“Your magic is you, it isn’t so separate thing,” said Lady Twilight, while staring at like she could see into my soul.
Those purple eyes made blink, but I didn’t have a response.
“Magic cos from inside you. It's intimately connected with your soul. Don’t over think it.” She picked up her tea mug and motioned to the stairs. “Can I head up?”
Before her sentence finished, an archway twisted to the right of the espresso machine, and it led to the living room which showcased Indigo and Sapphire flying in the massive space.
Indigo chased after Sapphire and tagged her tail, then flew in the other direction as the smaller dragon twisted about to catch her.
I smiled and picked up my mug, before taking a small sip.
“What about you, do you have thoughts about figuring out my magic?” I asked the Cat. Yet, when I turned in that direction he had slipped away.
I worried about him, and the strange mood that hung around him, but there wasn’t much else I could do.
Instead, I headed upstairs and toward the chair next to the window. So space to think and maybe just relax felt like the right idea for now. My phone buzzed, and I snagged it out to look.
It was a text from Onyx. I smiled and waited until I curled up in the fluffy chair to respond.
Onyx: Got ho safe and sound. Miss you already.
: The visit was so good, and such a surprise! Hopefully, I'll be able to see everyone when my contract ends.
: How's Dad?
I didn’t want to ask that last question. Especially not after knowing the Cat had healed him, or done whatever he did with magic. To my surprise, my phone started ringing.
“Hey,” I said, answering his call, while leaning back in the chair.
“You’re not going to believe this, but his scan ca back clear.” Onyx hesitated. “The doctors don’t know what’s up, but think the original scans might have had errors.”
“Holy smokes, that’s amazing! Maybe Mom’s treatnt plan worked, and they just don’t want to believe it.” I didn’t know what else to say as I watched snow float around the rooftop deck.
“All I know is that Mom’s ecstatic, and Dad just has this look on his face. He doesn’t want to talk about it.”
The Cat had really healed my Dad, getting rid of his cancer. Everything inside shifted. Not much, but it was like my core brightened. Shadows were chased out.
“I’m just so freaking happy,” I said, letting the feelings wash over .
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
“Well, nothing else to add about here. I’ll suggest Mom call you in a few days.”
“Sounds good. Love you!”
“You too!” Then he hung up the phone.
I let out a deep breath, smiling. It wouldn’t be long until the snow vanished and the first bits of spring reappeared. Though, I bet if I asked Betty if the roof could be sowhere warm, that’d happen in an instant.
Right now the snow felt good, even while in the hot tub. But I wouldn’t go in until Lady Twilight left, and we were done for the day. A surprise custor while in my swimsuit would be awkward.
Since my phone was already out and Indigo was distracted, I checked the online school platform to see what she had accomplished. She’d taken two of the tests so far, Art and Math. Art she did fine on, and had unlocked any of the classes for the middle or high school levels. Math caused to pause and stare at it a bit. Algebra I.
She’d made it into Algebra I, which had to be a high school class.
My mouth went a little dry as I tried to rember anything from that class. Helping her with howork might be difficult. There were how-to guides for the parents with reminders of how the subject worked. I made a ntal note to review those if she had any questions.
She still had History, English, and Music to take, plus Science.
Sohow, I thought she’d be taking classes for elentary or middle school, not high school subjects. I had to assu she was learning even faster than I had guessed.
I let out a deep breath and nodded. No matter what, I'd figure out how to help her with these subjects.
Chirping laughter rose from the living room, making even more determined for things to work out.
A notification popped up that one book I wanted had finally been released. I downloaded it, planning to just read a chapter or two.

Warmth pulsed under my butt in the chair and my head snapped up. I blinked, realizing I’d lost myself in my book, and needed to check on the magic lesson.
Inside the living room, Lady Twilight cradled a sleepy blue dragon. Indigo pointed at the laptop screen and whispered about it.
Lady Twilight smiled as I entered the room. “This is a lovely schooling system.”
“I thought so, but it's good that you approve.” Score one for .
“I wish we had sothing like this for all of the clans, especially to learn less biased history about the dragons clans,” she said.
Lorestone replied in a soft voice, “Soday, maybe, we can figure out a school for dragons, but that is not today.”
Indigo pointed frantically at the screen with a claw, showing the results for Math.
I smiled brightly, but kept my voice down. “It’s so exciting!”
“We’re going to head out and get this little one down for a long nap,” said Lady Twilight. “I’ll have more audio lessons sent to Indigo. She gets them as soon as the Elders record them. The feedback she provides is helping them improve.”
Indigo straightened her spine, looking pleased. “Happy to help.”
Lady Twilight carefully stood and gave a nod. Then she headed to the doorway. As soon as she left the shop, sound burst from Indigo as she started talking super loud and fast about the test scores, and taking another one later today.
“Are you ready to take another?” I asked, trying not to sound critical.
Instead, she nodded. “I read all the music stuff and listened to the songs.”
“She is ready for the music test,” added Lorestone. “This educational system is truly enlightening. I’ve been overseeing the lessons with her, and learning about this strange society.”
He had to be learning sothing, since he spoke differently. Almost like a professor now.
“After Music, Science. Science is fun. Sotis wrong, but fun,” said Indigo. “Plus, I must practice more magic with shadows. Lady Twilight gave a list.”
“Like what?” I asked, thinking of how she vanished into the shadows already.
“Sneaking up on the Cat,” Indigo said each word with a snap of her head.
