Dinner dissolved slowly into smaller conversations as the evening settled over the backyard.

"You noticed that."

"I notice everything." Gloria smiled faintly into her glass. "Especially with won."

The pool lights reflected softly across the water between them while distant laughter drifted from inside the house.

Then Gloria looked toward the open back doors where Haley and Alex were arguing over laptop screens.

"She is beautiful and social, so people assu she is shallow." Gloria shrugged lightly. "After a while, even pretty girls start believing those things."

That sounded personal too.

Not just about Haley.

Gael noticed imdiately.

"So did you."

Gloria laughed softly once.

"You really are observant."

"You didn't answer."

She tilted the wine glass slowly between her fingers.

"When I was younger, people liked looking at more than listening to ." Her smile thinned slightly. "n especially."

The honesty underneath the sentence shifted the atmosphere subtly.

Because Gloria rarely spoke seriously without wrapping it in charm first.

"You know what's funny?" she continued. "Won like Claire spend years trying to be taken seriously. Won like spend years trying to prove we already are."

"You hide it well."

The way she could move from playful to vulnerable and back again so naturally it pulled people in before they realized it.

Then Phil yelled triumphantly from across the yard:

"THE LIGHTS ARE SYMTRICAL."

Jay looked exhausted.

"No one cares."

Gloria smiled into her wine before glancing toward Gael again.

"You see?" she murmured. "This is why I drink."
