Monday morning hit the Dunphy house like a natural disaster.

Luke missed the bus.

She dropped dramatically onto the stool beside him while checking emails on her phone.

Haley carried herself differently now.

Still expressive.

Still chaotic.

But more focused.

More adult.

The internship was changing her confidence in real ti.

Then Claire stord through the gate without knocking.

"I need five minutes away from your father before I commit a felony."

"That sounds healthy," Gael replied.

Claire grabbed coffee from the machine automatically before stopping halfway through the kitchen.

"What kind of monster schedules brainstorming at nine in the morning?"

"The employed kind," Alex answered while walking through the gate carrying debate folders.

Nobody even reacted anymore.

The houses had officially beco extensions of each other.

Alex dropped her folders onto the dining table before glancing toward Haley's screen.

"Oh. You're handling campaign outreach now?"

Haley looked mildly smug.

"Yes."

Alex blinked once.

"…That's actually fast."

There it was again.

Respect.

Still new enough that Haley visibly noticed it every ti.

"Apparently I'm good with people," Haley replied casually.

"That sounds profitable."

Gael hid a smile while Claire watched the sisters carefully over her coffee mug.

The dynamic between them had changed more in the past months than the previous five years combined.

Less competition.

Less resentnt.

Not perfect.

Just healthier.

Then Haley looked toward Alex.

"You still doing Stanford essay revisions?"

Alex imdiately looked exhausted again.

"Don't remind ."

She glanced down once before sighing heavily.

"Oh no."

"What?" Haley asked.

"Gloria wants to go shopping with her."

"That sounds normal."

"No." Claire narrowed her eyes at the phone. "She used three exclamation marks. That ans she's planning sothing expensive."

That sounded accurate.

Then another ssage arrived.

Claire read it.

Paused slightly.

Interesting.

"What?" Alex asked imdiately.

Claire looked up slowly.

"She invited Gael."

Silence.

Then Haley blinked once.

"…Why?"

Claire looked toward him briefly before answering carefully.

"She says she needs 'a man with modern taste.'"

Alex physically snorted.

"That sounds like trouble."

"That sounds dangerous," Claire muttered quietly into her coffee.

Then Haley looked between them.

"Well." She shrugged lightly. "She's not wrong. He dresses better than Dad."

"That is an incredibly low bar," Alex replied.
