raced with excitent!

He was becoming increasingly impatient.

“Really? Then I suppose you are quite the talent,” The Ghost King’s skepticism lingered. “But tell , does eternal life truly exist?”

“It does, and soon you’ll et soone who’s achieved it.” Devlin rose from his seat, slowly pushing away the table.

“Hakeem Ridge claid there’s a tunnel below. Let verify that. Who knows, there might still be so premium cigars hidden in there,” Devlin tapped the floor with his hand.

Sure enough, the sound was hollow.

“Clever,” he muttered as he pulled back the carpet, noticing a tile whose color differed markedly from the others.

Dragging over Hakeem Ridge’s corpse, Devlin pressed his dead hand against the tile.

Buzz.

A small one-ter-wide hatch slowly opened.

Fingerprint recognition—quite advanced indeed.

“Everyone, I’ll head down and take a look. When the City Lord arrives, be sure to let know.” And with that, Devlin leaped down.

He vanished entirely.

“He said we’d see soone who’s achieved eternal life?” The Ghost King still had his doubts.

But the expression on Hagan Marsh’s face suggested that the masked man hadn’t lied.

“Could it be that the City Lord is immortal?” Hagan Marsh mulled it over; the City Lord was the only one they could expect to show up. If not him, then who could it be?

“Could he be notifying them?” The Ghost King slid the table back, sealing the hatch once more.

“Impossible. He betrayed the City Lord for wealth and glory. Once the City Lord dies, the next target will be him!” Hagan Marsh’s gaze turned icy. “I originally planned to use him to eliminate Ilario Young, but this man… he’s far too dangerous!”

To so flawlessly gather the leaders of Middle Three Road in one place, ready to wipe them out in one stroke!

And with one sche, lure in the City Lord, divert his forces, and simultaneously eliminate his allies within the mansion.

The re thought sent chills down Hagan Marsh’s spine!

He couldn’t be allowed to live!

Too venomous!

“Just as well. I’ve been wanting to drink his brains to see what they hold,” The Ghost King sneered, revealing his blood-red teeth.

Tap! Tap! Tap!

At that mont—

A rush of footsteps echoed from downstairs.

“Master, the City Lord has arrived,” Hagan Marsh checked his phone and, through the cara he’d placed downstairs, clearly spotted Ian Jorden walking up with his blade in hand.

“Wonderful. Another delicacy delivered right to my doorstep,” The Ghost King stood, adjusted his belt, and said coldly, “Boys, get ready to move!”
