"I don’t even feel like talking to you." The funniest-looking kidnapper, clearly disliked, snorted and turned his head away.
Rong Yan noticed him glancing in her direction.
Not long after, his incessant chatter broke the silence in the car again, "Hey, why isn’t this hostage making a fuss?"
Rong Yan: "..."
"On TV shows, women who get kidnapped usually cry and scream, begging us to let them go. Why isn’t she reacting at all?"
As if just asking wasn’t enough, he jabbed the person next to him with his elbow, pletely forgetting his claim about not wanting to talk earlier.
The man next to him, who had been elbowed, was surprisingly posed. He glanced at Rong Yan before shrugging it off, saying, "Why do you care so much? If she isn’t causing trouble, all the better. Either way, even if she begged us to release her, we wouldn’t. Saves us the headache of hearing her yap away. Stop talking to her. I reckon she’s got tricks up her sleeve and might be scheming to escape."
"Oh."
Despite his agreement, he kept staring straight at Rong Yan like he intended to scrutinize her down to the last detail.
Suddenly being stared at so openly, Rong Yan furrowed her brow but acted as though she hadn’t noticed, continuing to quietly watch the scenery outside of the car window.
As expected, the vehicle bypassed the highway and drove out of Capital City along the outskirts. The surroundings grew increasingly barren. Rong Yan pressed her lips into a tight line, already contemplating the worst-case scenario—this group intended to take her to some remote area in the mountains to kill her and dump her body!
This was her first time encountering such a situation, and for a brief moment, her mind went blank, unable to e up with a solid plan.
She had two anesthetic needles in her possession, with the tips coated in a homemade sedative strong enough to knock out an elephant.
The problem was that she only had two needles, and there were five people on the opposing side. What’s more, it wasn’t as if the five of them would stupidly stand still waiting to get stabbed.
The moment she took one of them down, the remaining four would undoubtedly bee wary. Then what would she do?
During the journey, Rong Yan thought of countless possibilities. She considered taking out one and making a run for it, or perhaps waiting for the car to pass by a gas station and seeking help under the pretense of needing to use the restroom... Every plan had its flaws, none of them guaranteeing success.
Rong Yan stared out at the scenery, slumping powerlessly against the car window.
If success wasn’t certain, it was better not to act. Acting recklessly and alerting them would only lead to a quicker death.
The car bumped along a stretch of uneven, rocky road before finally arriving at a place resembling a village. The driver steered the car onto a hillside farmyard and parked it.
"We’re here. Get out."
The other four men got out of the car together, and Rong Yan followed suit, cooperating as she stepped out.
Initially, she thought they’d bring her to an abandoned factory or some desolate reservoir, but she never expected to end up in the countryside.
If it weren’t for her current predicament of being kidnapped, the sight of lush green mountains and pristine waters might have been quite refreshing.
A tall, brawny man—standing nearly six feet tall—kicked the car door shut. Turning to look at her with a hostile expression, he asked incredulously, "Why are you looking all around? Don’t tell me you’re in the mood to admire the scenery?"
Rong Yan shot him a glance and replied indifferently, "Is that not allowed?"
The burly man hadn’t expected her to remain so calm. Stunned for a moment, he cursed under his breath, muttering, "Damn, are all women from the city this weird? Is she brain-dead or what? She’s been kidnapped and still has the mood to admire the mountain views."
After grumbling about how bizarre this was, he decided to ignore Rong Yan. Instead, he kicked at the other men and barked furiously, "What the hell are you all standing around for? Hurry up and throw this woman into the woodshed! Do you want people nearby to see that we’ve brought someone here?"
