Capítulo 1887: Chapter 1864: Here We Go Again

It’s the busiest ti for communications now, and there’s no signal in the basent. Gao Yang didn’t go down; he stayed outside to continue his calls.

Since he promised to inform Nate about any intelligence, once Gao Yang received important intel from Poloneshenko, it was only natural to promptly notify Nate.

“Nate, important intelligence: there are people within the 72nd Brigade that the Ukrainian military can’t control. You know what that ans.”

“Not surprising, the Aricans are bound to join the battle sooner or later. They’ve done this many tis before.”

Although he said it wasn’t surprising, Nate managed to smile bitterly as he spoke, then rather helplessly said, “It’s just that the Aricans sent people directly to the front lines, which can imply many things. The worst part is they struck Donetsk, which makes things even more troubleso. Is this information reliable?”

Gao Yang thought for a mont. Passing the intel received from Poloneshenko to the militia seed a bit unsound, but his dealings with Poloneshenko were nothing more than mutual exploitation, and he had leverage over Poloneshenko. It was a semi-coercive exchange. But his relationship with Nate was different; it wasn’t exactly a life-and-death camaraderie, but at least a friendship. So, passing the information to Nate didn’t burden him psychologically.

“This intel is from Poloneshenko. He wouldn’t disclose the backgrounds of those uncontrolled individuals, but you and I both think alike—who else could they be but Aricans.”

Nate sighed and said rather helplessly, “Arica’s involvent isn’t necessarily bad news because Russian involvent will inevitably follow. It’s just a matter of whether Russian support arrives in ti.”

Gao Yang laughed, “With Russia stepping in, your pressure should be much less, right?”

Nate said dispiritedly, “No, quite the opposite. If Arica stays out, Russia will restrain itself, but if Arica sends troops, Russia will inevitably join. Buddy, Russia is too close here, and as soon as they step in, this place will unquestionably fall under Russian control. I’m not afraid of hard battles or significant losses, but I’m worried I can’t get what I want from the Russians. You know what I want. When Russia steps in, achieving my desired results becos a lot harder.”

Nate’s intention was to seize territory amid the chaos in Ukraine and establish a state within a state, or simply create an independent country. Gao Yang felt this goal was hard to achieve, but if the enemy were the Ukrainian governnt, there might be a chance. But if Russia entered the fray, they’d beco Nate’s competitor. How could the Angel rcenary Corps possibly compete with Russia?

After ending the call, Gao Yang went down to the basent to gather everyone together. He planned to discuss the new circumstances they needed to watch out for but discovered the girl he had picked up was there, too.

With an outsider present, so things couldn’t be said. Gao Yang, with a gentle deanor, asked the nervous-looking girl, “What’s your na?”

“Valentina.”

“How old are you?”

“Nineteen.”

The girl appeared quite pretty.

Saying she’s pretty might be an overstatent, but Eastern Ukraine indeed produces won who et the aesthetic standards of the Huaxia people. There’s always sothing striking about a girl in her pri.

Gao Yang thought for a mont, scratched his head, and then addressed the slightly tense Valentina, “Valentina, that’s a lovely na. Are you feeling better now?”

“Yes, I’m feeling much better, sir.”

“That’s good. Here’s the situation: things outside have cald down a bit. Do you wish to return to your unit, or what are your plans?”

The girl hesitated for a mont and then softly said, head down, “I, I want to go ho.”

Gao Yang nodded, “That’s a reasonable choice. You shouldn’t feel guilty or embarrassed. You weren’t ant for the battlefield. We’ll take you back when we leave. You don’t have to worry about anything. Now, I want you to stand guard outside the basent for us for a while. It’s pretty quiet out there, but I need a sentinel. If you notice anything unusual, co tell . Oh, and don’t leave the upper building, okay?”

Valentina nodded and whispered, “Okay, sir, I’ll go.”

After Valentina left the basent, Eileen scornfully remarked, “If you wanted her to leave, you could have said so directly, without all the unnecessary chit-chat.”

Gao Yang cleared his throat, “Beautiful won deserve so courtesy. Okay, onto business. We can’t leave just yet. A lot of people besides the Ukrainian Army have arrived here, likely Aricans, but we won’t be attacked. If you encounter anyone from the 72nd Brigade, say we’re businessn here to deal with them, and we have a great relationship with Baskov, the brigade commander. Also, rember the code phrase: ‘Salute Yevgeny,’ and they’ll understand. Worth noting, Yevgeny is the commander ordered to attack Khartsyzk, a Colonel. Got it?”

“Got it.”

“Got it.”

Even Taylor and Jesse Lee confird they had heard and rembered Gao Yang’s words, but Cui Bo stood silently, dazed. Gao Yang said helplessly, “Rabbit, Rabbit!”

Cui Bo snapped back to attention, “Ah, yes?”

“Did you hear what I just said?”

“What?”

Gao Yang waved his hand helplessly and told everyone, “Forget it, keep an eye on him, and also on that Valentina outside, as well as our nutritionist. Now, we just need to wait for news. You can rest. I suspect the next offensive by the Governnt Forces and the militia’s counterattack won’t happen anyti soon. Nate told …”

Before Gao Yang could finish his sentence, the sound of artillery fire interrupted him, and soon, the basent lid was flung open. Valentina shouted down nervously, “They’re firing! They’ve started shooting again, really close, very close!”

Now only Andy He and Albert were still outside. Gao Yang shouted into the walkie-talkie, “Panda, Fat Cat! Get back to the basent now!”

“Here we go again! How can they be so unpredictable?”

Exasperatedly, Gao Yang motioned for Valentina to co down and said, “You co down! I’ll go up and check the situation. Rebrov, co with !”

The latter part was directed at others. The attack ca much earlier than anticipated. He needed to go out and see what was going on. He didn’t need to scout much but at least listen for where the guns were firing from and how intense the shelling was to judge the situation. He brought Rebrov along, of course, due to his familiarity with artillery.
