In the dead of night, a sports car tore down the highway like a bolt of lightning.
Neagley sat in the driver's seat, completely ignoring the night scenery flashing past. She couldn't help but complain to Natasha, who was casually twirling a gold-plated Desert Eagle in the passenger seat.
"So, what exactly was he struggling for?"
Neagley genuinely could not understand what that vampire had been thinking. Just monts ago, the guy had looked conflicted and pained, as though he absolutely refused to betray his leader.
But the instant she pointed a gun at him, he spilled everything without hesitation.
The man talked nonstop, practically ready to confess every secret in his life. It felt like if she had let him continue, he would have started listing every woman he had ever slept with too.
"Maybe he thought acting like that would amuse you enough to let him go," Natasha replied without looking up, still fiddling with her newly acquired toy.
"Sigh. I don't find that kind of humor funny at all."
Neagley wore a look of pure disdain. After finishing that complaint, she moved on to targeting Deacon Frost.
"So, what on earth is this guy nad Deacon up to anyway?"
"The Temple of Eternal Night, so ancient ritual, summoning so damn Blood God... and why kidnap Skye and that woman Jessica?"
"According to him, the vampire race suffers from extrely severe bloodline discrimination," Natasha said, shaking her head. "Deacon was a turned vampire, not a pureblood, so the vampire elders look down on him and consider him inferior."
"He sees himself as noble and has a strong desire for power. He wants to overthrow the elders and beco the supre ruler of the vampires himself. Summoning the Blood God is probably just a way to gain power and beco a new vampire god."
"That vampire didn't know the exact process, but it should be more or less like that."
Natasha's analytical ability was no worse than Reacher's. Even though the vampire's information had been incomplete, she could still piece together the bigger picture.
"So power struggles really exist everywhere," Neagley muttered in understanding before frowning again. "Then why take Skye and Jessica?"
"No idea. Maybe they have so other use."
"That idiot girl..." Neagley sighed helplessly. "She clearly hadn't been detected, yet she proactively walked right into their hands to deliver her own head. Sigh, girls..."
"I think you need to drive faster," Natasha said calmly. "We still have so distance to the New Jersey border."
"Yeah~ I was thinking the sa thing."
Boom!
The engine roared violently as Neagley grinned and pressed the accelerator down further. The expensive sports car let out another furious howl as it shot through the night even faster.
To be fair, the car's performance really was impressive.
The distance from outside New York City to the New Jersey border was around fourteen miles in total, and at full speed, they reached it in less than ten minutes.
Of course, this was not sothing an ordinary person could replicate.
A sports car running at full power along the highway would flip instantly if it hit even a small pothole or obstacle.
And the result would almost certainly be death.
Fortunately, neither Neagley nor Natasha cared about things like that. Their attitude was simple—if the car flipped, then so be it. They could just run the rest of the way on foot.
At their level, they wouldn't even be slower than the car anyway.
Still, whether through Neagley's driving skill or pure luck, they reached their destination safely without crashing.
Their destination was an abandoned underground air-defense tunnel near the New Jersey border, far from the city and completely deserted.
After getting out of the car, Neagley and Natasha looked toward the hollow tunnel leading deep underground. They exchanged a glance, and Neagley tilted her head slightly, signaling for them to move in.
"We're not waiting for them?" Natasha asked as she looked back at the pitch-black road behind them.
"If we wait, we might be too late. We'll go first. They'll be here soon enough."
"OK. Go."
The two won smiled at each other, and in the next instant, their figures vanished from sight.
...
anwhile, deep beneath the massive tunnel, hidden from the outside world, an enormous underground space had been excavated.
The gigantic cavern had been artificially carved and reconstructed.
The Temple of Eternal Night—built by Deacon Frost at trendous cost in manpower and resources.
The temple itself was a massive underground stone chamber designed in an ancient Egyptian style. The stone walls were dark gray with faint crimson veins running through them.
The ceiling stretched high overhead, and at the center of the do was a circular depression engraved with the Blood God's totem and golden runes.
The floor was paved with black marble and carved with a massive circular magic circle. The array was divided into twelve sections, each marked with bronze-colored runic symbols.
At the center of the hall stood a towering black stone altar. Above it hung a tallic blood-channeling system connected to pipes that extended into the recessed do overhead.
Surrounding the altar were twelve thick square stone pillars with deep black surfaces carved with linear reliefs depicting ancient vampire imagery. There were no open flas anywhere in the chamber. Instead, hidden light sources cast a dim crimson glow throughout the temple.
The air was cold and heavy, filled with the faint sll of blood and damp stone.
The walls were smooth, with narrow blood grooves carved into them that ran downward into the channels of the magic circle on the floor.
The corners of the hall held almost no decorations. Only near the entrance was there a recessed blood pool, its edges covered in engraved runes.
Inside one of the sealed stone rooms, the vast space contained nothing but a single stone bed. Two won were leaning against each other on the stone bed in the corner.
Both possessed black hair, though their ethnicities differed—one was Asian and the other was Caucasian. Yet, without a doubt, both were highly beautiful and exquisite.
One dressed plainly in a simple T-shirt, jacket, casual pants, and canvas shoes.
The other wore a black leather jacket over a white T-shirt, paired with jeans and sneakers.
Just from their clothes alone, it was obvious neither of them had much money.
Compared to the black-haired Caucasian girl, the Asian girl looked noticeably frightened. She muttered nervously, "I really shouldn't have tracked him... I never expected the NYPD to be connected to them too."
"Now both of us got caught. What are we supposed to do, Jessica?"
"OK, Skye, we're still safe for now, so stop panicking like that."
Jessica rolled her eyes. She was not the gentle or patient type to begin with. If Skye had not looked genuinely scared, she probably would have snapped at her already.
Of course, it also had sothing to do with the fact that she had already spent quite a while cursing that bastard nad Deacon and was getting tired.
Still, the mont she thought about another certain soone, her anger flared up again.
"That damn purple freak," she cursed irritably. "He can actually control my body, and then he handed over to that Deacon guy. If I ever run into him again, I swear I'll beat him flat."
Jessica was a hero. An accident during her youth had granted her incredible strength and physical abilities, even allowing her to fly for short periods.
She could never stand seeing the weak bullied by criminals, so she had taken to the streets under the na Jewel, fighting cri as a vigilante.
Everything had been fine until this girl nad Skye showed up at her door.
Not only did Skye know her true identity as Jewel, she had also uncovered information about a twisted criminal called the Purple Man and hoped Jessica would help capture him.
At first, Jessica had no interest in getting involved.
But after Skye showed her the investigation files—countless innocent won manipulated, abused, violated, or driven to death by the Purple Man—Jessica beca furious.
Without hesitation, she agreed.
The two of them temporarily tead up to investigate and capture the monster.
And the result was exactly this—they had been captured instead.
