The driver didn’t expect to encounter such a situation. Her shout snapped him out of it, and he hastily said, "I’ll go right away!"
His phone was in the car, so he had to jog back to make the call.
"Hello, 110? Someone’s been kidnapped here, on the road behind the Film City. License plate number? It happened so suddenly, how could I possibly notice the license plate? You should check the surveillance cameras around here. There should be cameras at the nearby intersections..."
He was urgently urging the nearby police station to dispatch officers, but the people at the station sounded nonchalant, as if they weren’t in any rush, continually asking one question after another.
The driver was furious but had no choice but to repeatedly municate and nudge them.

The cramped backseat of the van was packed with five people. Ever since she got into the car, Rong Yan had been sitting quietly in the innermost seat, leaning her body against the door and looking sideways out the window.
The car sped along quickly, and the scenery on both sides of the road blurred as it zipped past. While watching the view outside, Rong Yan rapidly processed the road signs of Capital City in her mind.
This road led to the outskirts of the city. If they drove much further, they would leave the Capital City limits altogether. Once outside the city, she would be lost.
Since getting into the car, the people inside had fallen into a tacit silence. Four masked men sat with her, occasionally glancing in her direction.
One of them, seemingly unable to resist any longer, leaned toward the man beside him and whispered, "It’s so stifling. Can I take this thing off my head? I’m about to die from the heat."
As he spoke, he reached up to tug at his hood to ventilate himself, his expression one of unbearable disfort.
Just as he lifted the hood slightly to catch some air, a hand struck the back of his hand. The man beside him scolded angrily, "Are you fucking stupid? The hostage is right here, and you dare take off your mask? Are you tired of living?"
"But... I’m so hot I can’t stand it. If I don’t take it off, I’m going to die from the heat!"
"Then suck it up. Who told you to go cheap when Big Brother asked you to shop for supplies? The stuff from that seller is clearly bad quality."
"But that seller was the cheapest on Taobao. We only have one shot at this—what’s the point of buying the good stuff?" He looked aggrieved, mumbling to defend himself.
The other man was so infuriated he could barely contain himself. He shot him a glare but, seeing his clueless expression, huffed in frustration, "I don’t even want to talk to you!"
