The footsteps ca closer, and Mr. Sterling stood before Ethan Grant. He scrutinized Ethan with his deep eyes, and seeing Ethan not speak, only smoking heavily, he lowered his voice, "Is the situation not good?"
There were still a few reports Serena Sullivan hadn’t received. The attending doctor called him, suggesting it would be best for Serena to undergo a more comprehensive examination in the hospital.
There was nothing wrong with Serena’s legs, whether in terms of bones or ridians.
Her inability to stand wasn’t because of her legs.
Like Mr. Sterling, Ethan Grant believed that Serena, who had been pulled back from the brink of death by Dr. Mo, was fine now.
Little did they know, Dr. Mo had deceived everyone.
"Dr. Mo said there’s still an operation to be perford."
Ethan said in a calm voice, "He’s already making preparations in that regard."
"However..."
Serena still faced the risk of falling into a coma, and that risk remained significant.
"It’s my fault!"
As Ethan spoke, his throat grew drier, and all the pain in that instant flooded to his eyes, turning them a bloodshot red.
"I shouldn’t have argued with her, shouldn’t have lost my temper, shouldn’t have missed her call."
However, no matter how many tis Ethan said, "It’s my fault," or how much he regretted wishing he could take all of Serena’s burdens, it changed nothing.
The incident had happened, and no one could change it.
"Do you have another cigarette?"
After listening to Ethan’s words, Mr. Sterling’s voice softened, and he asked Ethan for a cigarette.
Ethan turned to look at Mr. Sterling. Despite being nearly fifty, Mr. Sterling had a strikingly handso face. Even Ethan was amazed at how generously fate had treated him. Yet, at this mont, Ethan couldn’t tell if it was his illusion or sothing else, but he noticed wrinkles at the corners of Mr. Sterling’s eyes, and those deep eyes carried much, much sorrow.
Ethan handed a cigarette to Mr. Sterling, who said nothing further. They stood together, the two of them smoking a cigarette.
In the hospital, many areas were non-smoking zones, including where they stood.
For Ethan to smoke alone, it was fine. With Mr. Sterling added, in no ti, a piercing alarm sounded. Realizing, they extinguished the cigarettes in their hands and stopped smoking.
Wyatt Sterling heard the noise, ca over to take a look, and saw the corner in front of him filled with smoke, perceiving sothing was off.
How could they suddenly start smoking in the hospital?
"I have other matters," Mr. Sterling extinguished his cigarette and said to Ethan, "I’ll leave this to you then."
He politely bowed his head and walked towards Wyatt Sterling.
Ethan watched the backs of Mr. Sterling and Wyatt. Taking care of Serena wasn’t a burden; it was his happiness.
He didn’t find another place to smoke. Instead, he took off his coat, brushed off the ashes, put it back on, and returned to the ward.
Serena saw him co in long after he’d left and then noticed the wind from outside bringing in a whiff of smoke.
"Did you go to smoke?"
Serena caught the scent.
Ethan walked over, a smile on his face, "I saw Mr. Sterling outside smoking, couldn’t resist."
"Next ti, don’t smoke."
For a man with such a heavy smoking habit, saying not to smoke was rather unlikely.
"Next ti, smoke less."
"Alright."
Ethan nodded, "I’ll smoke one at a ti."
He crouched down in front of Serena, reached out to touch her face. As sunlight flooded the room, her smile appeared so beautiful in Ethan’s eyes.
"Serena, you’re wonderful!"
