(Author’s POV)
"Uhhh ... Myra~ .... there is sothing I need to tell you," Fabian spoke tentatively.
"Go ahead," Myra said. Although she already had an inkling of what he was going to say.
"Actually~ .... the thing is~ ...." he fumbled initially, but eventually said it, "The Everests’ siblings, they are going to sojourn at Chairman Larson’s residence. The brothers, as well as~ ...." Myra cut him off mid sentence, "I am already aware of it. That Nora is in Esteria and going to stay at the Larson mansion." Her words ca out calr than expected.
Hearing her say it so casually, Fabian’s brows furrowed together. He was quick to question, "How?"
Myra remained silent. After all, she got this piece of information from Dion, who, by the way, has personally delivered it to her in her room just a few minutes ago. But, of course, she wasn’t going to tell him that.
"Myra, how do you know about it?" he pressed her.
"You see~ .... I~ ..." she was rattling her brain, trying to think of an excuse. Then a bulb lit in her head, "I received a ssage .... a text ssage from Mr. Dion Everests. That’s how I know."
His grip on the quilt tightened, crumbling it, as he queried, "He has got your number?"
"Ahh~ ... yeah~ ... you see, he is my professor for my elective class," Myra muttered.
Fabian linked the bridge and was visibly irritated, ’These Lycan brothers~ .... keep crossing the line. First, they inserted themselves into her life. Now, he is even sending her texts, huhh.’ After a brief pause, he asked, "Are you going to be okay?"
"Of course, I will be. What’s not to be okay about it? You don’t need to worry. Uhh~ .... Fabian~ .... I have early morning classes tomorrow. And it’s already late ....so~ ..." Myra mumbled softly.
"Ohhh~ .... sorry for keeping you awake," Fabian said. "Haa~ .. yes, there is one more thing. Rember to use the perfu I gave. It repels bad energy."
"Okay... I will," Myra said awkwardly. After a pause, she mumbled, Umm~ ... good night and take care, hmmm. If there is anything you need or want to talk about, do give a call."
"I surely will. Good night," Fabian uttered, and then the call ended. Resting his head, he glanced at the dimly lit ceiling and mumbled, "If I weren’t this weak, if I weren’t a human, maybe their presence wouldn’t be required."
He had woken up a couple of hours ago, and as soon as he did, he saw Chris Shadow.
The first thing Fabian did was, expectantly, ask to see his grandfather. But Chris told him he can’t enter his room. He then went on to give him a rundown on the situation and told him that he would be away to get a component for the ’elixir.’
Fabian nodded, but then Chris dropped the bomb, "Young master~ ... actually, there are two things I need to tell you."
"What is it?" Fabian asked in a raspy, throaty tone.
"The thing is~ .... As I will be leaving, I have asked~ .... I have asked the~," Chris spoke haltingly.
"Just speak your mind," Fabian muttered with difficulty.
Steadying his breath, Chris said, "In my absence, I have asked the Everests to guard the mansion as well as the master."
"What? What did you just say? You did what?" Fabian was flabbergasted.
"You know ... young master ... the incident indicates that it was an intentional crash and not accidental. And you are also aware that .... there is a high possibility that the Elders are involved. So~ .... I can’t leave you and the master unprotected. That’s why I asked them to stay here for a few days, until the master’s condition becos more stable," Chris confessed. "I apologize if I may have overstepped my authority, but I did what I thought was right. The Everests~ .... They helped us find the master in ti and even saved you from drowning. Apart from them, I couldn’t think of anyone else whom we can call trustworthy, given the situation."
Fabian remained quiet. Of course, he knew, he was in no position to fight anyone or even safeguard himself, let alone Jacob. He was a re human after all. Weak, pathetically. And he was also aware that, apart from those werewolves, they had no option.
Shutting his eyes, he took long, even breaths. Myra’s face flashed before his very eyes, and an unsettling feeling washed over him.
It was like he had to choose between his grandfather, his only blood related family in the entire world, and Myra, the person he loved the most, the one he wanted to spend his future with. He was caught between a rock and a hard place, stuck in a state of dilemma.
His grandfather’s life would be at risk if he declined, and if he did not, Myra’s would be in jeopardy.
As if determining sothing, he opened his eyes and said, "Alright. What about the other thing?"
Chris, in a serious voice, spoke, "The other news is~ .... The master, he had selected the person who would secure the head’s position in his absence. He nad you as the acting leader and Elder Silvia as your aide."
A hint of surprise flashed across his face. Jacob had been saying that he would be handing over his position to him, but Fabian always thought that his grandfather was saying it. And it was only for the Head of the Larson Group.
Never in his wildest dreams did he think he would be given the position to lead the Vampires. Not. Even. Once.
"How is that possible?" Fabian questioned. "Neither Catherine nor Brian would have taken this lying down."
"They did seem displeased, but his majesty’s decision is final. Even Elder Cardamone supported it," Chris told him. He got the detailed information from Iris.
Fabian nodded, "Understood." He recalled the last ti, which was actually his first ti seeing Vinicio Cardamone. The keyword for that guy was .... unpredictable. ’Why would he back that decision?’ he pondered.
Chris’s next words snapped Fabian back, "Young master~ .... the Everests will be shifting here, tomorrow morning. They still don’t know you are also here or what your original identity is."
"They will, eventually," Fabian mumbled. When he takes over the leader’s seat, they will automatically know.
"Regarding that~ ...." Chris licked his lips, "Master has prepared sothing for that purpose."
