Jerry is a cook, and Gao Yang let him join Satan because of this, but for Jerry, whether he joined Satan or any other rcenary Group, it was rely to seek excitent.

But war is not just blood and fire that brings passion, nor is it just the camaraderie of comrades who have experienced life and death together. First and foremost, war brings death, and thus war inevitably ans the pain of parting and death.

So people idealize and romanticize war. They know that war will kill people, but they don’t think they will be the one to die. Perhaps so have thought about their own death, but they think they will die heroically, magnificently, romantically. However, they do not know that death is seldom associated with such favorable words.

Jerry wanted to fight based on his imagined war, and now Gao Yang shattered his fantasy, letting Jerry directly see the consequences of war.

Faced with Gao Yang’s question, Jerry hesitated for a mont before quietly saying, "I never have the habit of giving up halfway on things I do."

Gao Yang said nothing more. Jerry appeared calm, but Cui Bo suddenly felt a bit annoyed, and just then, another vehicle drove over, leading him to shout, "Another vehicle is coming, I’ll go check it out!"

Cui Bo approached, but it wasn’t a vehicle. It was a tractor, towing a long carriage as it chugged over.

Cui Bo wanted to continue inquiring about Lilia’s whereabouts at the place where the wounded were received, but when he got there, he saw that the tractor didn’t stop and instead headed towards the morgue. But when the tractor drove past those waiting for the wounded, the driver shouted, "Get so won over here! Quickly, co help with these children!"

Cui Bo recognized the driver; he lived nearby and usually helped Doleisherlian with cooking and such. He even recognized the flatbed trailer behind the tractor; Lilia was sitting on it the first ti he saw her.

Many residents nearby helped the field hospital, both n, and won, willing to contribute to assisting the wounded. But no one wanted to handle bodies, as the wounded still held hope, whereas the bodies of the fallen were only left with despair.

The elderly man driving the tractor looked fierce, and after waiting for a mont as those carrying stretchers exchanged glances, two middle-aged won eventually followed.

Cui Bo started running when he heard the driver’s request for two won. He had a bad feeling since only the bodies of female soldiers required won to handle them specifically; otherwise, there wouldn’t be such a request.

The tractor moved slowly. By the ti Cui Bo reached the morgue, the tractor had just stopped.

Before getting near the tractor, Cui Bo nervously shouted to the driver, "Are there people from Doleisherlian?"

The driver glanced back at the flatbed trailer and shouted, "All of them."

Cui Bo didn’t dare to look at the bodies on the flatbed. He took a few steps forward and tremulously asked again, "Are there people from the recruit platoon? Are there... females?"

The old man exhaled deeply and pointed to the flatbed trailer behind him, but said nothing.

Cui Bo’s heart raced. He approached the flatbed trailer, which had particularly low sides, making it easy to see everything. However, all the bodies on the flatbed were covered with plastic sheets.

After taking several deep breaths, Cui Bo slowly lifted a corner of the plastic sheet and saw the body of a girl at first glance.

Cui Bo imdiately lowered the plastic sheet, covering his mouth with both hands, taking deep breaths. It wasn’t Lilia, but the girl was from the recruit platoon of Doleisherlian. Cui Bo knew her, had spoken many words to her, and even taught her how to shoot.

The old man jumped down from the tractor’s cab, gave Cui Bo a complicated look, lifted the plastic sheet beside Cui Bo, and then directly pulled the plastic sheet off from the flatbed, beginning to roll it up.

Cui Bo looked at the bodies on the flatbed, now without cover.

The bodies needed to be identified; so were intact and clean, but most were covered in bloodstains, especially as many bodies were crowded together, requiring careful discernnt.

But Cui Bo spotted the ballistic glasses imdiately, yellow in color, which once belonged to Gao Yang. He had asked for them from Gao Yang to give to Lilia.

Actually, the body was right next to Cui Bo. Previously, he just needed to lift the plastic sheet a bit more to see it.

Cui Bo quietly stood there, pulling tightly at the skin on his neck with both hands because he felt he couldn’t breathe.

A body, with hair matted into a disgusting color after being wetted by blood and dried again, was covered in dirt. A bullet had struck her face, almost shattering her entire jaw, with only a small part remaining below the nose, but those ballistic glasses were still on her head, the glasses Cui Bo had given to Lilia as a gift.

"Ugh, ugh, argh, ah, argh, ah..."

Cui Bo remained motionless, staring at Lilia’s body, muttering aningless gibberish, and despite clawing at his neck until it turned purplish red, he still felt like he couldn’t breathe.

The old man driving the tractor silently watched Cui Bo, while Gao Yang and his group had already jumped down from a nearby vehicle. As Gao Yang hastily moved toward Cui Bo, he was suddenly pulled back by Glolov, who quietly said, "Don’t go, let him be alone for a while!"

Cui Bo released his grip on his neck, looked up at the sky, then slowly lowered his head, and after gazing at Lilia’s incomplete face for a mont, he shakily reached out, wanting to remove the glasses from Lilia.

But Cui Bo quickly stopped his hand, which trembled violently above the glasses, but eventually, he withdrew his hand.

If not for those glasses, Cui Bo wouldn’t have recognized Lilia’s face. Now, he thought it best to let Lilia keep wearing the glasses. In such a way, in the future, many years later, when he thought of Lilia, he could still rember what Lilia looked like, rather than a face so blood-stained and shattered that it couldn’t be identified, otherwise, he would quickly forget what Lilia looked like.

No need to remove the glasses for identification; those are ballistic goggles that only Satan would use, high-end and very expensive. Nobody else in the militia would likely have them, and Doleisherlian certainly wouldn’t.

Cui Bo stopped his hand, took it back, then turned and threw away his crutches, leaning back against the flatbed with Lilia’s head, slowly sitting down to the ground. Sitting there, he felt he still had no strength to support his body, so he lay down sideways, hands covering his ears, eyes closed, lying motionless on the ground.
