Rong Yan sat at her seat and finished her caramel macchiato, only then did she wince as she glanced at the two barely-touched vanilla lattes on the table. She counted the money left in her deflated wallet and called the waiter to pay the bill.
Three cups of coffee had cost her nearly a thousand.
Having paid the bill, Rong Yan stepped out of the café, walked back to the roadside, hailed a taxi, and lowered her cap, saying, “To Li Group, please.”
“Sure thing,” the driver replied, turning the car around and heading in the direction she had indicated.
Rong Yan found her phone in the back seat and checked the time. She originally wanted to send a text to Li Shengxiao, but after some thought, she decided she wanted to surprise him instead and put her phone back in her bag.
The taxi soon arrived at Li Group.
Rong Yan paid the fare and had just arrived when she unexpectedly ran into Gu Ming, who was just ing out of the elevator, preparing to leave.
“Hi, Assistant Gu, what a coincidence,” Rong Yan greeted him proactively, patting him on the shoulder.
Gu Ming had a high status at Li Group and was usually very strict with his subordinates; almost no one dared to joke with him, let alone pat his shoulder and greet him like a friend.
So when Rong Yan patted him, he frowned, his face stern. When he turned around and saw Rong Yan, the displeasure on his face immediately dissipated, and he said in surprise, “Miss Rong, what brings you here?”
“I came to see Li Shengxiao,” Rong Yan said with an undisguised, beaming smile. “Where is your boss?”
Gu Ming said awkwardly, “Mr. Li is at Li Mountain playing golf.”
“Li Mountain? Why has he gone so far?” Li Mountain was on the outskirts of Capital City, about 30 kilometers from the downtown area; it would take around 40 minutes to get there by car.
But she knew that the place had beautiful scenery and many high-end private clubs and villas were located there.
Gu Ming continued, “There’s a nice, quiet golf course on Li Mountain, not too disturbed by others. The president of the other pany chose to play there, so Mr. Li went over.”
“I see,” Rong Yan said, feeling a little downcast. It meant she had made a wasted trip.
The dejection on her face was very apparent, and Gu Ming saw that. His eyes flickered, and suddenly, as if he’d had an idea and glanced at the documents in his hand, he said, “Miss Rong, are you free right now?”
Rong Yan looked up, puzzled. “Yes, I am.”
She had e to meet someone, only to find she had missed the opportunity and had ample free time now.
Gu Ming seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, handing over the documents he was holding to her. “Mr. Li called earlier, saying he’s forgotten the contract he needs to sign with the client, and asked me to deliver it. I’m feeling a bit unwell in the stomach right now and was wondering what to do. Since you’re here, could you help me deliver these documents?”
“Deliver documents?” Rong Yan took the leather bag in surprise. “Should I take a taxi over? I don’t know where he’s playing golf. It would be inconvenient to have to call him to e out and meet me.”
Seeing her reaction, Gu Ming knew he might have a chance. He promptly said, “I wouldn’t ask Miss Rong to take a taxi. I’ll arrange for a driver to take you. The driver knows the location, and once you arrive, I’ll call them to have someone guide you to the golf course where Mr. Li is playing. Then all you need to do is give Mr. Li the document bag.”
He looked at her, pleading, “Miss Rong, I’m really not feeling well, otherwise I wouldn’t trouble you with this errand. Please~”
Rong Yan didn’t quite believe that he was actually suffering from a stomach ailment, and it wasn’t that she was unwilling to help. Gu Ming had already asked, and she had been wanting to see that man anyway, so she nodded, “Alright then.”
