After the embrace, Richard Sheffied gently let go of Vanessa Sterling, and as their eyes t, an unconscious blush crept up Vanessa Sterling’s face.
Seeing Richard Sheffied suddenly lean in, Vanessa Sterling snapped back to her senses, instinctively leaning back in a reflexive motion, making a gesture to dodge.
Richard Sheffied noticed this, and after a mont of surprise, imdiately stepped back, smiling apologetically, "Sorry, I was too eager."
Vanessa Sterling only then realized that her actions might have caused a misunderstanding for Richard Sheffied, and hurriedly explained, "...I’m sorry, I’m just not used to it, I didn’t an anything else."
Richard Sheffied chuckled softly and said, "I understand, I just got a bit too excited. Let’s eat, try your cooking."
Vanessa Sterling picked up the chopsticks, smiling a bit shyly, "...Actually, I’m not great at cooking, so I don’t know if it tastes good, but I’ve been learning recently, so I should improve in the future."
After tasting a bite, Richard Sheffied smiled gently and said, "It’s delicious. But you don’t have to go out of your way to learn, because I’m pretty good at cooking. It’s hard work, so when I’m done with these few busy days, let cook for you instead."
Vanessa Sterling shook her head with a smile and said, "I don’t have much to do at ho, and I’ve actually quite enjoyed learning to cook lately, as long as you don’t mind if what I make isn’t delicious."
Richard Sheffied: "Getting to eat what you make with your own hands, I feel happy already."
Inside the room, the atmosphere was warm and romantic, while outside the door, Miles Sterling, just back from abroad, stood at the door with his suitcase, looking at the doorbell, yet never mustering the courage to press it.
After a long ti, Miles Sterling collected his thoughts and pushed open the door next to theirs, returning to his own room.
After so ti recovering, he no longer needed a cane to walk, and the doctor said his foot injury was healing well, that with continued care, he could recover to a state not unlike any ordinary person.
Gwen Grant had been quiet during this period; although she didn’t sign the divorce papers, she hadn’t been in touch with Miles Sterling either, and he found himself disinclined to deal with these matters.
After showering and coming out of the bathroom, he sat on the sofa and lit a cigarette, woodenly staring at the surveillance footage on the tablet.
When the cigarette was halfway through, the seemingly still image finally had so movent.
Vanessa Sterling and Richard Sheffied walked past his door hand in hand, quickly disappearing from view, yet that scene was etched into Miles Sterling’s mind, unable to be erased.
Flicking the ash from the cigarette in his hand, he rose to find a bottle of alcohol from the pile of gift boxes in the corner, and walked out onto the balcony, drinking alone as he gazed at the moonlit night.
Suddenly, he also wished that he would never recover his mories.
He even wished he could forget Vanessa Sterling ever appeared in his life, so that he wouldn’t feel as miserable as he did now.
Seeing the affectionate scene between Vanessa Sterling and Richard Sheffied made him uncomfortable, yet he couldn’t help but want to watch.
Calculating the ti Vanessa and her company would return, Miles Sterling, slightly tipsy, watched the surveillance footage on the screen.
Half-conscious, he saw them appear on the screen once more.
Vanessa Sterling affectionately clung to Richard Sheffied’s arm, looking up and smiling as she spoke to him.
Even through the screen, one could feel the happiness in Vanessa Sterling’s heart.
Seeing the smile on Vanessa Sterling’s face, Miles Sterling suddenly smiled too, but then his eyes were filled with lancholy, after a belch, he put the bottle back to his mouth...
Finally, under the effects of alcohol, he fell asleep on the chair on the balcony.
