Now reading: Chapter 1512: Death List (25) from Let's Squander A Billion First!, a Sci-fi novel by Mo Ling.

Chuzheng first went up to the rooftop to observe.

The city was vast, with plenty of high-rises around, obstructing the view, making it nearly impossible to see the entire layout. Down on the streets, cars were parked haphazardly, as if they collided unexpectedly.

In the middle of the night...

Chuzheng decided to go back to that room first—wait until daylight to decide.

Chuzheng casually found a place to lie down. She had rested before and was not sleepy at the mont, occasionally glancing out the window and sotis at the ceiling.

"..."

Unable to sleep.

So boring.

Why doesn’t the moon move?

She had been here for quite so ti, and the moon still hung in the sa spot.

Chuzheng wanted to find a clock in the room, only to discover there wasn’t one here.

Not only was there no clock, but there were no devices to tell ti either.

No electronic equipnt at all...

This was a bit creepy.

Chuzheng pulled out a tir from her Space. An hour later, she confird that the moon in the sky made no changes.

Which ans...

The environntal conditions here might always be like this, with no day and night cycle.

"Ah—"

A sudden scream rang out from the street below.

Chuzheng turned off the flashlight and walked to the window to look down.

Sothing flickered by on the street; she saw soone being dragged and disappearing around a corner, leaving a dark streak on the ground.

While Chuzheng was observing below, gunfire sounded in the distance, quite loud indeed.

But soon, the noise stopped.

Not sure if soone was killed or they managed to kill the hunter.

-

Chuzheng pushed open the unlocked unit door, looked outside, found no danger, and then walked out.

Moonlight shone upon her, casting her shadow on the ground, moving as she moved.

This was a residential area, the gate wide open as Chuzheng walked out.

The street was littered with old newspapers, handbags, clothes, and food wrappers.

Cars were parked randomly by the roadside; so had directly run onto the sidewalk, crashing into lampposts, which caved in their fronts.

Chuzheng walked to the front of the car and took a look inside.

The driver’s seat was empty.

Chuzheng left the car, circled the residential area, and went to the street she had seen from upstairs earlier.

In the desolate city, it seed she was the only living thing.

She approached the spot where that person was dragged away earlier; those dark streaks on the ground were blood stains.

Chuzheng saw a bag on the ground, judging by its condition, it should have been brought by a player.

Chuzheng didn’t touch the bag, instead walking directly into the Dark.

She needed to figure out what the native hunters in this round of the ga were.

-

This street was out of the moonlight’s reach, the ground felt sticky underfoot, perhaps from water or sothing else.

The air was filled with a nauseating sll.

Chuzheng held her breath and walked inside, soon hearing sounds.

The sounds... resembled sothing like an animal feeding.

Ahead, there was a corner. Chuzheng stuck to the wall, cautiously poked her head out for a look.

In the dark corner crouched a tall figure, shaped sowhat humanoid, with limbs that were long—like a bizarre spider.

A scorpion-like stinger tail trailed behind it.

"..."

What a freakish creature!

Scared to death.

The tail of that thing suddenly quivered, as if sensing sothing. However, under Chuzheng’s watch, it suddenly jumped out from the other side.

Then Chuzheng heard a curse.

Three minutes later, the creature returned.

Not carrying anything, presumably the player managed to escape.

Chuzheng released Yin Xian, silently trapping the creature while it fed.

She tugged the Yin Xian, pulling it forcefully outward.

The creature, wrapped by the Yin Xian, was dragged right to her face.

Zizi...

"Ying—"

The creature lay under the moonlight, its skin seed scalded by sothing, producing a sizzling sound, while continuously emitting noises,

"..."

It’s a Yingying Monster!

And still going ying!

Upon close inspection, Chuzheng found it had a human face, though the torso’s limbs were significantly elongated.

It resembled a mutant spider-man...

So, is this round’s the... mutation?

The part of the Yingying Monster exposed under the moonlight now appeared extrely hideous, the corrosion proceeded rapidly.

Chuzheng dragged it back into the shadows.

Out of the moonlight, the ’zizi’ sound on the Yingying Monster’s body ceased instantly.

Chuzheng pulled it out again.

"Zizizi..."

So, this moonlight is their nesis.

The ga has rules; if these monsters had no weak points, running rampant in the city, players who can’t initially find solutions would almost certainly face death.

With this limitation, it provides so degree of safety to the players.

You can’t have players dying all at the start; otherwise, how would you keep playing...

As Chuzheng observed the Yingying Monster, other creatures started rushing over from the darkness on the other side.

Chuzheng: "!!!"

No!

Why are you calling for others?!

One after another the Yingying Monsters quickly approached, Chuzheng noticed that brief contact with the moonlight didn’t harm them, like when crossing a patch of moonlit ground.

They stood in the darkness, at least two or three dozen.

Or more...

So were already hidden in the shadows, unseen by Chuzheng.

Before she could decide whether to run or fight, the Yingying Monsters suddenly turned around and fled.

They moved even faster than when they ca, disappearing without a trace in an instant.

Chuzheng: "??"

Yingying Monster: "Ying!!"

Chuzheng belatedly realized that, as the Grim Reaper Player, these native hunters wouldn’t harm her.

Chuzheng hurriedly dragged her ally back into the shadows.

The ally Yingying Monster was yinging enthusiastically.

"Can you talk?" Chuzheng squatted down to chat with it.

"...Ying!"

"You can’t?" Chuzheng was disappointed: "Then what’s the use of you."

Chuzheng pondered for a mont: "If you understand what I’m saying, nod your head."

"Ying."

The Yingying Monster neither nodded nor shook its head, just emitted that sound, with even less inflection than before.

"Moonlight is your nesis."

"Ying."

Chuzheng gave up trying to communicate and released the creature.

The Yingying Monster rolled on the ground twice; whether it was apprehension of Chuzheng or because she was an ally, it lay there watching her.

Seeing she made no further moves, it finally scooted towards where it had been ’feeding.’

It really scooted...

Hands and feet moved sideways like a crab, inching along.

Glancing at Chuzheng as it moved.

Finally reaching its target, a few seconds later...

"Ying!!!"

Chuzheng: "..." What are you yinging for now? Trying to scare soone to death!

Chuzheng stared into the darkness for a while; the ground there looked darker, but nothing remained.

Chuzheng: "..."

Those Yingying Monsters that ca earlier already took its food?

The Yingying Monster jumped in place angrily before chasing after the Yingying Monsters that had left.
