After getting the information, Franklin Sutton and his group left.

Thinking that Shane Warner hadn’t eaten much at noon, Franklin drove to a nearby small town and found a slightly upscale restaurant for dinner, at least the environnt was much cleaner.

"Brother-in-law, do you rember the person Gabriel Armstrong ntioned?"

Shane seed distracted and only raised his head when he heard Franklin’s words, glancing at him silently without saying anything.

Seeing him like this, Franklin tentatively asked, "Could it be that my brother-in-law has soone in mind?"

Shane paused for a mont and then shook his head.

Franklin looked at Shane suspiciously, feeling that he definitely thought of sothing but was unwilling to say, so he didn’t press further.

By the ti they finished dinner, it was already past eight in the evening and it was dark outside, not to ntion it was raining. Since they had woken up early and spent the whole day out, Franklin suggested, "Shall we find a hotel to rest for a night before going back? Quite exhausting."

Shane looked at the ssage Audrey Sutton just sent him on his phone, asking if he wasn’t coming back tonight.

Shane stared at the ssage for a few seconds and replied via voice, "I am coming back, but it’ll probably be late. You sleep first, no need to wait."

Standing beside him, Franklin heard Shane’s reply and asked, "Not resting, brother-in-law? Can’t leave my sister for a night?"

Shane put away his phone, saying without reservation, "Can’t."

Franklin: "Tsk tsk tsk. Speaking of which, you really should thank . If I hadn’t taken Laura away that day, things would still be in chaos, right?"

Shane: "You did that for yourself."

He should still thank that girl for bravely stepping up.

Franklin: "Didn’t I inadvertently help you out?"

Looking at his watch, Shane urged, "Let’s get going. The sooner we go back, the sooner we can rest."

Franklin stretched and yawned, saying, "I’m really exhausted. We still have a three to four-hour drive back. Just thinking about it makes tired. There’s an inn right here; why not rest and leave early in the morning?"

Shane was already walking toward where they parked the car earlier, leaving behind, "I’ll drive."

Franklin chuckled, conveniently tossing the car keys to Shane, "Alright, I’ll nap in the car, you drive for two hours then wake up, and we’ll switch."

Shane didn’t respond. When Franklin woke up, the car was already parked outside Shane’s residence.

Franklin groggily looked outside the window, "We’re here?"

Stepping out of the car, Shane said, "Yeah, I’m ho now, car’s yours; drive where you need."

Feeling dizzy, Franklin sat in the car for a while before rolling down the window and shouting at Shane’s retreating figure, "If you think of anything, let know!"

Shane didn’t respond and continued walking toward the house.

Franklin rubbed his aching head, then patted his sleeping apprentice in the back seat, instructing, "Go drive."

...

Before Shane even entered the house, he noticed the lights on the first floor were on.

He thought it was past twelve now. She used to not sleep at this hour, but lately, she’d been going to bed around ten.

Shane opened the front door and heard the television blaring inside the house.

Standing at the entrance, he peeked inside, guessing she must have fallen asleep; otherwise, she would have run to greet him upon hearing him outside.

Shane quietly changed his shoes and tiptoed to the sofa, where he found Audrey bundled in a thick blanket, sleeping on it.

The sofa was quite large, so she seed to be sleeping comfortably.

Shane picked up the remote, turned off the noisy television, and without taking a shower or changing clothes, he only removed his coat, undid his belt, pulled up the blanket, and squeezed onto the sofa, pulling Audrey into his arms with so force.

Aware of the pull, Audrey slowly woke up. When she opened her eyes, she saw Shane’s face. She blinked sleepily for a couple of seconds before softly asking, "When did you get back?"

Shane glanced down at her and replied in a hoarse voice, "Just now."

Audrey yawned, rubbed her eyes, and said, "I was waiting for you, ended up falling asleep watching TV."

Shane smiled, holding her tightly as he said, "Didn’t I tell you not to wait?"

Audrey looked up at him, smiling, "If you said you weren’t coming back, I wouldn’t have waited, but you said you were coming back tonight, so of course I waited for you."

Shane smirked, resting his chin on the top of her head, breathing in the fragrance of her hair as he closed his eyes.

Audrey stiffened for a couple of seconds, noticed sothing was off with him, shifted in his arms to look at his face, and asked, "What’s wrong? You’re acting strange."

Shane paused and said, "I missed you."

Audrey, hearing those three words, couldn’t hide the smile on her face, teasing him, "That’s strange! Suddenly opening up like this? And you left just this morning. When you’re on business trips for days, I’ve never heard you say, ’I miss you.’ Did a guru enlighten you today?"

Amused by her teasing, Shane chuckled, "Do I need any guru to realize I miss you?"

Audrey wrapped her arms and legs around him, asking, "Did sothing happen today? A close call? Made you realize you’re afraid of losing ?"

Shane gently tapped her forehead, "Watch less TV dramas; what’s going on in that head of yours all day?"

Audrey: "Maybe it’s the magic of the night, making a ’stone’ turn warm? Or maybe I slept too deeply before; secretly confessing his love while I sleep, right?"

Shane: "Go to sleep."

Audrey beca more lively, "Is it true or not?"

Shane: "True or not, go to sleep!"

Audrey: "Have you whispered that you like when I was asleep?"

Shane: "No."

Audrey paused then whispered to herself, "I don’t believe you, I’m sure you did."

Shane closed his eyes and said nothing more.

After a few seconds of silence, Audrey squird and said, "You’re holding too tight, I can hardly breathe."

Shane relaxed his grip but didn’t respond.

He knew that if he started talking, she would keep going for ages.

Shane was indeed tired; he’d held on while driving back.

Though squeezed on the sofa, he felt particularly at ease holding her, quickly feeling drowsy.

Just as he was almost asleep, Audrey suddenly squird in his arms and whispered in his ear, "I can’t sleep, I’m hungry."
