Paaaaaam!

The horn of the ship echoed throughout Port No. 5. As the massive vessel slowly approached the dock.

Both Zac and Marty were currently standing among the crowd with wide-open eyes and mouths, waiting to board.

"Honestly, when I found out that guy was a scamr, I thought these tickets would turn out to be fake too. But looking at the ship now... Maybe it was worth it."

"You really think so?" Zac asked.

"Yeah." Marty pointed toward the approaching ship. "Just look how magnificent it is."

Just like he said, the ship was enormous even before it fully docked; its sheer size towered over everything around it.

Once the boarding process began, passengers were allowed to enter after their tickets were checked. After stepping inside, both Zac and Marty imdiately understood where all that money had gone.

The ship had five floors.

The fifth floor was dedicated to supplies, storage, and maintenance facilities. The fourth is used to house the sailors, workers, and crew mbers.

The first, second, and third floors were reserved for passengers, containing hundreds of rooms on each level.

The ship also offered all kinds of entertainnt facilities, including movie theatres, gaming halls, libraries, gyms, ditation rooms, and more.

It felt more like a floating city than a ship.

After entering, Marty imdiately dragged Zac around to explore, and for the next two hours, the two wandered from one area to another, fully engaging in every type of activity.

Eventually, Marty collapsed onto a chair. "Just how many places does this ship have? And more importantly, isn’t the trip only twelve to fifteen hours long? How is anyone supposed to use all of these facilities?"

"That’s where you’re wrong; most of these places are just marketing gimmicks. They exist mainly to justify higher ticket prices."

Marty stared at him. "Have you traveled on one of these ships before?"

"I think I have."

"You think?"

"I don’t rember clearly." Zac leaned back in his seat. "My mom told we used to live in Central City when I was still a toddler."

"So she must have used one of these ships when we moved to llow City."

Marty sat upright. "Really? You never told that before."

Suddenly a grin appeared on his face. "Don’t tell . You’re secretly the heir of so mysterious super-rich family from the Central City."

"Maybe," Zac smirked. "Who knows?"

Before Marty could continue his imagination-fueled theories, an announcent echoed throughout the ship.

"Dinner is now being served. All passengers are requested to proceed to the dining hall."

"We should eat and get so sleep. Tomorrow is going to be a long day."

Marty slowly rose from his seat. "Surely it can’t be worse than today."

The tired look on his face made Zac laugh, and together, they headed toward the dining hall.

The mont they entered, Marty froze. The dining hall was filled with wealthy passengers all around.

Elegant suits, expensive dresses, luxury accessories. Everywhere they looked, people looked rich.

Marty glanced down at his own clothes and then back at the crowd.

"I really need to go shopping. I don’t need clothes as expensive as theirs. But it’d be nice if I could at least blend in."

"You worry too much."

"Easy for you to say; at least you have great looks. I can only use clothes and accessories to look good."

The two grabbed their food and sat down at an empty table. A few minutes later, while Zac was eating, Marty suddenly nudged him in the side.

"What?"

Marty lowered his voice. "Don’t look imdiately, slowly look towards your right on the fourth table."

Zac looked at the table but didn’t find anything noticeable other than all of them being the sa age. "I don’t see any abnormalities."

"Look at the blue shirt guy."

Zac looked once more. "Why does he seem familiar?"

"Can’t you really tell? He is Mark Ritchie Peter’s elder brother."

"Should we kill him?"

"What?"

"Did you forget he sent killers after us?"

"Do you see how many people are surrounding him? They’re all his classmates from the sa academy. anwhile, we’re just two guys who awakened a few weeks ago."

"No matter how you look at it, getting involved is a death wish. Let’s just go back to our room and stay there until the ship reaches the Central City."

Before Zac could respond, Marty grabbed his arm and started dragging him out of the dining hall.

The two returned to their room on the third floor.

The room itself was surprisingly spacious. The mont Zac entered, he looked around in amazent. "I could fit another five people in here."

[It would be even better if all five of them were won?]

"I don’t have the strength to argue with you right now. Good night." Zac threw himself onto the bed and slept almost instantly.

***

It was an ordinary day in llow City, at least it appeared to be.

"Mom, I’m bored." Carrie lay sprawled across the living room couch.

"And what exactly do you want to do about that?" Martha asked.

"I don’t know."

"Can we do sothing?"

"Like what?"

"Anything."

Martha looked at her daughter for a mont.

"Go study. You’ll fall asleep automatically."

Carrie stared at her. "You are not fun at all, Mom." With an annoyed huff, she marched toward her room.

The mont the door closed, Martha’s expression completely changed, and the warmth in her eyes was replaced with killing intent.

Without making a sound, she locked Carrie’s room and stepped out of the house.

She saw four n dressed in black coats entering the gate with weapons hanging at their sides.

However, before they could take more than a few steps... A spark of crimson fla shot through the air from an unknown direction.

It attached itself to all four of the n. Not even giving them ti to scream, flas suddenly erupted around their bodies, and within seconds, their bodies were reduced to ash.

At that mont, a figure silently appeared from the opposite side of the street and started walking toward the house.

She slowly approached Martha. "Good day, ma’am."

"Good day." Martha looked at her for a mont. "Though this may sound rude, I don’t think I know who you are."

"My na is Lima." Lima straightened her posture slightly. "I’m the new chief of the llow City Variant Association."

"Oh." A faint smile slowly ford on her lips. "So you’re the one."

Lima blinked in confusion. "The one?"

"The reason Zac has been visiting the association every single day."

Lima’s composure instantly cracked and a faint blush appeared on her face. "T-That’s not..."

Seeing her all embarrassed and flustered, Martha’s smile only widened. "I see."

Lima suddenly felt that explaining herself would only make things worse. Fortunately, Martha decided to spare her.

"Please, co in."

"Thank you."

Lima followed Martha toward the house.

As she stepped through the doorway, she couldn’t help but wonder whether facing four ard intruders had actually been easier than this conversation.
