Hearing Ethan Grant praise her, Serena Sullivan didn’t feel particularly happy. Instead, she felt a bit uneasy, watching Ethan touch her legs. She rembered he had gone to see the doctor and suddenly had a bad premonition.
"Ethan, did Dr. Mo say anything?"
Dr. Mo ca over in the morning and sat in her hospital room for a while. He didn’t say anything substantial and then left. Serena wondered if he was waiting for soone who could make decisions for her?
The Sterlings ca in waves, and then they left.
The person who could make the best decisions for her was here.
It was her husband—Ethan Grant.
"Mm!"
Ethan nodded, "Serena, you’re smart. I can’t hide anything from you."
"What did he say?" Serena’s heart rose to her throat, her entire body tensed, and she suddenly got nervous. Ethan reached out, held her hand, and felt the warmth in her palm rapidly cooling.
"He said that your legs don’t look too optimistic."
"You’ll need another surgery!"
"Oh!" Serena had thought it was sothing else. Hearing Ethan ntion her legs, she was prepared and, although it hurt, she quickly accepted it.
"Serena!"
Ethan called out again, "After the surgery, there’s a possibility you could stand up."
"Or maybe there’s also a possibility I won’t, right?"
Serena gently smiled, turning her wheelchair to look out at the view.
The Imperial Capital’s hospital building had more than twenty floors, with VIP rooms on the twentieth floor. Sitting in her wheelchair, looking down, everything below—the cars, the people—looked like tiny ants, just like every one of them, really small. But to those around her, those she loved, those who loved her, her existence was very, very important.
"Mm!"
Serena gazed intently at the scenery in the sunlight outside, while behind her ca Ethan’s deep answer. He moved forward, gently placing his hand on her shoulder, leaning down to rest his forehead lightly on hers.
"Serena, with Dr. Mo’s high level of skill, it will work out."
This sentence wasn’t just to comfort Serena, but also Ethan’s way of comforting himself.
It will work out, Dr. Mo had pulled Serena back from the brink once before, and he can do it again a second ti.
"Mm." Serena nodded. Through the glass, she saw Ethan standing behind her, and raised her hand to place it over his on her shoulder.
"Ethan, I’m okay."
"I’m prepared for not being able to stand, and besides, whether I stand or not, you’re here. Those who love still love , and those who don’t, I won’t force them to."
"So, I haven’t really lost anything."
Ethan was stunned, not expecting Serena to see things so clearly. He was about to say sothing when he heard Serena add with a smile, "As long as I can live, that’s enough."
Having brushed with death twice, Serena increasingly cherished waking up to breathe in fresh air and sll the sun.
"Mm!" Ethan responded emphatically, intentionally accentuating the word, as he looked at Serena, whose spirits remained unaffected. He didn’t dare to talk about the other half of the matter.
The root of Serena’s problem isn’t her legs, and going through another surgery, like the first ti, brings the risk of not waking up.
He initially wanted to tell Serena, but halfway through, he decided not to.
Rather than make her upset, it was better to let her relax and live happily.
As for the result of the surgery, they’d talk about it later.
"Can I be discharged?" Serena’s question pulled Ethan back to reality.
"Yes!"
