The little brother’s na is Micah Morgan, the house belongs to his father. Currently, he’s studying for a master’s degree, and his personality is quite easy-going.
Phoebe King was tidying up her room, busy until after nine o’clock. She wasn’t sure if Stephen Sutton would co back tonight. Audrey Sutton ntioned he had a class tonight and should be finishing soon.
Standing on the balcony outside the room, looking at the dark balcony on the side, she pondered. The balcony she could see seed to be the one from the last room she stayed in. He probably doesn’t use this room much.
Phoebe King calculated his class ending ti. Just as she was about to head to the door to wait, Audrey Sutton sent her a ssage saying: Sister Phoebe, I just saw in the group that my brother said he’s coming ho tonight, not staying at the faculty apartnt.
Upon hearing this, Phoebe King’s eyes suddenly dimd, and she returned to her room to lie on the bed, asking Audrey Sutton: Didn’t he usually co here after night classes before? Why is he going ho today?
Audrey Sutton: Isn’t tomorrow the weekend? My brother will go straight ho after class. Don’t go looking for him at school. I’ll be heading ho too. Co over for a al then.
The next day.
Audrey Sutton and Shane Warner returned ho early in the morning. Hazel Yates knew they were coming back, so she started preparing lunch early.
They arrived at eight, and both Fourth Brother and Six hadn’t woken up yet.
Stephen Sutton sat on the sofa reading the morning paper. Franklin Sutton was on duty at the police station, Arthur Sutton had gone out with Samuel Sutton in the morning, and Evan Sutton was outside flipping and airing so herbs, seemingly to help with Hazel Yates’ body coldness.
After Audrey Sutton ca in and greeted everyone, she took Shane Warner straight upstairs, saying there was sothing she wanted to show him.
Shane Warner followed her to her room, watching as she rummaged through the drawers under her desk. After searching the ssy cabinets for a while, she found a small key, walked over to the wardrobe, inserted the key into the lock on the wardrobe drawer, and unlocked it.
Shane Warner leaned in: "Bought new clothes again?"
Audrey Sutton rolled her eyes at him. Inside the drawer were graduation certificates, classmate records, photo albums, and in the corner was a small velvet box. She took out the box and handed it to him: "This is it."
Shane Warner reached out to take the small box from her hand, examined it, and seeing her smiling and nodding, he opened the box.
Inside was a gray and white checkered handkerchief. He originally had no strong impression of this handkerchief, but recalling her ntion of it that day, he rembered it was the handkerchief he used to bandage her hand.
The handkerchief was washed clean, without any bloodstains. She must have taken good care of it, as it still looked new after all these years.
Holding the handkerchief, Shane Warner experienced a flurry of emotions.
Under the gaze of the smiling girl in front of him, his heart felt chaotic. He realized she truly loved him, but hadn’t expected her to love him for so long.
Even when their lives had little intersection, she quietly kept many mories of him while he remained unaware.
"Do you rember?" Audrey Sutton asked him with a smile.
Shane Warner lowered his gaze, smiling at the handkerchief. He thought, loving soone in such a solitary way for so many years must be tough, yet her smile seed light, as if rely having feelings for him made her genuinely happy.
Seeing Shane Warner silent, Audrey Sutton pouted in dissatisfaction: "I knew you wouldn’t rember anything, you..."
"Rembering is not important." Shane Warner softly interrupted her.
Audrey Sutton tilted her head, sensing there was more he wanted to say, and quietly watched him.
However, Shane Warner didn’t continue speaking. Instead, he hugged her, cupping the back of her head and kissing her...
What mattered was that he now knew he needed to love the girl in front of him even more.
He had never imagined that during his darkest days, soone had been loving him for so many years without his knowledge.
The emotions he felt couldn’t be expressed in words, and he wasn’t good at expressing them anyway.
He conveyed this deep affection through the kiss.
"Knock knock—"
The sound of knocking interrupted, and Audrey Sutton suddenly opened her eyes, blushing as she pushed Shane Warner away. She then heard Hazel Yates’ voice: "Phoebe is here, Audrey, co down quickly."
"...Okay! Coming!"
"Where’s Shane? I didn’t see him downstairs."
Audrey Sutton glanced sheepishly at Shane Warner, who seed to be smiling knowingly, and stamred back to her mom: "He’s here..." She added, "He’s borrowing my computer."
"Then co down. I need to pick so greens from the back garden. Keep Phoebe company."
"Okay!"
Audrey Sutton hurriedly closed the wardrobe, glanced shyly at Shane Warner, and walked towards the door.
Shane Warner followed her to the room’s door. When she opened the door, she pushed him back inside with a guilty expression: "Wait a bit before coming down. Don’t co with ."
Shane Warner: "..."
After speaking, Audrey Sutton quickly ran downstairs in a fluster.
Thinking about her bashful deanor, Shane Warner couldn’t help but smile. Following her instructions, he didn’t go downstairs with her. Besides, he was also interested in the albums in her drawer.
Shane Warner walked back into the room, reopened the wardrobe, took out a couple of albums, and sat by the bed leafing through them.
One album contained her family photos, showing many pictures from her childhood.
When she was born, at one hundred days, at one month...
When she was born, she was definitely a chubby child. Her little arms looked like lotus roots.
From the age of one, she gradually slimd down and grew increasingly delicate, though her head had little hair, resembling a little boy.
Around age three, she began to look like a little girl, wearing fluffy skirts loved by girls and sporting two small ponytails.
He flipped to a photo of her in a sunflower field, where her smile seed to pierce one’s heart. Just looking at the photo made him feel as if all life’s gloominess had been swept away by her smile.
Shane Warner took his phone from his pocket, opened the cara, and took a picture of the photo, saving it to his phone and setting it as the wallpaper.
After seeing so many photos, he realized she had always been a cheerful child. The only photo where she wasn’t smiling was when Norman Sutton took her pinwheel, and she cried in front of the cara, seemingly complaining to the photographer, while beside her, Norman Sutton grinned proudly, holding the pinwheel he had taken.
It seed this boy had been teasing her since they were young.
