Calling for mortar fire like this, Gao Yang was just shouting in vain. If he could call in the artillery, he wouldn’t be injured.

He reached back to press on the wound in his left leg. It hurt a bit, but the bleeding wasn’t much. The shrapnel seed to have grazed past rather than going through, and Gao Yang felt there was no need even to stop the bleeding.

Just as he pressed on the wound, another shell fell. Gao Yang wasn’t sure whether to get off the rooftop and hide inside, or to hold his ground on the rooftop.

Thinking it over, Gao Yang figured if he was going to die, he might as well die on the rooftop. Having said he wouldn’t retreat, he really wouldn’t retreat. Hiding back inside might avoid the mortar, but with the enemy spreading out and encircling, it still ends in total annihilation, with no big difference.

The next mortar hit to Gao Yang’s right, about ten ters away. He wasn’t hurt by the mortar fragnts, but the continuous shelling was truly terrifying.

After waiting a mont, several more rifle grenades fell. This ti, Gao Yang understood the enemy had automatic grenade launchers, but more were rifle-mounted grenade launchers.

At this mont, Gao Yang spotted a trail of headlights, so he quickly called out, but received no response again.

Gao Yang felt a bit desperate this ti.

The convoy was even larger, with more people. When he saw it stop, countless dots of light spreading out through the night vision device and advancing toward him, Gao Yang felt even more desperate.

Yet with so many more enemies, it granted Gao Yang a mont to breathe. The enemy stopped firing mortars and rifle grenades; the battlefield beca surprisingly calm.

Gao Yang had many targets to shoot at. Although the distance was slightly far, hitting them wasn’t a problem.

The enemies were spreading out; their intention was clear — encircle first, then slowly push forward. Capture alive if possible, or preserve so intact corpses.

If the room weren’t full of immobile wounded, Gao Yang would have already fled.

With a sigh, Gao Yang started shooting, emptying a magazine in one breath. He replaced it with a new one, observed the enemy’s movents again, and saw they hadn’t stopped advancing, just doing so more cautiously.

Gao Yang started shooting again, but this ti it was much harder. The enemy was very careful, and although Gao Yang had the height advantage, there were many trees around and the terrain was not very smooth. The enemy had many concealing positions to utilize.

Yet, the so-called difficulty just slowed his shooting speed. Gao Yang could still hit every shot.

Being surrounded by the enemy seed inevitable. Just then, over the radio, soone shouted: "Calling Peter, this is Nulantova, copy!"

Gao Yang was unusually delighted, so he imdiately shouted urgently: "Peter here! Where are you?"

"Three kiloters from your location. We’ve controlled our lights, will reach in two minutes."

Gao Yang quickly responded: "Attention, I’m half-surrounded by the enemy. Many enemies from the east and north, and so in the south, are about to enclose completely. Choose your entry point as you see fit, over!"

"Understood, we’re coming straight through. We have a doctor and plasma!"

Gao Yang excitedly said: "Great, hurry up and get here. Can you break through the enemy lines? If there’s a chance, prioritize neutralizing the enemy’s mortars. I’ll guide you to their position. Do you have any heavy weapons?"

"We only have guns and grenades, and a few rocket launchers, no artillery!"

Gao Yang ducked his head as the enemy started firing at him. The distance was a bit far, with the machine guns firing first.

Although he believed Ukraine didn’t have too advanced night vision devices and that he was safe at six hundred ters, to avoid getting hit by enemy snipers, he started running back and forth on the rooftop while urgently asking: "How many of you are there?"

"Eighteen!"

"Too few, why only so few."

Nulantova didn’t reply, so Gao Yang also stopped shouting, then saw suddenly several vehicles turn on their headlights.

Nulantova and his n drove straight at the stopped enemy, seemingly planning to catch them off guard while they couldn’t distinguish friend from foe.

The enemy appeared to have their ans of identification, as Nulantova’s convoy soon faced machine gun fire shortly after setting off, and they were forced to stop about one thousand ters from the enemy before advancing on foot to attack.

With reinforcents arriving, Gao Yang’s pressure was greatly reduced. Nulantova’s n advanced quickly, reaching five hundred ters from the enemy in just two minutes, close enough to inflict effective damage.

Sure enough, as the reinforcents neared, the enemy imdiately slowed their encirclent. Gao Yang had just breathed a sigh of relief when he heard a very frustrated Nulantova saying: "Boss, the mortars have been dealt with, but the front line is hard to break. Should we force our way through to join you, or apply pressure on the enemy here? Also, our military doctor is dead, if we co over we can bring you so plasma, well, four packs left, don’t know the blood type."

Gao Yang said speechlessly, "How did the military doctor die? How could he just die?"

"During the charge, we had one casualty, the military doctor. He was hit at close range by a rifle grenade, causing most of the blood packs he was carrying to burst from shrapnel."

Gao Yang sighed and said, "Four packs of plasma, forget it. You stay on the periter and keep pressuring the enemy. Also, can you identify the enemy?"

"Can’t confirm, but the enemy’s combat capabilities are strong. If nothing unexpected, they should be special forces on 24-hour standby. Kiev has been unstable lately, and many are on 24-hour shifts, so they arrived ahead of us."

Gao Yang took a few steps, fired the machine gun, and saw Nulantova’s position in continuous firefights, quite intense. He paused moving, wanting to observe closely, and after identifying several targets, he took a few steps, then stopped, raised his gun, and fired eight bullets quickly.

If a couple of exposed enemies are killed, the rest will inevitably hide. So Gao Yang didn’t open fire right away, waiting instead to confirm the enemies’ positions and then quickly shooting at all exposed targets at once. Of course, only he could shoot like that.

After applying more pressure on the enemy’s defenses for Nulantova, Gao Yang intended to change his position but heard a loud buzzing sound from above. The helicopters finally arrived, though Gao Yang felt they were more likely the enemy’s. (To be continued.
