In the evening, Gao Yang didn’t drink with Glolov. He went with Number Thirteen to et Murphy because he was still thinking about the surprise Murphy ntioned.
Gao Yang and Number Thirteen arrived first. They waited outside a high-end restaurant for Murphy, who finally appeared after eight, arriving late.
Murphy exuded happiness from every pore as he approached the two, loudly proclaiming, "Tonight, it’s on !"
Gao Yang discontentedly replied, "Isn’t that how it should be?"
Murphy arrogantly led the way into the restaurant. After sitting at the reserved spot, he waved a hand and laughed, "Pop the champagne! We’re drinking champagne tonight!"
Once the waiter delivered the champagne, Murphy personally opened it and poured a glass for each of them, raising his glass high with a breath and a smile, "To Number Thirteen’s intuition, Ram’s shot, and my good luck. Cheers!"
After downing the champagne, Gao Yang set down his empty cup and nodded, "You really were lucky."
Murphy spread his hands and grinned, "I’m a cleaner, but I’m also FBI. No one likes to see their colleagues repeatedly humiliated by the sa person, especially if that humiliation falls on themselves. So, I’m really happy today. I got promoted, praised, beca a hero, and you guys reap the benefits. Everybody wins."
Gao Yang laughed, "Congratulations. Now hurry up and tell us about the surprise."
Murphy wiped his mouth and smiled, "Don’t rush. Aren’t you curious about the cri details of that neither-male-nor-female guy? You know, after I caught that guy, he started confessing his cris in the car. He was boasting, which is evidence for us. Usually, it’s hard to get such a psycho to confess, but this guy was an exception. He couldn’t wait to spill all his proud deeds."
After speaking, Murphy said excitedly, "The DNA results ca out in the afternoon, with no issues. At least seven dismbernt murder cases were confird through DNA to be his doing. But the guy confessed to killing a total of thirty people! Guys! Don’t you want to hear about it?"
Number Thirteen nodded, "Interested."
"Alright, it’s very bloody and brutal, guaranteed to whet your appetite."
"Stop!"
Gao Yang made a pause gesture, looking helpless. "We’re eating, and I don’t want to hear about a psycho’s killings, mate. Don’t ruin this dinner for . It’s not like you invite us often, so stick to the main point! What’s the surprise?"
Number Thirteen spread his hands, looking helpless, "Listen to him. You can privately share those details with later."
Murphy also helplessly said, "Okay, I’ll get to the surprise. I’m introducing you to soone, a sniper, a very good sniper."
Gao Yang said skeptically, "This is the surprise you’re talking about?"
"What do you actually want? You just took a shot. Is taking a shot that hard for you? Number Thirteen just happened to recognize a psycho. How difficult is that for him? I’ve already treated you to an expensive al and am giving you a super-skilled sniper. What more do you want?"
Gao Yang resignedly said, "Alright, you always have a point. So, tell about this sniper."
Murphy laughed, "The best, definitely the best!"
Gao Yang scoffed, "As if! If they were the best, you’d keep them yourself. Don’t you need the best sniper?"
Murphy shrugged, "Why would I need a sniper? I need killers who can murder unseen. But why would I need a sniper? When have we ever needed to use force to solve problems? To use guns is simply incredible to us. We are cleaners, not assassin groups, much less rcenaries. Buddy, get that straight. If you’re not an S-level client, we absolutely wouldn’t even involve in providing arms, let alone send people to act directly. Don’t underestimate your own status. How many people do you think could make us mobilize like this?"
Gao Yang raised his hand, "Okay, sorry. Please continue."
After making a discontented gesture, Murphy continued, "That said, we actually do need snipers occasionally. But this one’s different. This person didn’t et our requirents, so after evaluation, we abandoned any possibility of collaboration. We wouldn’t even absorb her into the cleaners. She doesn’t even know cleaners exist."
Gao Yang asked surprised, "She?"
"Yes, a woman."
Gao Yang scratched his head and said to Murphy, "Did I ever tell you about my experience in Ukraine?"
"No, why?"
"Nothing, please continue."
Murphy rubbed his chin and smiled, "This woman is extraordinary. She’s incredibly strong, but bloodthirsty, eager for slaughter. Such people aren’t suitable for cleaners, but I think she’s good for you."
Gao Yang frowned, "Bloodthirsty?"
Murphy pulled a photo from his pocket, placed it on the table, and continued to smile, "That’s her, Marie. You can also call her Phoenix, the Undying Bird. This woman is remarkable, though not famous. Her kill record isn’t extensive, but her timing is unparalleled. This is a woman who can change the tide."
Without the Specter, Gao Yang might not have been so interested in a female sniper. But to his surprise, after an unforgettable experience with a woman in Ukraine, Murphy was now introducing another female sniper to him in Arica.
Gao Yang picked up the photo and looked at it. The woman didn’t seem young, but not old either. He wasn’t great at guessing the ages of foreign won.
"How old is she, and what are her achievents?"
"Thirty-six, unmarried, no boyfriend. Lives alone in Richmond after retirent. Her biggest hobby is hunting. She doesn’t have an impressive battle record, but having capability doesn’t necessarily an having achievents. You need to understand, in a male-dominated environnt, commanders might tolerate a woman like a mascot in the team, but few are willing to send a female sniper into action. A glass ceiling always looms over won."
Gao Yang nodded, "Been to the battlefield?"
"Iraq, twice on missions, with six kills. Also two missions in Afghanistan, with three kills."
Gao Yang picked up the photo again, studying it for a mont.
The woman in the photo wore army camouflage, clutching a Sniper Rifle, sweetly smiling but with cold, slightly squinting eyes.
Gao Yang took a breath and said softly, "What’s her issue that made you recomnd her to ?"
Murphy shrugged, "She does have so psychological issues, not suitable for cleaners. But she’s made for rcenary work. This woman’s issue is she’s bloodthirsty. She dreams of rampant warfare, displaying her skills. Isn’t that precisely what you need?"
