Chapter 938: Chapter 927: When do you plan to get married?

Lan Kexin’s mother looked at Ning Fan with an expression that unmistakably seed like she was sizing up her future son-in-law, or perhaps as she herself claid, she’d already started treating Ning Fan as part of the family.

Faced with this, Ning Fan felt a bit pressured, but gradually, he began to get used to her gaze.

The auntie, who was much healthier than before, now wore a warr and brighter smile on her face. She was also delighted that her daughter, Lan Kexin, had found such an outstanding boyfriend like Ning Fan.

“When are you two planning to get married?”

Out of nowhere, Lan Kexin’s mother popped the question, which startled both Ning Fan and Lan Kexin. Ning Fan, who was drinking water at the ti, nearly choked on it because of this sudden remark.

This abrupt question caught Ning Fan off guard, leaving him feeling both amused and helpless inside.

“Mom, what are you suddenly talking about?!”

Lan Kexin’s reaction was also sowhat agitated. She had absolutely not expected her mother to bring up such a question, especially in front of Ning Fan.

After all, they were only pretending to be a couple. Bringing up marriage like this was incredibly awkward. This kind of conversation was enough to make even her start to overthink.

Lan Kexin pushed aside the unrealistic thoughts swirling in her mind and looked at her mother with frustration: “Mom, stop saying such things already. It’s not the ti yet!”

“Oh, what do you an ‘not the ti’? You’re already old enough, and Ning Fan isn’t exactly young either. Both of you are successful in your careers—it’s the right mont to settle down. I don’t have any extravagant wishes; I just hope to see you marry an excellent man as soon as possible!”

Having raised Lan Kexin and watched her grow into adulthood and establish a successful career, as a mother, she only had one wish — for her daughter to marry a good man and have a happy family.

Lan Kexin’s mother didn’t want her daughter to repeat her own pitfalls of choosing the wrong partner. She thought Ning Fan was quite decent, and since the two were already a couple, it would be best if they beca a family in the future.

“About marriage and such, Mom, please just stop talking about it!”

Lan Kexin’s face gradually turned red with embarrassnt, her gaze awkward, while Ning Fan stood beside her, blinking as if preparing to step in at the right mont.

“Stop being shy. You like Ning Fan, and Ning Fan likes you. What’s wrong with that? Ning Fan, let ask you—do you like my daughter? Are you willing to marry her?”

At this point, Lan Kexin’s mother switched to a commanding tone, showing an unusually authoritative side of herself.

Seeing her mother’s focus had turned to Ning Fan, Lan Kexin beca even more anxious. The redness on her face had spread all the way to the tips of her ears.

Just as Lan Kexin was about to stop her mother from pressing further, Ning Fan unexpectedly reached out and grabbed her hand.

Lan Kexin instinctively turned to look, only to see Ning Fan signaling with his eyes that she should leave this matter to him.

Out of trust in Ning Fan, Lan Kexin fixed her gaze on him, deciding not to interrupt.

“Auntie, you asked if I like Kexin. Of course, I do! If I were able to marry such a great wife, it’d be like a blessing eight lifetis in the making!”

Ning Fan wore a faint smile as he spoke, his gaze toward Lan Kexin filled with gentle warmth.

For a split second, Lan Kexin almost believed they were a real couple—Ning Fan was truly her boyfriend…

If this were a dream, she wished she’d never wake up!

Lan Kexin thought this to herself, but her mind slowly returned to reality.

Her mother, anwhile, was overjoyed by Ning Fan’s words and imdiately followed up: “Well then, when are you planning to get married?”

It seed her mother wouldn’t rest until she heard Ning Fan’s plans for marrying Lan Kexin.

Feeling helpless, Ning Fan let out a wry smile and, after thinking for a mont, replied, “Let’s keep that a secret for now. When the ti cos, I’ll give Kexin a surprise!”

This answer was essentially a promise to Lan Kexin’s mother that he would propose to Lan Kexin. As for the timing, that was a surprise yet to be revealed.

Finally, at this point, Lan Kexin’s mother refrained from asking further questions. Instead, she happily walked into the kitchen and brought out a pot of stewed chicken, calling Ning Fan and her daughter to eat.

Lan Kexin found the al sowhat awkward, as her mother kept sharing stories from her past with Ning Fan at the dining table, leaving her with no chance to interject.

Even when she wanted to speak up, her mother would simply say: “We’re all family now! There’s nothing to hide. You two lovebirds should get to know each other better!”

This remark left Lan Kexin speechless and tongue-tied. What could she possibly say?

At this mont, it wasn’t exactly appropriate to tell her mother that Ning Fan wasn’t actually her boyfriend.

Not to ntion whether Lan Kexin’s mother would believe it or not, revealing the truth now would certainly be a blow to her as a mother.

“Ning Fan, when did you and Kexin et? How long have you been together?”

“We’ve known each other for a long ti. We work at the sa company.”

“So you’re office sweethearts? Does your boss have an issue with it? Have you two been able to keep your relationship discreet?”

“No, no worries. We work in different departnts. Aside from break tis, we hardly get a chance to et up. No one knows, and even if the boss finds out, I think she wouldn’t say much. After all, talented coworkers like Kexin are hard to co by…”

Even though Ning Fan said this, if Xu Ruolan, Lan Kexin’s direct superior, found out, Ning Fan would struggle to explain himself. What would she think of this scenario?

A little mistress outside the office?

Keep in mind, Lan Kexin’s direct superior Xu Ruolan was none other than Ning Fan’s fiancée—the main wife he was supposed to marry.

“Mom, you should eat more of the dishes, too!”

Lan Kexin, blushing, picked up a piece of chicken and placed it in her mother’s bowl.

“I know you’re trying to stop from talking. Look at you—once you’re married, you’ll be like water splashed out the door!”

Lan Kexin’s mother teased, leaving her utterly speechless.

After dinner, Ning Fan and Lan Kexin stayed at her mother’s house for a while before deciding to leave. Her mother didn’t insist that they stay overnight this ti.

“You lovebirds should hurry back. These old bones of mine won’t bother you anymore!”

Her mother’s thoughtfulness caused Lan Kexin’s face to flush red once again, while Ning Fan showed no particular reaction, simply smiling as he bid her farewell.

Walking through the old district streets, Lan Kexin walked beside Ning Fan. A soft breeze brushed past, gently ruffling her jet-black hair. Paired with the dim streetlights, the atmosphere gave her an ethereal beauty.

“Ning Fan, thank you for today…”

“How many tis have you thanked already? I told you—it’s not necessary. Besides, this ti, I’m the one who got lucky. Having a girlfriend like you… I wouldn’t know how much happiness that brings!”
