Vanessa didn’t know exactly how drunk he was; if he was completely out cold, she might be able to kick him away and escape from his arms.

But she feared that if he had even a hint of awareness, he wouldn’t be happy about her resistance.

Hesitating, seeing that Miles wasn’t making any other moves, Vanessa maintained her stiff posture.

The ti seed to stretch on; ten minutes felt like an hour.

Noticing his grip seed to loosen, Vanessa carefully moved herself. Seeing no reaction from him, she quickly slipped out from under the blanket.

She stood by the bed, lost in thought for a mont, picked up her pillow. Half the blanket was pressed down by Miles, and she didn’t dare tug it or cover him with it.

She just walked to the sofa by the wall, picked up the plush blanket, and headed toward the door.

Just as she was about to open the door and walk out, she paused, glanced at the soft cat bed by the window where Blackie was curled up comfortably.

She looked back at Miles, sleeping sideways on top of the blanket. Vanessa hesitated, but ultimately returned, pulling the unpressed half of the blanket over him before heading to the living room to sleep on the chaise longue near the window, where he usually didn’t bring won.

She knew Miles always lived a pretty repressed life. Perhaps it was this environnt that shaped his paranoid, irritable, and suspicious character.

But she wasn’t the one who had hurt him, yet he always vented his frustrations on her.

At twenty-eight, Miles’s family urged him to marry, but he seed to deliberately defy them, constantly changing the won around him.

He had earned a reputation for having a chaotic private life, and no one took the initiative to arrange a marriage for him.

Vanessa still hoped that, once Miles got married and settled down, she might finally be free.

When he had his own family, a wife and children to care for, perhaps he wouldn’t control her the way he did now.

She always held onto this beautiful fantasy in her heart.

It was still dark outside at a little after six in the morning.

Miles rubbed his temples and sat up from the bed, wincing at the headache. Sitting on the bed to get his bearings, he finally realized, in the dim light from the window, that this wasn’t his room.

The room was neatly arranged, with a faint fragrance lingering amidst the sll of alcohol, a scent unique to her room.

The little cat was playing with a paper ball by the bed, its mischievous nature gradually showing as it beca familiar with the environnt.

Looking around the room but not seeing Vanessa, Miles couldn’t recall how he ended up in this room last night, but seeing the bed still neat, he figured he hadn’t done anything inappropriate to her.

Getting out of bed, he opened the door and headed to the living room, turning on the lights as he walked.

The sudden change in light woke Vanessa, who was curled up on the sofa sleeping. Groggily moving, she saw Miles and imdiately sat up from the sofa.

Miles paused mid-stride, only then noticing Vanessa slept there.

They locked eyes for several seconds; neither spoke, only the rain outside pattered continuously.

Miles was the first to move, acting as if Vanessa didn’t exist, going straight to the coffee table to pour himself a glass of water from the thermos.

Vanessa, enduring dizziness and headaches, returned silently to her room with her blanket and pillow.

She hadn’t slept well last night; she felt especially cold the whole ti.

Not sure if she’d caught a cold, she found so cold dicine in her bedside drawer and took it with the cold water she had poured last night.

Seeing that it was still early, the discomfort from dizziness led her back to bed, and she soon drifted off again under the covers.

Due to the rainy weather, it was still overcast outside even though it was past nine.

Shane woke up to see Audrey’s face in front of him, smiling as she looked at him, and she said, "I think you’ve really been influenced by . It’s the first ti I’ve seen you sleep this late."

Shane hugged Audrey and closed his eyes again.

Seeing Shane’s unusual behavior, Audrey touched his forehead and asked, "Are you sick? Are you feeling unwell sowhere?"

Shane held her closer, squinting his eyes at her, and said hoarsely, "In such cold weather, who wouldn’t want to stay in bed a little longer?"

"But you never used to be like this. Let check your pulse to see if you’re sick." Saying that, Audrey fumbled for his hand under the blanket, pretending to feel his pulse, looking very serious.

Shane just let her fool around in silence, watching her serious deanor as she stroked an imaginary beard at her chin, and solemnly said, "Sir, it’s a pregnancy pulse."

Shane gave her a glare, lightly smacking her forehead, while Audrey giggled and teased, "Are you really planning to live off a woman?"

Shane: "Why not if it’s possible?"

Although Audrey knew Shane was joking, she didn’t continue the banter. She looked at Shane seriously and asked, "Did sothing happen? Or have you been too tired from work lately?"

Audrey thought for a mont and asked, "... Is it sothing about your father... that’s not ideal?"

Shane seed to recall sothing, his gaze tightening, and his eyes dropped down.

Audrey also knew his father’s illness was untreatable, so words of cheerfulness like being optimistic didn’t offer any comfort.

She simply reached out, tightly hugging his strong body, looked up at him and said, "The baby and I will always, always be with you."

Hearing her words, an array of emotions surged in Shane’s heart, a feeling he couldn’t quite define, only knowing that having her by his side filled him with warmth.

He cradled her face, unexpectedly sealing her lips with his in a kiss.

Passionate, intense, lingering...

Considering that Audrey was pregnant and shouldn’t be left hungry, Shane didn’t linger in the mont, organizing his thoughts, he went downstairs to prepare breakfast.

Before breakfast was served, so of Audrey’s friends ca over.

Shane didn’t say much, urging Audrey to finish her breakfast before he left under the guise of going to work.

The rain seed endless, the cold seeping to the bone.

Shane drove away from the bustling city, arriving in front of a two-story villa on the outskirts.
