Chapter 951: Chapter 940: So You’re the One Behind the Scenes!
Wu Rong is the mastermind behind the high-interest loan syndicate, but Ning Fan doesn’t know this yet, because he hasn’t even looked at the USB drive. All the information and evidence inside it have yet to pass before Ning Fan’s eyes.
However, the USB was prepared by Eagle, and Ning Fan trusts Eagle’s reliability. As such, he hasn’t doubted the contents of the USB for a second and handed it directly to Baby Hai at the earliest opportunity, wanting to resolve the matter as soon as possible.
Never in his wildest dreams would Wu Rong have thought that Ning Fan still didn’t know his identity.
“Mr. Ning, are we really going to talk here? So things might not be suitable for your woman to hear.”
Wu Rong ca here to negotiate, but Baby Hai is a cop. Deep down, Wu Rong felt that the matters they had to discuss shouldn’t be sothing Baby Hai was privy to.
Ning Fan didn’t share this sentint, but before he could respond, Baby Hai’s face flushed as she cut in assertively, “I’m not this guy’s woman! Don’t talk nonsense, or I’m going to sue you for slander—do you hear ?!”
Baby Hai was visibly agitated, frustrated at being misunderstood as Ning Fan’s partner. This was a huge misunderstanding. Sure, Ning Fan was quite capable, undeniably handso, and while he had many flaws, he also had many redeeming qualities—he wouldn’t make a bad boyfriend…
Catching herself, Baby Hai quickly shook her head, banishing the unrealistic thoughts from her mind. She had no interest in Ning Fan!
It was all an illusion, all nonsense. Staring at Ning Fan’s face, dangerously close to her, Baby Hai kept silently hypnotizing herself.
“You either say it now, or I leave right now. Make your choice.”
Although Ning Fan wasn’t entirely sure what kind of inner conflict Baby Hai was grappling with, he didn’t dwell on it. His focus remained locked on Wu Rong—he wanted to hear what this man was really here for.
“…Given the circumstances, should I be addressing you as Mr. Ning, or as Master Nine?”
“Master Nine? Who’s that? Are you talking about him?”
Baby Hai chid in with curiosity, finding the title oddly familiar but unable to fully recall its significance for the mont.
Ning Fan raised an eyebrow, choosing not to entertain Baby Hai’s curiosity, and instead silently acknowledged that Wu Rong had indeed co prepared. Very few knew about Ning Fan’s past identity as Master Nine; clearly, Wu Rong had done his howork.
“And what exactly are you here for, then? As for Jianghu’s affairs, I retired from all that a long ti ago. If you’re looking for , you’d be better served seeking out Eagle—he might actually care.”
Ning Fan assud Wu Rong was here asking for his help. Shaking his head, Ning Fan dismissed the idea outright. He’d long distanced himself from Jianghu; Eagle was now in charge.
Master Nine? That was ancient history.
Wu Rong’s face darkened with fury as he retorted, “Mr. Ning, isn’t this a bit much? Sure, we might’ve had so unpleasant dealings in the past, but I’ve already made restitution. Besides, we’re just running a small business—it doesn’t need to end in total annihilation, does it?!”
“A small business?” Ning Fan echoed, perplexed. Based on Wu Rong’s tone, it seed like they’d clashed before. But sothing didn’t add up—Ning Fan couldn’t recall Wu Rong at all. Have they even t?
“Are you still playing gas with , Ning Fan? If you have demands, just put them forward. Zhonghai is still under your authority, after all. Back when we started running high-interest loans here without informing you, that was indeed our mistake. But we’re ready to repay double now!”
Wu Rong gritted his teeth, convinced Ning Fan was fully aware but rely feigning ignorance.
But as much as Wu Rong wanted to confront him openly, he didn’t dare—Zhonghai was undeniably Ning Fan’s territory. If they wanted to continue their operations in Zhonghai, subservience was their only option.
Besides, word had already gotten to Wu Rong that Dragon Eagle Hall’s Eagle was preparing to deal with them!
Hearing Wu Rong’s explanation, Ning Fan finally pieced it together. So these people were loan sharks, huh?
What a coincidence! It almost makes sense why Ning Fan hadn’t figured it out sooner—he hadn’t yet reviewed the USB drive’s contents.
“So it’s you guys!” Ning Fan exclaid in realization, the cold smirk returning to his lips.
Baby Hai, standing off to the side, also began to figure things out. When she looked at Wu Rong and his group, her eyes were burning with hostility.
Wu Rong’s intentions for coming here were now clear: faced with Ning Fan’s pressure, the high-interest loan syndicate had no choice but to seek him out for negotiations, hoping to persuade him.
But could things really be settled so easily?
“Mr. Ning, whatever conditions you have, just say it. Jianghu disputes should abide by Jianghu rules—no need to drag innocents into this. That’s not beneficial for anyone, don’t you agree?”
Wu Rong suppressed his simring anger as he spoke. At this point, he was entirely desperate. Everything hinged on Ning Fan’s one word, which could determine whether they got to stay in Zhonghai.
This negotiation today, in Wu Rong’s view, was built on the belief that there’s nothing in this world that money can’t solve.
Take Ning Fan’s antagonism toward them—as far as Wu Rong was concerned, Ning Fan’s anger stemd from not getting a share of the profits from the loan business. If they could appease Ning Fan, they’d be willing to hand over a cut of their earnings.
“So it’s you guys. I was wondering why you’d co to —now everything makes perfect sense!”
Ning Fan muttered, letting out an ambiguous laugh under his breath.
He glanced at Wu Rong and his associates, then turned to Baby Hai, who was staring at him with alert, warning eyes as if silently reminding him not to be tempted. Ning Fan, in that mont, made up his mind.
“Jianghu rules? Bullshit Jianghu rules! The so-called Jianghu rules you talk about—are they the ones where you use people’s families as leverage?”
Images of the Xiao Ba incident flashed through Ning Fan’s mind—the loan sharks had used soone’s loved ones as bargaining chips.
And that wasn’t even the tip of the iceberg. Countless other unscrupulous acts still hidden from view cented Ning Fan’s distaste for Wu Rong’s group.
“Mr. Ning, is there any need to pity others? We’re not a charity. If they can’t pay the money back, are we not allowed to employ so special asures?”
Wu Rong’s expression remained unchanged, defining Jianghu rules effectively as whatever benefitted him and his syndicate.
“Hahaha! That’s a good one! If that’s how you operate, why bother coming to at all?”
Ning Fan chuckled coldly at the audacity of this shaless man. It’s astonishing how many heartless bastards still roam the earth—case in point, Wu Rong right in front of him.
From these brief exchanges, Ning Fan had already pieced together Wu Rong’s ga plan and character.
“We can keep negotiating until we reach a deal!”
