I arrived at Tessa and Shane’s apartnt just before three, the afternoon heat already clinging to my skin like regret.

Tessa smiled faintly. "Coffee?"

"God, yes."

She went to pour a cup while Shane leaned against the counter, watching like I was his new favorite telenovela. "So, Reina. Tell us. How’s Daddy?"
