Episode Two Hundred and Fourteen: Low Inventory
Bacon sizzled in the oven and it made the kitchen sll just so good.
The Cat sat on the island watching , but every ti I looked at him his eyes had sohow shifted away. Then I’d feel his gaze again as soon as I looked away.
Indigo flew around, humming so song she had been listening to for her music test. Sothing classical that I couldn’t put my finger on. Surprisingly, she was in tune.
I stirred the sauce in the pot, hoping this worked out well. Those dang magical eggs benedict were on my mind, and as much as I wanted to order them again, I instead wanted to try making them myself, first.
The sauce appeared to be coming together how it should, based on the recipe I had on my phone. Poaching the eggs hadn’t been too difficult with the vinegar trick. Now, all I needed was for this to taste good.
Plates appeared on the counter, along with the toasted English muffins. I went to snag the bowl with the eggs, but they vanished and appeared on the muffins. Shrugging, I grabbed the pot with the sauce and drizzled it on top.
It slled good.
“Alright, this should be tasty, just gotta grab the bacon out.” One last step. I pulled the bacon out of the oven and plated it onto paper towels.
I added that plate to the center of the island. Then I finally sat down.
Indigo dove into her egg with her snout breaking the yolk. “Woah!” she said.
I used a fork and knife, getting a little bit of everything before popping it into my mouth.
“This is good,” added the Cat.
“It is,” I muttered between bites. The food wasn’t as good as the magic food had been, but it was pretty dang tasty. It took longer than I usually wanted for breakfast, but that was okay. It just wouldn’t be an every-day kind of thing.
“Can you make this again?” asked the Cat, who had sauce covering his nose. Yet, his plate was completely clear.
I still had half my plate left. Though, I grabbed a slice of bacon for myself and added a few to each of their plates. The bacon crunched nicely and provided a burst of salt and smoke to the eggs. I slowly finished my plate, even as I felt both of them staring at my food.
I leaned back, a little careful to not fall over, and sipped on my basic coffee. Today felt like an Aricano day, which was unusual for . I’d forgotten how tasty the espresso was just by itself, and it reminded I had no clue where the beans ca from. The location noted on the package didn’t exist on my world.

“What’s in the book for today?” I asked, after a few sips.
The Cat glanced at Indigo, who launched herself into the air and flew to the hallway.
“Lady Twilight will stop by, then a custor...” he mumbled, trailing off.
Indigo spun midair and chirped frantically in a happy tone. She then shot out of the room.
“I bet she has things she wants to show Lady Twilight,” I muttered before standing. “At least it should be a good day.”
The Cat said nothing as he left the island and padded to the front.
“Are you okay?” I asked.
He paused and glanced back at , before nodding. “I am alright. Coffee will be good.”
I hurried to catch up and make him a latte with plenty of cream instead of milk. At least that was the plan, until I pulled the container of heavy cream out and it was practically empty.
I stared in shock before tossing it into the small trash can behind the counter. We actually hadn’t run out of much during my ti in the shop that I didn’t add to the shopping list. This was a first.
Instead, I went with milk, which we had plenty of inside the small fridge under the counter. I double checked the cold brew coffee and we were good with that.
I set his tea cup in front of him, wishing I could do fancy milk and espresso art, but that really wasn’t my thing.
He nodded at the drink, then slowly lapped at it.
I added the extra to my mug, not really caring about the change up the stead milk provided. The extra shot was more than worth it.
My thoughts remained on inventory, and potentially going through the fridge and freezer to make sure that we had what I thought we had. In the beginning, the shop had plenty of stuff stored sowhere, but now it seed we had dipped into that store and needed to replace so things.
A knock on the front door caused to jump, and glance at the Cat. “If that’s Lady Twilight, let her in. I got a little distracted.”
The door unlocked and Lady Twilight stepped inside carrying a backpack with a cat’s head sticking out of it. Surprisingly, she wore jeans and a purple sweater, along with a long black coat. “Sapphire, see? Now you can co out, but not while we are outside.”
The cat leaped out of the zippered bag and midair turned into a small blue dragon in mid air.
“Good morning, Lady Twilight, and Sapphire,” I said, taking a sip of my much warr coffee.
Chirps echoed down from the living room, and Sapphire flew in that direction.
“It’s nice to see you, Sable.” The backpack vanished, along with the normal clothes. Her purple robes replaced them.
“Not a fan of jeans?” I asked with a smile, before motioning to the coffee machine.
“Jeans have their place, but robes are more fitting for a magical lesson.” Her eyes glittered while looking at my drink. “I’d love sothing warm.”
“Dragon tea, or a coffee?” I wasn’t sure what else to call the beverage, since that’s what Betty labeled it as.
“The tea is fine,” she said with a chuckle as she approached. “Today’s lesson should be a short one. The little ones need so ti to play, and not just study all the ti.”
I brewed her tea and nodded. “About that, I signed Indigo up for so additional learning that she is in love with. But, how much is too much? She was up late last night reading.”
“We love knowledge, and her body will know when it's ti to rest.”
I rubbed a hand across my face. “I wish it was easy for the rest of us.”
“Not getting enough sleep?” she asked as I placed the warm mug on the counter.
I shook my head. “I’m sleeping, just also trying to figure out my magic.”

That’s what’d happened last night. Sable must have used her fate magic to dream about sothing. The dog sll must have co from there, though for her to run into him was strange. As far as I was aware, the dog’s purpose was to guide the race of man, and help them along their path.
I turned away from the two as they kept chatting.
Sable’s path was coming to an end at the shop. She only had so much ti left in her contract, before she’d be gone and out into the wider universe.
Maybe the dog could help her with that. Maybe he already had.
Yet, why did that leave feeling off? Why wasn’t I happy about her getting free of my curse? Wasn’t that what I wanted?
