Now reading: Chapter 466 - 412: Pursuers from Mercenaries, I Will Be King, a Action novel by Yan Qi Guan.

Suddenly, thunder rumbled in the sky.

Raindrops began to fall through the sultry air.

In the darkness, Song Heping and the hunter were weaving through the jungle.

"Boss, why aren't we heading directly north?"

"We can't! We have to make it back on our own!"

Actually, Song Heping still had his own agenda up to now.

Asking Duke of Thunder for help to catch Grey Wolf was a last resort.

But he also knew that if he ran north and the pursuing forces caught up, clashing with Duke of Thunder's n—who would surely win—it would still bring them trouble.

Duke of Thunder took a huge risk tonight to rescue Grey Wolf, and although Song Heping cursed and ranted on the phone, he was aware.

If anything went wrong, Duke of Thunder's career was probably finished.

Now that Grey Wolf and his team were out of danger, there was no need to trouble Duke of Thunder further.

He contacted Duke of Thunder, asking him to evacuate imdiately after picking up Grey Wolf and not to wait for him.

Duke of Thunder was silent on the other end of the phone for a few seconds.

Song Heping started to mock his instructor for being overly cautious.

Finally, Duke of Thunder said three words—"Be careful."

Then he hung up the phone.

Between n...

Between soldiers...

It seems they never need to say much.

A few words outweigh a myriad of expressions.

Why say so much?

He knew that Harold's reinforcents had arrived by now, but what he didn't know was that at this very mont, as they were retreating to the northeast, a Vanguard unit seven to eight tis their number had already set out, hot on their heels.

These people were not only trained under the guidance of the Seal Team, but they were also the elite picked from local mountain hunters and youths.

Their pace was no slower than that of Song Heping and his companion, even faster; they were quite familiar with the terrain, not even needing to check the map.

Luckily, Song Heping and the hunter hadn't encountered much trouble, so they wouldn't be caught up with too soon.

At the mont, they were on a path rarely trodden, but not too difficult to navigate.

This was thanks to the smugglers and ard mbers of drug syndicates, who had actually created these trails.

Otherwise, in the unfamiliar jungle during a rainy night, covering a kiloter in an hour would be a reason to be grateful.

These paths were dangerous too, with traps often seen, and sotis even skeletons already bleached white.

All of these served as reminders to Song Heping and the hunter of the lawless nature of this no-man's-land; if they didn't want their corpses lying there, soaked and rotting in the runoff, they'd better stay sharp!

After running ten kiloters, it was now two in the morning.

Song Heping found a spot, donned his raincoat, crawled inside, turned on his flashlight and GPS, and checked the map to confirm their bearings.

Not too bad, they were only sixty kiloters from China's border.

Once they entered China's border and made contact with Duke of Thunder, both the hunter and himself would be safe.

Song Heping had a habit.

Whenever he needed to check the map and verify his position at night, he would find a place that was quiet and hidden enough.

So this ti, he left the path and crawled into the nearby woods with the hunter.

He never imagined this good habit would save his life.

Just as he finished looking at the map and confird his position, ready to leave the shelter of the raincoat to return to the path, the hunter, concealed behind a tree ahead, suddenly gestured a "cautious enemy situation" tactical hand signal toward him.

Song Heping imdiately hid behind a large tree.

Down the path they had been traveling just before, several dark figures appeared, running quickly in this direction.

Song Heping stood quietly behind the tree, his hand already gripping the handle of his M4A1.

If the enemy opened fire first, then it would be best to strike first and strike hard.

If they didn't notice him, he could hold off a bit longer.

After all, going head-to-head would expose his tracks.

Right now, he was retreating, not picking a fight to the death.

No one knew how many more people were tailing behind these guys.

Several black shadows quickly ran past.

They didn't seem to notice Song Heping and his companion.

After they left, Song Heping erged from behind a tree and approached Hunter.

"All ard, looks like they're coming for us?"

Hunter said, "Bunny hats, Arican camo, Arican firearms, why do I feel sothing's off?"

Song Heping said, "They don't look like Aricans in build."

Hunter nodded, "Yeah, they're Civilian Military soldiers, but they don't quite seem like..."

While speaking, they suddenly heard rustling footsteps coming from the direction of the path.

The two of them hid behind trees once again.

Soon, three black shadows returned to the path near them.

This ti they stopped, bent over on the path as if they were searching for sothing.

Song Heping peeked from behind a tree.

What exactly were these guys doing?

Then he heard them having a conversation.

But he couldn't make out what they were saying.

They were speaking Myanmar, which he didn't understand at all.

But from the tone of their voices, it seed like they were arguing, or complaining to each other as if they had lost sothing.

At last, one of them suddenly straightened up and shot a direct gaze toward the direction where Song Heping and his companion were hiding.

Song Heping imdiately recoiled behind the tree, thinking, damn, did they spot ?

However, in the end, no one ca to check behind the bushes by the path, and they continued to argue in the sa spot.

After a while, more people appeared on the path.

Song Heping estimated roughly, at least a dozen or twenty people.

All dressed alike.

So many people...

And they got this close to them!

He hadn't even noticed them before!

How did they move so quickly!

If it weren't for leaving the main track to check the map behind those trees, they'd have caught up to him without making a sound!

Thinking of this, he broke out in a cold sweat.

Fortunately, the group of twenty or so didn't stay long, and after so debate, they continued running along the path and quickly disappeared from sight.

After they were gone, Song Heping and his companion stepped out from behind the trees.

Hunter said, "They're tracking our footsteps."

As he spoke, he suddenly squatted down, picked up a branch, and gently swept away so leaves to reveal a shallow boot print.

He scrutinized the tread pattern of the boot print, furrowed his brow, and waved Song Heping over.

Song Heping crouched and moved slowly over, spotting the footprint at first glance and frowning, "Looks like we're in trouble."

Hunter said, "You see it too?"

Song Heping said, "That's the pattern of Arican jungle boots."

Hunter said, "Considering the situation just now, I'm guessing these are Cobra Squad's n."

"Cobra?"

Song Heping wasn't familiar with this force.

Hunter said, "The top special forces squad of the KIK faction, rumored to frequently cross the border on strikes and recon missions, they also ambush those other white groups' ard personnel who don't cooperate with them, notorious for their ruthless actions. If we hadn't been lucky just now, we'd probably be in deep trouble."

Then he looked at the boot print again, chuckled, and said, "They're not that tough after all, leaving such obvious traces!"

Song Heping thought for a bit and said, "Since they're that tough, let them lose a few lives, teach them a lesson. We're here now, might as well make it count."

Hunter asked, "If they're a full squad at the company level, do you really plan on taking on a whole company? These aren't like those trash soldiers we faced before."

Song Heping pointed forward and said, "Take down their Vanguard squad."
