The laughter around the sacred riverbank slowly settled down again.
Though several guards still looked seconds away from bursting apart trying not to laugh openly whenever they rembered the phrase crocodile buddy.
anwhile Varga had officially given up trying to correct Devara for the mont.
Instead, she took a slow calming breath before continuing her explanation properly.
The evening winds moved softly through the sacred banks of the Ganga River while the remaining butterflies drifted peacefully around the transford apsaras.
Varga’s expression gradually softened.
"The curse upon us..."
Her gaze lowered briefly.
"...was born from our own arrogance."
Behind her, her sisters also beca quieter now.
The earlier playful atmosphere faded into sothing more reflective.
"We were proud. Too proud."
She slowly explained how they once danced in the celestial court of Kubera and how their vanity eventually pushed them toward foolishness.
Then ca the story of the young sage.
The ditation of his. The disruption which they did.
The anger.
The curse that transford them into man-eating crocodiles bound to sacred waters for one hundred years.
The guards listened silently.
"...."
"...."
"...."
Even Gandhari and Rajmata Satyavati watched with full attention now.
Because hearing the story from Varga herself carried far more emotion than rely hearing legends.
Varga eventually looked directly toward Devara again.
"For a hundred years ...we waited."
Her voice beca quieter.
"Waited for your birth. Then waited for the day you would finally free us."
Devara’s expression slowly changed hearing that. Confusion. Realization.
And then—A slight frown.
-Frown!
"Wait."
He looked directly at Varga now.
"Then why didn’t you tell before?"
Varga blinked once hearing Devara’s question.
-Blink!
She had stayed with him in his childhood. She had all the ti she needed.
Devara continued imdiately.
"You knew I could understand your language."
That part stunned many guards again.
Because apparently their king casually communicated with crocodiles since childhood and nobody had ever considered asking questions about it.
anwhile Devara genuinely looked troubled now.
"If I knew about the curse earlier... I would’ve helped imdiately."
The sincerity in his voice carried no hesitation whatsoever.
"...."
"...."
"...."
And hearing that—Varga could not stop the faint sigh escaping her lips.
-Sigh!
Honestly.
That answer sounded exactly like him.
Even after becoming king.
Even after carrying divine destiny.
He still responded with instinctive kindness first.
"The curse had conditions."
Her voice remained gentle now.
"It could only be broken if the one destined to free us knew nothing about it."
Devara beca silent listening to her.
"...."
Varga slowly nodded.
-Nod!
"We already knew the na of the one who would free us."
"Devaratha."
"The son of Goddess Ganga and Goddess Bhudevi."
"Your destiny was already tied to ours long before your birth."
The sacred river breeze moved quietly around them as everyone absorbed those words.
Then Varga gave him a tired look.
"If we revealed the truth ourselves... the curse would never break."
Devara’s frown deepened slightly.
-Frown!
Because suddenly many strange things from his childhood made sense.
Why Varga always stayed hidden deeper within the waters.
Why she avoided bringing him toward certain places.
Why she sotis looked strangely emotional whenever he spoke about growing older or leaving the river for training.
And perhaps most importantly—Why she endured years of him aggressively calling her "crocodile buddy" without murdering him.
Honestly, that last part alone proved remarkable patience.
anwhile one of the guards quietly whispered toward another.
"So His Majesty unknowingly liberated celestial apsaras by playing hide-and-seek?"
The second guard stared blankly ahead.
"At this point I no longer question anything."
Nearby, Gandhari softly smiled while watching Devara.
Because despite all the divine destiny surrounding him—He still looked less focused on prophecy...
...and more upset that his friends suffered alone for so long.
Finally Devara sighed lightly.
-Sigh!
"That’s unfair."
Varga tilted her head slightly.
"To you?"
"No."
His gaze t hers directly this ti serious.
"To all of you."
The words stunned the apsaras briefly.
Then Devara scratched his cheek awkwardly afterward.
"You waited a hundred years... that sounds lonely."
For several monts—None of the sisters spoke.
Because sohow—Out of everything he could have focused on...
That was what bothered him most.
Not the prophecy. Not fate. Not divine destiny.
Their loneliness.
Devara stood there quietly looking at the five apsaras before him.
Now that the shock had settled slightly, another question naturally ca into his mind.
"So..."
He folded his arms lightly.
"What are all of your plans now?"
The apsaras looked toward him.
Devara continued speaking casually.
"You all are finally free now."
"You can return to the heavens... or Kubera’s court..."
Honestly, in his mind he had already imagined sothing dramatic.
Maybe they would transform into butterflies again.
Or ascend toward the heavens surrounded by divine music.
That sounded like the kind of thing apsaras usually do right.
But instead—The five sisters suddenly exchanged strange looks with each other.
Not sad looks. Not uncertain looks.
More like... They were hesitating to reveal sothing.
"...."
"...."
"...."
That imdiately made Devara narrow his eyes suspiciously.
"...Why are all of you looking at each other like that?"
Behind him, even Rajmata Satyavati noticed the strange tension.
anwhile Gandhari quietly observed the apsaras carefully.
Finally Varga cleared her throat lightly.
"We already have a place to stay."
Devara blinked hearing their answer.
-Blink!
"Oh?"
Varga nodded calmly.
-Nod!
"We will stay with our husband."
Silence. Absolute silence.
"...."
"...."
"...."
Even the river breeze itself seed to stop.
The guards stared blankly.
Rajmata Satyavati slowly raised an eyebrow.
Devara himself looked genuinely surprised.
"...You’re married?"
All five apsaras nodded naturally.
-Nods!
That sohow shocked the guards even more.
One soldier quietly whispered to another:
"When did this happen?!"
The second guard looked equally confused.
"I don’t know! We just got here!"
anwhile Devara scratched his head.
-Scratch!
"Then who are your husbands?"
The mont he asked that question—All five apsaras slowly turned their heads toward him.
The world froze.
Devara blinked once. Then again.
"...Why are all of you looking at ?"
The silence beca heavier.
Much heavier.
"...."
"...."
"...."
Then realization slowly began crawling toward Devara’s face.
Very slowly. Painfully slowly.
anwhile beside him—Gandhari’s expression darkened.
Rapidly.
The warmth from earlier vanished completely.
Her eyes slowly narrowed while staring at the five apsaras standing before her husband.
The guards imdiately sensed danger.
Real danger.
One by one, the soldiers slowly began stepping backward from the royal couple.
Even Rajmata Satyavati quietly moved aside while hiding her amusent.
Because she already understood where this was going.
anwhile Devara pointed at himself with complete disbelief.
"...?"
Varga folded her arms proudly now.
"You freed us from the curse."
"The prophecy itself declared you as our destined liberator and the one who frees us is our soul mate."
Saurabheyi smiled sweetly.
"And according to divine law..."
Samichi continued calmly.
"...We should absolutely follow it."
Vudvuda nodded happily.
-Nod!
"So naturally..."
Lata finished innocently blinking.
"...you are our husband."
The guards nearly died on the spot.
One soldier physically sat down on the sand from shock.
They couldn’t take all these dramas.
anwhile Devara looked like his soul had temporarily left his body.
"...What."
That single word carried the pure confusion of a man whose life had suddenly derailed without permission.
And then—Before the apsaras could continue further—
Gandhari stepped forward hurriedly.
Directly in front of Devara.
Her expression remained calm. Too calm.
Which sohow made it more terrifying.
Then in a firm voice she declared.
"Absolutely not."
The words echoed across the riverbank so sharply that even the guards straightened instinctively.
Behind Gandhari, Devara looked deeply relieved soone had taken control of the conversation because his brain clearly stopped functioning halfway through it.
anwhile the five apsaras blinked in surprise seeing Gandhari step protectively before her husband like a lioness guarding territory.
"...."
"...."
"...."
And just like that—The peaceful emotional reunion at the sacred riverbank transford into sothing far more dangerous.
A conversation between one queen...
...and five celestial apsaras who had suddenly declared her husband belonged to them.
Even the butterflies that still drifted through the evening air seed to slow around the tense atmosphere.
The five apsaras quietly looked at one another before their expressions softened slightly.
Because they understood.
More than anyone else, they understood what Gandhari was feeling at this mont.
Finally, Varga spoke gently.
"We do not wish to hurt you, Gandhari."
There was sincerity in her voice now.
"You are his first wife."
"His first queen."
"The first person who gave him love without asking anything in return."
The other sisters nodded quietly.
-Nods!
Then Varga continued.
"But Devara’s destiny..."
Her eyes slowly shifted toward Devara.
"...is intertwined with many lives."
"Many people tied to fate itself."
"So seeking liberation."
"So seeking guidance."
"So seeking peace."
"He was never destined to walk this yug with only one soul beside him."
The words were not spoken arrogantly.
Nor possessively.
They sounded more like acceptance toward sothing long decided by fate itself.
Then suddenly Varga sighed while rubbing her forehead lightly.
-Sigh!
"And honestly..."
A faint smirk appeared on her lips.
-Smirk!
"...I have already suffered beside him long enough."
That made several guards look confused again.
Varga pointed directly at Devara.
"I have seen him since childhood."
"Naked while bathing in the river."
Devara instantly choked.
"..."
The guards looked horrified.
Rajmata Satyavati outright started laughing.
anwhile Gandhari’s face turned bright red instantly.
Varga continued shalessly.
"Eating."
"Sleeping beside riverbanks."
"Riding on my back constantly."
"Pulling my tail."
"Making play his ridiculous gas."
The other apsaras imdiately began complaining too.
"He never let our sister rest!"
"He kept inventing gas every week!"
"He once tried decorating her with flowers!"
"He made her race turtles!"
Their sister had explained what would happen to them when ever she cos back to visit them.
The guards stared at their king in stunned disbelief.
"...."
"...."
"...."
anwhile Devara looked spiritually attacked by the sudden betrayal.
"I WAS A CHILD!"
"You were a nace,"
Varga corrected imdiately.
Even Gandhari accidentally laughed through her tears hearing the complaints.
But slowly—Her smile faded again.
Because the fear inside her heart still remained.
And seeing that, the apsaras beca quiet once more.
Then Varga softly asked she had sensed the mont they revealed Gandhari’s face showed no surprise but panic.
"...You already knew, didn’t you?"
Those words made Gandhari freeze slightly.
"...."
A mory slowly surfaced within her mind.
Years ago.
Back in Gandhara.
The astrologer.
The mont she had confessed the na of the man she wished to marry.
Devaratha.
And the astrologer’s expression afterward.
"The man your destiny seeks..."
"...will not belong to only one person."
"Many fates are tied tightly around him."
"Even you."
At that ti, Gandhari had ignored the warning.
Or perhaps... She simply did not care.
Because even then, his na already echoed inside her heart.
His face had carved itself into her soul long before marriage.
There was no escaping him.
No forgetting him.
Even if destiny itself warned her otherwise.
Now standing beneath the evening sky, Gandhari quietly trembled while those mories returned.
And then—Warm arms suddenly wrapped around her from behind.
"...."
