“Thank you for your rescue. May I ask how I might address you?” Old Predecessor Guo recovered his composure and inquired, his gaze fixed on the woman as he speculated about her identity and her relationship with Yun Qi.
“It was nothing,” Feng Jiu replied, nodding briefly to him. “Farewell.” With that, she led Yue’er forward.
“Goodbye, Grandfather Guo,” Yun Qi called out, waving. She deliberately ignored Old Predecessor Yu, who had regained consciousness.
Outside, Feng Jiu helped the unconscious Song Mi’er to her feet. With Yue’er in tow, they left the Yu residence and headed straight for the inn…
With those individuals now dead, the protective barriers and formations around the Yu Manor dissolved automatically. After taking the dicinal pill, Old Predecessor Guo felt sowhat better. He steadied himself against the wall and stood up, then helped Old Predecessor Yu to his feet. As for the rest, they would have to wait until tomorrow to deal with it.
Hao’er and Muchen waited at the inn for their mother’s return. Their eyes kept darting toward the window until several figures suddenly leapt through the opening, startling both boys.
“Mother! What happened?”
“Sothing happened at the Yu residence. When Sister Mi’er and I arrived, we found the place sealed off by barriers and formations. Inside, people were either unconscious or dead. We were trapped too. Sister Mi’er sacrificed herself to save , only to have her soul drained by that thing. Thank goodness you ca, Mother. Otherwise, I’d have been taken too.” Yue’er explained beside them. Though small, her words were clear and concise.
By then, Feng Jiu had laid Song Mi’er on the bed. She took her pulse, frowned, then instructed Hao’er and Muchen, “I need to tend to her wounds. Have the attendant bring so clean water.”
“Right away,” Hao’er replied promptly, heading out first.
Instead of having the waiter bring it in, Hao’er personally carried the water and placed it by the bedside. By then, Muchen had already drawn the screen beside the bed to create a partition and stepped back outside.
Being young boys, Hao’er and Muchen waited outside the screen. Yue’er remained by the bedside, watching her Mother tend to Mi’er’s wounds.
When the clothes were removed, revealing the nurous wounds large and small, Yue’er’s small fist clenched slightly. “If Sister Mi hadn’t shielded , I might be the one injured now. Mother, will Sister Mi be all right?”
“Most of her injuries are superficial, and the internal damage isn’t severe. Treating her shouldn’t be a problem. However, she’s currently in a disembodied state—her physical form remains here, but her soul has been separated from it,” Feng Jiu explained calmly while tending to Song Mi’er’s wounds.
Hearing this, Yue’er urgently asked, “Can her soul return? Didn’t Mother bring back that Soul-Binding Bell? Sister Mi’er’s soul is trapped inside that bell, right?”
“That very Soul-Binding Bell is what brought disaster upon the Yu family,” Feng Jiu replied, her hand flickering as the small object appeared in her palm.
“Mother, is this a cursed object?” Yue’er asked, staring intently at the delicate item in Feng Jiu’s palm. It looked exquisitely crafted, resembling a bracelet, yet it could also extract one’s soul—appearing every bit the cursed artifact used by villains.
