When Vanessa Sterling heard the doorbell, she just assud her takeout had arrived and imdiately opened the door.
When she saw who was standing outside, Vanessa froze for a mont, then put on a guarded and cautious look.
Gwen Grant spoke first. "I have sothing I want to talk to you about."
Vanessa stood in the doorway and didn’t let Gwen in. Instead she said, "If this is about Miles Sterling, it’d be better for you to go straight to him."
Gwen let out a cold laugh, sounding slightly annoyed. "What are you showing off about? You want Miles to know I ca to see you, so you can go cry in front of him and have him deal with , is that it?"
"If there are problems in your marriage, shouldn’t you look for the cause in yourself first, instead of just blaming other people?"
Gwen seed to find Vanessa’s words ridiculous. She gave a derisive snort and said, "You’re really this righteous about being the other woman? No matter how long you’ve known him, I’m the one who’s his lawful wife."
To Vanessa, Gwen like this was sowhat annoying, but also a bit pitiful.
She wasn’t sure whether the problems in Miles and Gwen’s marriage had anything to do with her, but she really hadn’t done anything, so she wasn’t going to accept Gwen’s accusations, and she definitely didn’t want to get involved in this.
"These are issues you should sort out with your husband in private, not go around like so unreasonable shrew disturbing other people’s lives."
Gwen had already been quite displeased with Vanessa, and when she heard Vanessa insult her like that, her temper flared up instantly. She was just about to start cursing when the phone in her bag rang.
The ringtone was the special one she’d set for Miles Sterling. She hadn’t heard that sound in a very, very long ti...
Gwen hurriedly pulled the phone out of her bag and answered with a hint of surprise, "Miles?"
Miles Sterling’s cold voice ca through the phone. "Leave there right now. Don’t bother her."
The smile on Gwen’s face froze. "...You called just because of her, didn’t you?"
Miles repeated impatiently, "Leave. Now."
Gwen laughed coldly and hung up the phone in a fit of anger.
Ever since she got pregnant, not once had Miles said a single caring word, whether to her or to the child in her belly.
But the mont it had anything to do with Vanessa Sterling, he acted like he was watching her every second, always managing to show up at the first possible mont.
Anger, jealousy, resentnt...
Seeing that Gwen’s expression didn’t look good, Vanessa didn’t want to argue with her. She was about to close the door when she saw the elevator doors open and the delivery guy walk out.
He’d delivered takeout to Vanessa several tis already. Carrying the food, he jogged over and greeted her with a smile, "Got a friend over today, huh?"
Vanessa just smiled without explaining. She reached out and had just taken the takeout from him when Gwen suddenly lashed out like she’d gone crazy, slapping the bag hard. The bag dropped to the floor at once, soup and dishes spilling everywhere.
The delivery guy froze. He’d never run into sothing like this and had no idea what to do for a mont.
Vanessa said softly, "It’s okay, I’ll take care of it."
The delivery guy said, "...I’ll go back and talk to the restaurant, see if they can send you another one."
"Don’t trouble yourself, just go on with your work."
The guy could tell the atmosphere was off, so after apologizing he turned and left.
Gwen’s eyes were red with anger as she shouted at Vanessa, "Quit pretending to be so kind of saint! You still say you’re not in touch with Miles? I’m pregnant and you’re still wrecking my family. You’re going to get what’s coming to you, you know that?!"
