The battlefield's fate often changes in an instant.
Just when hope seed within reach, a few seconds had passed, and the squad was completely at a disadvantage.
Aboard the Black Hawk helicopter, Lieutenant Louis shoved the machine gunner aside, grabbed the M240 machine gun, and sprayed the jungle below with bullets.
He wished nothing more than to riddle Song Heping and his n with holes.
Bullets poured down like raindrops.
Fortunately, the jungle canopy obscured the view, and the helicopter pilot dared not hover.
After all, they had suffered a loss before.
Team B's helicopter had been showing off with a hover when it was shot down with a single, devastating blow.
He kept flying in circles.
It was this behavior that prevented Lieutenant Louis from being able to spray gunfire more effectively. Attacking from the air to the ground was not a simple feat, especially in the jungle where trees covered the view and trunks blocked bullets.
Even so, it still left Song Heping and his n in a sorry state, hiding in the jungle.
"Get out of here! Get out of here!"
He kept shouting to the others.
After all, staying put was a foolish thing to do.
They could only quickly change hiding spots, using the tree canopy as cover to hide deeper in the jungle, making it impossible for the enemy to locate them.
Staying still was nothing more than asking to be shot.
The team imdiately scattered to escape.
As long as they could leave the area and avoid the helicopter's deadly spray, nothing else mattered.
Song Heping eventually found a huge tree and imdiately hid beneath its twisted, interlocked roots.
This was the best hiding place.
Grey Wolf was the one who had followed him into this spot.
Where the others had run off to was anyone's guess.
"Everyone report your position and status."
"I'm fine, hiding in a ditch."
"I'm also fine, behind a tree, about a hundred ters from where we were attacked..."
After everyone had reported in one by one, and they were all okay, Song Heping could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
It was good that White Bear, a forr Russian paratrooper, was used to the sound of MI-171 helicopters and had sent out a tily warning to everyone.
If they had followed the cook to the river bank to wait for the plane just now, they would probably be dead by now.
Song Heping suddenly rembered sothing important.
Dominic!
He hastily took out his phone and began dialing Dominic's number.
But it didn't go through.
That's right!
It didn't go through!
He glanced at the screen.
"Damn it, no signal!"
The trees here were too dense; even satellite signals couldn't penetrate the canopy.
But he had to notify Dominic and inform him of the situation.
If Dominic were to fly over recklessly and the enemy discovered him, they would definitely open fire. Dominic was piloting a civil-use helicopter without weapons; it was nothing but a target.
"Grey Wolf, you stay here, I have to go to a place where there's a signal," Song Heping said as he crawled out from under the tree roots.
His heartbeat was accelerating.
Because this was a risky move.
A place with good signal ant the canopy wasn't as dense, allowing the signal to co through.
But in places where the canopy was thin, it was much easier for the helicopter above to spot him.
It was a tough decision.
But if Dominic was shot down by accident, then the whole team would be finished.
For the lives of the entire team, Song Heping decided to take the risk.
"I'll accompany you, boss; an extra person ans extra cover," Grey Wolf said as he too crawled out.
Song Heping looked at Grey Wolf, his heart ward, and he nodded vigorously, "Good brother."
Though they were all rcenaries, after more than a year of sharing life and death together, they had long beco brothers in arms. That was beyond doubt; everything was said in those words "good brother."
The two n crouched and leapt through the jungle. At each spot, Song Heping would find a place to hide and check the screen for a signal.
"Nothing..."
"Nothing..."
"Still nothing..."
Finally, Song Heping grew irritated.
"Grey Wolf, I've decided to return to the location we were attacked earlier, near the river," he declared.
Song Heping rembered that he managed to call Dominic from that spot earlier, indicating there was a signal.
"That place is dangerous; the helicopter might be watching..."
Grey Wolf instinctively looked up.
The sound of the Black Hawk's rotors could still be heard in the sky.
Judging from the sound, the Colombian governnt army's helicopter was still circling, keeping a close watch on the area.
Perhaps they knew that if Song Heping and his n were here, they were likely trying to cross the river from this point.
After all, no one was a fool.
The riverbank at the edge of the jungle was the best crossing point. If they had no luck with the people hiding in the jungle, then they would just keep watch on the river.
"I can't worry about that now," Song Heping glanced at his watch.
There were two minutes left until the half-hour mark they had arranged.
If Dominic ca over at this ti, it would be real trouble; he had to warn him.
If Dominic could distract the Colombian governnt army's Black Hawk a bit, allowing White Bear and Disaster Star, the two gunners, to co with their M240 machine guns and join the several rifles here for a concentrated fire, there was a chance they could damage the enemy helicopter.
This tactic wasn't sheer fantasy nor was it wishful thinking. Song Heping had trained in the military to use ground machine guns for concentrated fire on low-flying helicopters.
Theoretically, at an altitude of 400 ters, it was possible to achieve this.
"White Bear, Disaster Star, bring the machine guns to the spot where we were attacked, be careful on the way, don't expose your tracks, there's a helicopter overhead."
He didn't say why.
But White Bear and Disaster Star imdiately responded affirmatively, saying they would co right over.
At present, the core mbers of the Defense Company never questioned Song Heping's orders, which made him command with ease.
Soon, Song Heping had arrived near the location from where he had previously made the call.
He checked the signal.
It was faint and intermittent.
He tried dialing.
No connection.
No signal.
"Damn it!"
The signal in the jungle was sotis really tricky.
Just a little distance off, and it just doesn't work.
Just what kind of luck had he had earlier, to actually stand in the best signal spot around here...
After weighing his options, Song Heping gritted his teeth and crouched, skulking toward the place where he had managed to make the call before.
As he entered the earlier position, sure enough, the signal returned.
Song Heping felt even more like cursing. He grabbed his phone and began dialing.
"I'm almost there, don't rush !"
Dominic thought Song Heping was urging him.
"Be careful, the governnt army helicopter is right above the riverbank..."
Before he could finish, gunfire resounded from the sky again.
Ratatatat—
Song Heping, without ti to think, reflexively rolled to the right, tumbling behind a tree of moderate size.
In the sky, Lieutenant Louis was indescribably excited, cursing, "Run! I want you to run! You damned fool, I want your life!"
He kept maneuvering the M240 machine gun, aiming and firing at Song Heping's location.
Having caught the opportunity once again, Louis was seeing red. He didn't want the helicopter to keep circling, causing him to lose his aim and his target, so he shouted, "Hover! Hover! I'm going to kill him! Fly 30 degrees to the left, then hover!"
He had just seen Song Heping duck behind a tree. If the helicopter turned 30 degrees, he would have a clear view of the side of the tree and Song Heping. By maintaining continuous fire, the target wouldn't even get a chance to escape.
I can certainly kill him!
Lieutenant Louis kept telling himself as if in a trance.
The helicopter pilot had no choice but to adjust the craft, beginning to slowly turn left.
"Lower! Lower!"
Suddenly, a clinking sound ca from underneath the helicopter.
The pilot imdiately pulled up.
"Don't be afraid! Steady! That's a rifle! It can't penetrate our aircraft!"
The pilots were already sweating profusely. The chief pilot looked back at the frenzied Louis and yelled, "I can't go any lower..."
"Damn it!"
Louis cursed as he helplessly searched for an angle.
As the helicopter slowly adjusted its angle, finally, he seed to have spotted Song Heping.
"Hahaha! I see you, you bastard!"
Louis continued to curse while maintaining a rapid burst of fire, turning the gun toward Song Heping behind the tree.
On the ground, Grey Wolf shouted, "The helicopter's turning this way, boss, run!"
Song Heping leapt up and, like a wolf, darted into the depths of the jungle during the pauses between Louis's bursts.
Louis was dumbfounded.
He simply couldn't believe his eyes.
The idea of continuous fire was to instill a fear so the other would not dare to flee, much like a cat toying with a mouse, to completely crush the enemy's will to resist.
But unexpectedly, in just that brief mont, Song Heping had vanished without a trace.
The tree canopy obscured his vision again.
He had lost sight of Song Heping.
But Louis quickly found a new target for his fury.
Grey Wolf!
He saw Grey Wolf, who was shooting at him from not too far away.
He turned the muzzle and sprayed a round of gunfire at Grey Wolf, pinning him behind a tree, afraid to show his head.
"Get a new ammo box ready, I'm going to kill him!"
Louis was blinded by rage.
All of his anger was now directed at Grey Wolf.
The bullets fell like raindrops on the tree trunk, making Grey Wolf feel as if even the tree was trembling.
He was worried whether a warhead might suddenly penetrate the tree and pierce his body in the next second...
But now, Louis didn't stop with the continuous fire, not even allowing for a pause...
"You're dead at, bastard!"
Louis seed to gauge Grey Wolf's predicant, growing more and more unhinged.
Just as he was going mad, exclamations from the pilots ca from the cockpit's direction.
"There's a plane heading straight for us!"
"Climb! Climb! Dodge it!"
"What's that guy trying to do—"
Louis hadn't figured out what was happening when the helicopter seed to move again as if trying to escape.
Only Dominic in the cockpit of the distant MI-171 was waving at the Black Hawk Helicopter, which couldn't see him, like a lunatic greeting an old friend he hadn't seen in years, laughing and shouting, "surprise!"
The enormous MI-171, under his control, was as agile as a Falcon hunting prey, having successfully swept over the top of the Black Hawk Helicopter just as it was attempting to flee.
And as it swept over the top of the Black Hawk Helicopter, because the Black Hawk was in the midst of an ascent, its propellers directly clipped the wheels under the belly of the MI-171...
This maneuver had Grey Wolf on the ground gaping in disbelief.
He saw Dominic's helicopter brush harshly over the top of the Black Hawk like a Falcon attacking its prey, then fly away.
Then the Black Hawk Helicopter seed to be in serious trouble; fragnts flew around the propellers, and it started wobbling in the air like a drunken man, staggering through so drunken kung fu...
"Suka..."
Grey Wolf's eyes nearly popped out into the bushes.
He hadn't expected anyone to be crazier than their Da Maozi pilots.
"Is this guy French?"
