"Alright, alright, let’s go inside and eat."
As she said this, Joan gave Cecilia a slight glare.
"Cecilia, you mustn’t be so careless in the future. No matter how pretty the lanterns are, getting so srized you fall into the river, what if next ti no one’s around?"
Cecilia smoothed things over.
"No worries, it was just an accident this ti, Grandma. Let’s go inside. Adrian and I will change clothes first."

The three of them sat around an octagonal table for dinner.
Adrian picked up a piece of stir-fried lotus root with a faint smile.
"Grandma, your cooking is excellent."
Joan knew Adrian was sucking up. Thinking how her granddaughter had rushed into marriage without even holding a banquet left her displeased.
"You’re quite the sweet talker. You know Cecilia was once the top scorer in Stellerton’s college entrance exams, right?"
"Which university did you graduate from, by the way?"
