Dinsion lords were cunning creatures by nature.
When nobody knew whether a war could be won, and a single defeat ant there would be no second chance, every one of them beca a little more slippery than the last.
Why fight reality itself when you could bully a single universe instead?
Why clash with another dinsion when you could simply harvest souls in peace?
That was the sensible approach. Everyone could get along. No need to start a war, right?
But when a dinsion had no ruler, that was another matter entirely.
At that point, it was basically at delivered to the doorstep.
Drex Valen had no intention of letting that at walk away.
He knew Heaven's side did not realize a dinsion lord had already figured out their master was missing. They still thought they were the ones holding the advantage.
So they decided to send a warning.
After all, it was common knowledge that dinsion lords did not physically enter reality all that often.
No one had expected soone as bizarre as Drex.
This ti, Heaven sent down more than a hundred angels in one go.
Angels did not need possessions or projections the way the creatures of other dinsions did. That was because Earth's dinsion and Heaven's dinsion had already been woven tightly together. The reason Jehovah had been able to act as all-powerful and all-knowing on Earth was because He had nearly folded Earth itself into Heaven's domain.
Of course, a dinsion lord was all-powerful and all-knowing within his own domain too.
And as the ones who benefited from that arrangent, angels did not need the usual tricks of dinsional beings. They descended in their true forms.
They did not even bother descending quietly.
A gate to the kingdom of heaven opened over New York City, and endless white feathers drifted down as more than a hundred angels descended in a display so overwhelming it stunned everyone who saw it.
Countless Arican believers dropped to their knees without even realizing they were doing it.
S.H.I.E.L.D. looked up at the spectacle and imdiately felt the headache coming on. The people who knew what this ant understood at once that holy war had begun.
A holy war between the God of Destruction and Heaven.
At the center of the angelic formation stood one archangel.
Three enormous snow-white wings spread and folded around him in a careful, protective shape. He wore a plain white linen robe, yet sohow it looked more sacred than ceremonial armor.
His features were perfect, but in a way that erased the difference between male and female. The downcast eyes held a cold emptiness that did not belong to any mortal being. He looked less like a person and more like a myth that had stepped out of scripture and into the street.
Soon, the archangel descended toward the ground.
But he did not touch it.
Barefoot, he hovered in the air.
His wings moved gently, holding him aloft, and as he did, a peculiar divine force spread through the atmosphere. Even the distant sounds around the city sharpened.
Humans knew that sound.
Every Sunday, churches rang with it.
A choir singing praise to God.
Only this was different from the ordinary voices of worship. Clearer. More beautiful. More overwhelming. The kind of sound that could make a believer fall to their knees and weep from gratitude alone.
Unfortunately for Heaven, this was Arica. Plenty of people believed in God, but not all of them were the sort to kneel at the first dramatic entrance.
Above them, thunder rolled.
Blinding light cracked through the night.
Countless pillars of brilliance tore across the darkness like spears.
Then the choir rose again, as if a million angels had joined in a single hymn.
A massive column of light finally pierced the sky from end to end.
Drex Valen watched Heaven's entrance with naked envy.
Those birds really did know how to make an entrance.
He was far more practical.
Before the hundred angels and the archangel had even fully adjusted to the scene, several hundred Kryptonians were already standing ready.
Every one of them wore gold Cloth, with golden wings spread behind them.
Drex had clearly decided this was going to be his signature look.
Just like angels, who could be identified instantly as Jehovah's servants, these golden figures would make any dinsion lord recognize whose side they were on.
That ant the angels had no choice but to focus on the intruders whose appearance looked even more premium than their own.
"Heretics," the archangel said, drawing his holy sword and pointing it at the golden figures across from him. "By the na of the Lord, I command you to retreat! Retreat! Retreat!"
The response from Drex's side was a golden arrow fired straight back.
The holy war began at once.
The golden arrow used by the Kryptonians was not just any arrow. Besides the Adamantium and Vibranium reinforcent, it carried Drex's divine power of death.
Even Hela would have had a miserable ti surviving a hit from it.
One of the angels was struck dead on the spot and turned to ash.
Then the golden Kryptonians charged in, wielding swords that could cut through the subatomic layer, thunder hamrs, and divine shields as they tore into the angelic ranks.
Ghost Riders appeared from nowhere on the ground below and joined the feast.
The angels had not expected these heretics to be so brutally effective.
In the blink of an eye, more than half of the hundred angels had already fallen.
Drex, being Drex, had even revived the angelic army that had previously been killed by divine attacks, and this ti they were truly alive.
That made the angels panic.
They quickly called for Heaven itself, because they had discovered sothing horrifying.
The angels they killed were not returning to Heaven for rebirth.
They were simply disappearing.
Gone.
Completely erased.
For a race that had always been willing to die without hesitation, that was enough to make fear take root.
When they had first been created by Jehovah, they had little life experience and little understanding of death. They might not have known fear then.
But after living for so long, the angels had developed minds of their own.
And minds, inconveniently, did not like being erased.
So the sky opened.
A new world descended over New York City.
Endless white clouds and sacred light intertwined above the streets. Countless angels stood in perfect ranks along the cloudline.
The hymn did not stop. It only layered itself higher and higher.
The sea of light spread out like an ocean connecting to the stars.
Heaven had arrived.
A flood of sacred radiance surged forward from the great gate of Heaven.
At the sa ti, countless angels roared and charged, flying out from within the glowing torrent.
These were the middle-ranking angels who served before the throne of God. Their divine power far surpassed that of mortal beings.
By combat strength alone, they were no weaker than many powerful mutants.
And there were three million of them standing before God's throne.
