Ning Fan chuckled helplessly and glanced again at Xiao Ba. After the young man turned and walked away, his expression unexpectedly beca somber, mumbling sothing as if lost in thought.
At first, Ning Fan didn’t think much of it and casually joked about it with Zhu Xuetao: “Xiao Ba seems to have sothing on his mind. You should pay attention to this as the head of the security departnt. Being a leader ans knowing how to comfort your subordinates!”

Seeing her flustered state, Ning Fan couldn’t help but smile: “I haven’t been waiting long. Hand the keys. I’ll drive instead—you’ve been working all day, and you must be tired!”

Lan Kexin clasped her hands together and pleaded to Ning Fan.
“Alright, alright. Let’s get going.”

As they reached the door, Ning Fan started fussing over his appearance. Lan Kexin couldn’t help but laugh: “What does it matter? You’re fine just as you are!”
Even though he hadn’t dressed up particularly, his outfit was casual yet presentable. He was full of energy and had an air that set him apart from the ordinary. There was certainly nothing about him that would leave a bad impression.
Moreover, Lan Kexin’s mother wouldn’t really care about that sort of thing—she already had a high opinion of Ning Fan.
“Also, I didn’t bring any gifts. Should we go buy sothing now? Showing up empty-handed feels a little rude!”

When that warm, kind face erged, Lan Kexin eagerly called out.
“Look who’s here!”
Lan Kexin pointed at Ning Fan, who imdiately pulled a cheerful smile onto his face.
“Ning Fan, finally you’ve co again! I’ve missed you so much!”
“Hello, Auntie. I’ve missed you too. I’m so glad I could join Kexin to visit you today!”
“We’re all family here. No need for formalities—co in, co in!”
Lan Kexin’s mother welcod them inside with palpable enthusiasm. Her warmth filled Ning Fan’s heart but also added a touch of pressure. After all, he wasn’t really Lan Kexin’s boyfriend—his role tonight was purely an act.
The thought of deceiving such a kind and genuine woman left Ning Fan feeling slightly guilty, even if it was a harmless lie.
“Auntie, how’s the herbal prescription I gave you last ti? Has your health improved?”
Upon stepping inside, Ning Fan imdiately inquired about Lan Kexin’s mother’s condition. Besides pretending to be Lan Kexin’s boyfriend, he genuinely wanted to check on her health.
