It made a shushing gesture and then perked up its ears, listening intently. Soon, a buzzing sound ca from the swamp forest, and the Old Wolf Man’s face turned serious. He imdiately led his people to retreat.
However, during the retreat, a heavy-footed Barbarian Soldier accidentally stepped on an anti-infantry landmine casually buried at the water’s edge by so unknown little fellow.
With a loud boom, the guy was blown to pieces, scattering flesh and blood everywhere.
The mont the pungent sll of blood released, strange vine-like snakes were imdiately attracted, erging from the muddy soil. Amidst the flying mud, two hunters who couldn’t dodge in ti were caught by the necks and yanked into the air like they were on a slingshot.
This shocking change happened within seconds, so fast that the Hunting Team Leader and Warlord Kort couldn’t react. The squad had already lost more than five mbers, and worse, the owner of that buzzing sound had already appeared.
A massive blood-colored swarm burst from the woods. Each "bee" was the size of a thumb, looking terrifying...frightening the wolves. Their target was clear, obviously these Wolf People who disturbed the peace by the water’s edge.
"Jump in! Quickly!"
The usually crude Warlord Kort acted with rare decisiveness.
He grabbed the Hunting Team Leader and a nearby Wolf Person, hurling them into the filthy pool, subrging their heads to block the fearso swarm. Those who reacted too slowly tried to run, but soon, heart-wrenching screams echoed above the water’s surface.
The three fortunate Wolf People held their breath in the water for a few minutes before cautiously peeking out their heads.
The other Wolf People in the group had already perished by the pond, their deaths were as horrific as encountering piranhas, reduced to desolate bones with tattered flesh after the blood-colored swarm passed by.
Even more terrifying, the unremarkable gray lichen by the water began absorbing the blood under its stimulation, quickly "swelling" up, resembling spiky sea urchins.
The Hunting Team Leader crawled ashore from the other side of the pool, picked up a stone, and threw it. The mont it contacted the spiky lichen, those black-red spikes shot out in all directions, even piercing into the adjacent stone.
This scene made the three surviving Wolf People exchange glances, even the dullest Kort realized there was sothing wrong with this swamp.
"Bypass here, gather the people, and then we’ll retreat the way we ca."
The experienced Hunting Team Leader could no longer bother to ridicule Kort as incompetent. He cautiously observed the surroundings, whispering to Kort.
Even the irritable Barbarian Soldier Warlord stopped squabbling, pulling out a horn from his belt to rally his subordinates. But a glance aside showed the third Wolf Person they had saved earlier was uncomfortably scratching their back.
"What’s wrong with you?"
The Warlord asked, slightly annoyed. The Wolfman Hunter rasped:
"Not sure, feels like sothing’s stuck on my back from the water, a bit painful... Ah! Help get it off! It’s burrowing into my body."
The hunter cried out in pain, trembling as he turned around, startling both the Hunting Team Leader and Warlord Kort. On the hunter’s back, at the spine, a large gray leech was burrowing into the skin towards the spinal bone, but the hunter claid it only felt slightly painful.
Bloody hell!
That’s already a fatal wound, how can you feel only slight pain?

Sothing’s not right.
The Leader and the Warlord imdiately took a step back, gripping their weapons tightly, tensely watching the increasingly erratic movents of the Wolfman Hunter. A few seconds later, the creature stopped convulsing, then turned around, its face now expressionless, eyes lifeless—seemingly under the control of so force.
"Demon!"
The Hunting Team Leader cursed, pulling out a bone knife and beheaded the Wolfman before it could attack, the corpse collapsing to the ground. A plump leech leapt from the bloody spine, trying to escape, only to be smashed by Warlord Kort with a stone.
The Warlord panted heavily.
By this small pool, he and the surviving Hunting Team Leader were speechless, witnessing the two Wolfman Hunters earlier hung by vines now plunged into the pool—they were already drained of all bodily fluids, leaving only shriveled remains.
From a twelve-mber hunting party, including the Warlord, thirteen—now only the two of them remained, and it hadn’t even been thirty minutes since they entered the Polluted Swamp.
"Woo woo woo"
Warlord Kort blew the horn for gathering.
But aside from its sound echoing in the swamp forest, no response ca for a long ti.
"The others probably t a grim fate too."
The Hunting Team Leader sighed and said,
"Let’s go, report this to The Grand Marshal, this swamp is like a green Hell."
"Sothing’s wrong."
Kort clenched the horn tightly, saying:
"If the Polluted Swamp is like this, then how did those Transia People cross here to Blackfla Mountain Pass and Wasteland Mountain to fight us?
This isn’t right!
It wasn’t like this before!
Maybe those damned Transia People used so dark magic, surely that’s it! They feared our army, turning their swamp into a nest of monsters... Wait, you seem to have stepped on sothing just now!
