Mason POV
My fingers are trembling with excitent, and I can hardly unlock my truck. Finally, I am inside, and I take out my phone. I dial Asher’s number, and he picks up after the second ring.
“I got the potion,” I inform him. “I’m bringing it to you now.”
“It’s the middle of the night,” he groans. “Can’t this wait till later? It’s not like I’m going now.”
“We’re moving Sunday,” I remind him. “It has to be now.”
“Fine,” he yawns. “I’ll wait for you outside.”
My fingers drum on the steering wheel to the rhythm of a song playing over the radio as I drive to Asher. With the potion, he can get into Constantine and find Gustav. That dude hates my brothers the most. Once he knows where they are hiding, he will co for them.
My biggest obstacle is getting Elara and the kids out of the way before then. And to stall the move. But I am not too concerned about that. I will only tell them it would be safer to move at night.
Asher is waiting for on the porch and runs closer when I park in front of the house.
“Here you go,” I hand him the potion. “Pick a guard, kill him if you want, take his clothes and drink this. You’ll turn into him and can walk around freely. Get to Gustav and tell him to send High Guards to Katie’s house. They’ll find Kane and Axel there.”
“And if he asks how I know it?” Asher frowns.
“Tell him they were seen at a party in Stillwood,” I shrug. “Pick a person you like least and drop their na. Also, when they hear Katie’s house, they’ll co.”
“Okay,” he nods. “I’ll call you when it’s done.”
“One more thing,” I stop him before he leaves. “They know Katie as Elara. Just go with it.”
“Elara. Got it,” he replies, turns around and walks away.
I start the truck and drive ho. After the exhilarating night I had, I have only one desire, and that is to sleep. Tomorrow, I will convince Elara to take the kids for ice cream while my brothers pack. Then, I will disappear with them while the Council arrests Kane and Axel.
I park my truck and whistle as I walk towards the cabin. I am surprised to see the lights on, but I bet they are all curious about my date.
I stroll into the living room and am surprised to see Gabriela, Kane, Axel, and Elara busy packing.
“Look at that satisfied smile,” Axel smirks, putting down a suitcase. “He aid; he scored.”
“And the crowd went wild,” Kane adds. “Ahhhhhhhh.”
“Guys, this isn’t funny,” Elara reprimands them, and looks at . “I thought you said only a date.”
“It was only a date,” I shrug, sitting in a chair. “We had wine and talked.”
“I call bullshit,” Kane rolls his eyes. “Only a man who got laid smiles like that.”
“Believe what you want,” I smirk. “But I guarantee you there’s no hybrid wolf witch baby in the making. Nor will we see her ever again. I made a deal, and I paid my debt. It’s done.”
“Are you sure?” Elara asks, her voice filled with doubt.
“I’ve never been surer of anything in my life,” I assure her with honesty.
“Okay, fine,” she exhales deeply. “That’s good, and one less thing to worry about. So, start packing.”
“It’s like two in the morning,” I frown. “We can do this tomorrow.”
“We’re leaving at nine,” Elara informs , picking up Stella’s teddy and stuffing it into a box.
“People, moving during the day is scary,” I reply, trying to sound nonchalant. I cannot let them see how anxious I am. “We should do it at night.”
“Not an option,” Kane says, closing a box. “We’re eting Braden at nine. He’s taking us to a new place.”
“Where?” I frown, my mind racing with ideas on swinging the situation around to suit my needs.
“Don’t know,” Axel answers. “But after everything he told us, we should get out of here like yesterday.”
“Wh ... what did he say?” I ask, my gut in turmoil. This cannot be happening. There is no way the Council knows where we are. At least, I hope so. Did soone overhear and Asher? Did Elara say sothing to Quinn?
“The Council is blaming for everything,” Elara says, rescuing from my thoughts. I listen intently as she brings up to speed.
“I can’t go,” I blurt out before I can stop myself, and everyone turns to curiously.
“Not at nine,” I say quickly, trying to fix my blunder. “I have a eting with the n I recruited to help us.”
“Just call them and postpone,” Kane grunts, irritated. “It’s not rocket science.”
“Take a mont and think,” I snap, standing up. “How am I supposed to convince them to fight with us if we run away like scared rabbits?”
“They don’t need to know we’re going,” Axel replies.
“They should definitely not know we’re going,” Elara says, looking at with big eyes. “It kind of defeats the purpose. Tell them you’re taking the kids to safety and will return in a day or two.”
“Okay,” I nod, pushing my fingers through my hair. “That could work.”
“What’s wrong with you, man?” Kane looks at suspiciously. “This is sothing you should be able to figure out by yourself.”
“Well, excuse for being confused,” I growl, my agitation evident. “First, you begged to get help, and now you want to postpone it. Decide what you want and let know.”
“We want the help, but tomorrow isn’t the ti,” Elara intervenes. “Now, stop quibbling about nothing, and start packing the groceries. Everything. Braden said we should bring supplies because there’s nothing.”
Without a word, I walk to the kitchen. I take out my phone and text Asher to hold back from going to the Council. If we give them false information once, they might not co the second ti.
“Fuck,” I mutter, putting my phone away and pulling a box closer. This really screws up my plans. But I have no choice. Until I figure out where they are going, I cannot make a move.
