On the bus, the two sat in the last row by the window.

Evelyn Linton acted like a tour guide, constantly pointing out the shops outside the window and introducing them to Scott Sutton.

Which store had good food, which one had reasonable prices, which one didn’t charge a delivery fee, and so on.

It wasn’t far, just two stops, and after getting off at the bus stop, they walked for another two minutes to get to the shop Evelyn ntioned.

The restaurant’s environnt was quite nice, probably because it wasn’t in a pri location, so the rent wasn’t as high as the previous one, making the dishes relatively cheaper.

Evelyn was likely a regular here; as soon as she got the nu, she started introducing Scott to the must-try dishes.

"This place has special offers every Wednesday. Many drinks and desserts are half-price for the second order. I usually co here with my assistant."

After Evelyn said this, she saw Scott typing sothing on his phone. Knowing he likely had sothing to say, she patiently waited. Soon, Scott handed her his phone, and when she glanced at the screen, she couldn’t help but twitch her lips at what was displayed.

Scott asked her if they were splitting the bill.

Although it was true, for so reason, Evelyn felt that the way Scott asked made the practice seem stingy, and she responded with a forced smile, "It’s not always splitting the bill. Sotis I treat, sotis she does."

Scott couldn’t help but want to laugh. Evelyn dryly laughed, picking up her wine glass for a sip, then said, "... Today I’ll treat you, after all, you just moved, and it’s only right that I host you for a al."

Scott just smiled, not saying anything, but it was clear that when Evelyn said this, she wasn’t very sincere, clearly already calculating how much this al would cost and how she could earn this money back.

It was as if treating this al was a losing business for her.

Soon, two steaks arrived on the table.

Evelyn licked her lips, looking eager to start eating, seeing how she took up a knife and fork only to put them down, then shrugged off her leather jacket, seemingly as if the jacket restricted her movent.

"The weather’s getting warr now, no need for heating in the store, it feels quite hot," Evelyn said as she took off her jacket and stacked it on the chair, then glanced at Scott, who was still wrapped tightly in his tracksuit jacket, asking, "Crystal, are you not hot?"

Hot, but he didn’t dare to take it off.

Scott smiled, curling his lips, then shook his head.

Evelyn chuckled as she explained, "I tend to feel warm easily, and just a little warmth, and I start to sweat."

Midway through the al, Scott received a call from Audrey Sutton, but because Evelyn was right across from him, for the first ti, he hung up on his little sister, then quickly replied with a ssage on WhatsApp: What’s up?

Audrey sent a voice ssage saying: Big brother, why did you hang up on ? Mom’s asking if you’ll co back for dinner.

Hearing this "big brother," both Scott and Evelyn paused, and Scott nonchalantly replied with a line of text: Not coming back, eating out.

Out of curiosity, Evelyn asked, "Your good friend? Why does she call you big brother?"

Scott typed out a line: They’re used to calling that.

Evelyn laughed, "But that’s not strange; nowadays, many tomboyish girls get called ’big brother’ by others. I just thought Crystal was more of an introverted girl."

Scott just smiled and brushed off the topic.

After the al, they returned to their accommodation. After dropping off their things, Scott left to find Audrey and the others, and Evelyn began packing the previous night’s orders downstairs.

In the evening, Scott only went out after having dinner at ho, first visiting the store before driving straight back to the apartnt area.

At the apartnt entrance, he ran into the girl who had helped Audrey move that day, who seed to have just gone out to shop, struggling with a large bag in one hand.

Seeing the girl’s thin arms, Scott hesitated for a mont before approaching her and asking, "Need help?"

Vanessa Sterling heard soone speaking behind her and shivered, startled.

Then, seeing it was Audrey’s brother, she smiled and shook her head, politely declining, "No need, it’s just a short way."

Scott nevertheless took the bag from her, "Let help you to the elevator. But it seems like you live alone? Why buy so much food?"

Vanessa bit her lip, explaining, "Audrey ntioned camping in a few days, and I’m not sure what to bring, so I thought I’d go to the supermarket to buy so snacks and fruit for everyone to share."

Scott: "You’re thoughtful for thinking of that, but the guys already went shopping this afternoon and prepared a lot. You don’t need to worry."

Scott helped place the items in the elevator, "I won’t see you up."

Vanessa apologetically said, "You’ve helped enough, thank you."

Scott smiled, turned around, and walked towards the building where Evelyn lived.

Vanessa stood in the elevator, before the doors closed, she leaned out for a last look outside.

Since moving here, every ti she went out, she felt like soone was following her. Even while shopping today, she felt as though soone was watching her from a corner. But she found no one suspicious, unsure if she was just being overly sensitive and paranoid.

...

When Scott returned to the apartnt, he t two couriers coming to pick up packages, while Evelyn was busily packing away, looking busy yet thodical.

"You’re back?"

Scott nodded, stepping over the yet-to-be-moved packages by the door, entering the room, and typed a line on his phone, asking Evelyn: Need any help?

Looking at the screen, Evelyn laughed and shook her head, "No need, almost done. By the way, have you eaten?"

Scott pointed at the ti displayed on his phone, indicating it was almost seven.

Evelyn was surprised, "Seven already?! I need to quickly order takeout, out of ti, I’ll finish this tomorrow, need to prepare for a broadcast."

Saying this, Evelyn put down her work and went to the couriers, "Just take this side of the packages, also please close the door when you’re done."

"Got it, don’t worry."

They seed to be regulars, as Evelyn was quite at ease with the couriers and hurriedly went upstairs.

Just thinking about how busy she’d been all day made Scott feel tired for her, but Evelyn still seed full of energy. Perhaps she regarded the pile of packages as a pile of money, and so with money as motivation, she didn’t feel tired at all.
