The Shield of the Seraphim.

Matthew recognized the spell Kaecilius was using. It was an advanced form of the basic spell, the Rings of Raggadorr.

A high-level defensive spell.

It possessed extrely powerful defensive capabilities and could even be combined into large-scale or multi-person arrays.

The strength of its protection depended on the sorcerer's mastery of magic and magical power.

Just like Matthew himself.

The storm he had summoned was called the Winds of Watoomb.

A form of weather magic capable of creating hurricanes out of thin air.

However, if one lacked sufficient mastery or magical output, the hurricane could easily beco little more than a weak gust with barely any destructive power.

What Matthew was more interested in, however, was Kaecilius's rapidly recovering injuries.

Clearly, after embracing darkness, Kaecilius had gained the protection of darkness as well.

After all, if Dormammu wanted Kaecilius to work for him, he naturally had to offer benefits in return.

Which was good.

It made him more durable.

Matthew was genuinely worried about accidentally crushing Kaecilius to death. That was why he had deliberately held back on that earlier slap.

The outco of a battle between sorcerers was often simple and direct—it depended entirely on magical mastery.

Whoever knew more spells and possessed greater magical power could suppress the other.

The forr allowed one to counter an opponent's spells with appropriate counter-magic, while the latter ensured continuous spellcasting through superior magical reserves.

This stood in complete contrast to the flashy visual effects of magical combat.

Kaecilius knew Matthew's physical abilities were monstrous and impossible to compare with.

But when it ca to magic, he was extrely confident.

Especially with the favor of the great dark lord behind him.

Kneeling on one knee, one hand raised to maintain the Shield of the Seraphim against the raging storm—

He slamd his other hand against the floor.

Countless black-purple sparks burst forth, transforming into a forest of thorn-like spikes that surged toward Matthew. They writhed wildly, every single thorn infused with terrifying corrosive dark power.

This was black magic created by reversing white magic through the power of darkness.

Compared to white magic, the true terror of black magic lay in its destructive and lethal nature.

Black and white seed like opposites—two extres—but in truth, the distance between them was only a single thought away.

Especially for a genius sorcerer like Kaecilius, reversing white magic was child's play.

And that also ant—

Kaecilius was truly fighting with everything he had now.

At the center of the storm, Matthew brought his palms together horizontally before pressing them downward.

Countless bolts of lightning exploded within the hurricane. Storm and thunder intertwined, annihilating everything in their path. More than half of the thorn spikes were instantly destroyed.

But that wasn't the true killing move.

Kaecilius lifted the hand pressed against the floor and pointed it at Matthew.

From within a crimson magical array, several strangely shaped serpents suddenly shot out.

They ignored the Shield of the Seraphim surrounding Kaecilius.

They even ignored the violent storm itself, darting toward Matthew at astonishing speed.

The raging wind couldn't stop them, and even lightning strikes failed to destroy them.

Kaecilius's attack was both concealed and swift.

Unfortunately, it still couldn't escape Matthew's perception.

Even without using Observation Haki, Matthew's reflexes far surpassed those of ordinary humans.

"The Snakes of Valtorr?"

A smile curved at Matthew's lips. Green flas ignited across both his hands, and as he lightly moved them, the erald fire swept toward the serpents.

In an instant, the snakes were set ablaze, releasing piercing screeches.

Their bodies were burned away imdiately, yet countless new serpents rapidly regenerated. But the flas possessed an everlasting nature—no matter how many snakes erged, the fire continued to destroy them endlessly.

In the end, the flas spread along the serpents' bodies toward Kaecilius himself.

"Damn it… the Flas of the Faltine? Did this guy really study magic for only two months?"

Kaecilius's expression changed drastically.

Matthew knew too many spells, and he cast them with effortless ease. Every spell Kaecilius used was countered in turn. The judgnt and thought process he displayed in battle—

He was no different from a veteran sorcerer who had practiced for decades.

Kaecilius was considered a genius.

Then what exactly was Matthew, after only two months of studying magic?

A chill spread through Kaecilius's heart.

For the first ti, he felt powerless.

He hated that feeling, and he knew he couldn't continue like this.

So he abruptly canceled the Snakes of Valtorr spell. His eyes beca vacant, the dark mark on his forehead pulsing faintly as the area around his eyes began blackening as though scorched.

Great Lord of Darkness, your loyal servant requires aid. Please allow to borrow a sliver of your power," Kaecilius murmured silently within his heart.

The next mont, a vast and incomprehensible figure appeared vaguely within his mind.

"GRANTED!!"

BOOM!!

In an instant, the chaotic and distorted space froze completely.

The sound of shattering mirrors exploded throughout the area.

The previously relaxed Matthew imdiately turned serious.

He suddenly raised his head toward the ceiling of the library.

As though he could see through it—beyond the roof and into the endless sea of darkness spreading across the sky.

The ocean of darkness writhed and ford into an incomparably enormous head.

Its gigantic eye shimred with dark, multicolored light, filled with cold indifference.

"Dormammu!!"

Matthew recognized him imdiately.

Kaecilius had actually managed to borrow Dormammu's power directly within Kamar-Taj itself.

Even if it was only a tiny fraction.

Clearly, it could only be accomplished by using Kaecilius's soul and body as a bridge.

And the price of doing so was undoubtedly severe.

That much was obvious from Kaecilius's extrely weakened aura.

Otherwise, he would have used it from the very beginning.

"Ancient One's lackey… insignificant insect… daring to obstruct the advance of darkness… die!"

Dormammu's earth-shaking roar echoed across the sky. The violent sound waves tore open the library ceiling, blasting a massive hole through it.

Not only that—

Dormammu opened his enormous maw.

Boom!!

A terrifying dark-purple energy pillar descended from the sky, tearing through layers of air as it shot straight toward Matthew within the library.

anwhile, Kaecilius's figure vanished completely the mont darkness descended.

Matthew no longer had ti to pay attention to him.

The danger had already arrived.

Reflected in his raised eyes was the descending dark-purple pillar of destruction.

His hands rapidly ford a seal. Then he raised his right arm high while his left hand braced against it, two fingers pointing toward the sky.

Boom!

Blazing energy erupted from his fingertips, transforming into a stream of golden-red light wrapped in fiery sparks.

But instead of firing directly, it began spinning along a nearly bizarre trajectory.

First ca a blazing arc like a flaming whip.

Then a second.

A third.

Layer upon layer of luminous arcs appeared in the air, intertwining into several linked golden rings.

The rings rotated at trendous speed like gears controlled by an invisible hand, compressing the surging energy into a thick, straight pillar of golden light.

The pillar passed through each rotating ring, continuously refined and accelerated, releasing a sharp tearing sound as it shot skyward like a burning star.

The air along its path ignited from the extre heat, leaving behind a massive trail of fla. Countless sparks rained down like a storm, dyeing the entire space crimson red.
