Now reading: Chapter 69: Departure to Hassan Oilfield Area from Mercenaries, I Will Be King, a Action novel by Yan Qi Guan.

The journey from Baghdad to the northern oil field area was nearly 400 kiloters.

Today, besides the "Musician" and "Mad Dog" rcenary Corps heading there, there were over 500 employees of the Wood Company.

This batch was the first group of employees that Wood Company sent to take over and resu production at the oil fields, including 100 engineers dispatched to Illiguo by Wood Company, and 400 local employees.

During the assembly, Song Heping saw "Mad Dog" Lars.

The latter rolled his eyes at Song Heping, a look of contempt on his face.

Song Heping ignored him.

For a successful person facing a failure, tolerance is the best form of disdain.

The reason "Mad Dog" Lars was full of rage wasn't because of the minor skirmish that had occurred in the Black Water Company building, but because of Wood Company's orders.

Initially, Wood Company had given the security orders for both major oil fields to Lars's rcenary corps.

In Wood's view, a small rcenary group like "Musician" didn't have the capacity to handle such a significant security task. They originally planned to give them a small oil field near the Misan Oil Field Area near Baghdad to placate Nancy's sweetheart, just to save face for Nancy.

Unexpectedly, a clever move by Hunter at the banquet made Nancy's wife change her mind, suggesting Wood reconsider and offer "Musician" a better contract.

Who is Nancy?

Without her, Wood deeply understood that he would not be able to secure any benefits from the major reconstruction project in Illiguo.

To appease Nancy, he changed his decision and gave the security task of the Hassan Oil Field to the "Musician" rcenary Corps.

Of course, Mr. Wood didn't beco an energy magnate by being naive.

Nobody would joke around with the security of a major oil field, a location that was literally spewing money every day.

Just take Hassan Oil Field's daily production of 500,000 barrels, with the current crude oil price between 28 to 30 US dollars per barrel.

Under the premise of calculating gross profit without deducting costs, just this field alone could bring in 15 million US dollars in gross profit every day, along with the rich associated natural gas, which could also earn Wood Company over 5 million US dollars in gross profits daily.

It was practically like having a mint!

Therefore, the oil field absolutely could not have any mishaps.

Wood handing over the Hassan Oil Field's security to the "Musician" rcenary Corps did not imply he recognized Song Heping's capabilities.

He even believed that Song Heping's group simply could not handle such an important task.

Wood had his own plans.

He figured that if Hassan Oil Field was attacked, the "Musician" rcenary Corps would certainly not withstand the assault and would face a terrible defeat, and the oil field facilities would be damaged.

Once the facilities were damaged, he could then proceed according to the contract's breach clauses, letting Song Heping's group pack up and leaving, and then renegotiate a contract with Lars's Black Water Company.

In this way, he could save Nancy's face, not alienate his political backing, and also not leave his oil fields in the hands of an unprofessional group of irregulars.

You should know, the security fees for the two oil fields together amounted to a very substantial inco of 1.8 million US dollars per month.

After deducting equipnt wear, personnel casualty compensation, salaries, and commissions, he could still earn around half of it.

Unexpectedly, halfway through the deal, Hunter's group of irregulars had snatched away that half.

How could he tolerate that?!

Unable to hold back, Lars felt unbearably stifled without lashing out a few words.

"Hunter! Are you planning to lead these decrepit weaklings to their deaths at the Hassan Oil Field?!"

In the end, Lars couldn't hold back and launched a taunt at Hunter.

"Look, who is that?!"

"Disaster Star!"

"The infamous Umarov!"

"Hahahaha!"

"The chef really seems fearless, huh!"

Lars's n all burst into wild laughter.

Most of these "Mad Dog" rcenary Corps rcenaries were from elites units of Great Britain's retired military, with many being officers and most sergeants, including so key mbers who were retired from SAS.

Everyone knew Umarov.

So, they all knew about the infamous "Umarov Curse"—whoever hired the Disaster Star Umarov was dood to die.

The chef couldn't refute it, since it was true.

So, he pointed at Song Heping, smilingly said, "Now Song is our boss."

The implication was, the curse wouldn't reach !

Lars's contempt grew stronger, and he glanced at Song Heping, "Kid, the chef is harming you, do you know about Umarov's curse? No one who hires him lives past a month!"

Song Heping actually found people like Lars annoying.

In his view, those who lacked capability were all talk; those with real strength spoke through their actions.

Therefore, he didn't bother speaking.

Instead, "Hunter" Guy couldn't help but retort, "Lars, have you forgotten who ate shit last ti? Who pulled you out of the shit pit?"

With Guy saying that, Lars's face changed and he imdiately shut up.

Song Heping looked at Guy, sensing there was a story there.

At that mont, the representative from Wood Company, in charge of the mission entering the oil field, appeared.

"Who are the security heads for the two oil fields?"

Lars responded, "I am the security head for Cook Oil Field Area."

The chef nudged Song Heping forward.

Song Heping then rembered that he was now the head of the "Musician" rcenary Corps.

"I am the security head for Hassan Oil Field Area."

"Everyone co here for a mont, let's synchronize and then depart imdiately."

The three of them gathered around the hood of a car.

The executive from Wood Company was nad Turner, a big-nosed blonde with blue eyes from Arica.

"You all know the specifics already. We've reviewed the security proposals you provided. Now let's discuss so last-minute adjustnts. This ti, we're stationing 10 engineers and 40 workers at Hassan Oil Field Area, and 350 personnel at Cook Oil Field Area. Understood?"

This caught Song Heping off guard.

It was initially agreed as 200 people, how did it suddenly change to 50 people?

Lars also objected, "Why has our field area increased by 150 people?"

Turner said, "Does it really make a difference whether it's 50 or 350 people? Does the extra 150 people an the area of your oil field increases?"

Lars was at a loss for words.

Thinking, that seems about right...

The security task in the oil field area depends on the complexes, facilities, and the area.

It doesn't really relate to how many people there are.

As for Song Heping, with his ticulous mind, he vaguely guessed the intention behind it, but of course, he had no objections. Though the number of people wouldn't decrease the difficulty of security, having fewer people wasn't necessarily a bad thing either.

"I agree."

"OK!" Turner gestured with a wave of his hand, "If you agree, let's depart. According to the plan, the 'Musician' convoy will lead, and the 'Mad Dog' convoy will follow. Let's move! We need to reach the oil field area before nightfall; it's not safe at night."
