Chapter 108 - Capable of Being Perfunctory
Chen Ran got up very early today.
After casually washing up, he put on a tracksuit and went downstairs to run a few laps around the building.
Last ti he was mocked by Chen Yao that he should exercise, although he hadn't said anything, he also felt that his physical condition was a bit lacking.
Several tis he had said he would exercise, but in the end, it always turned into "starting tomorrow."
This ti he had made up his mind to properly persist; he was still young, and it wouldn't be good to let his body fall into a sub-healthy state.
Going to the gym was impossible, but a morning run was still doable.
He hadn't felt it when he didn't run before, but after running, he realized it wasn't as tiring as he had imagined. On the contrary, his energy was much better than when he first got out of bed.
Today was the first day of work after the New Year, but there were quite a few people around.
Walking along the way, Chen Ran t quite a few people who all greeted him.
He hadn't been at the entertainnt channel for very long, but his interpersonal relationships weren't bad.
After all, everyone would be happy to interact with soone who was good-looking, excelled at work, and had a pretty good temper.
Furthermore, Chen Ran had won an award at the annual eting. He was considered the first person in a long ti to win the Best Planner award from the hands of the satellite TV channel while being stationed at a local channel, so everyone was even friendlier to him.
Lin Fan greeted Chen Ran. Seeing the constant smile hanging on his face, he couldn't help but say, "You look quite happy today. Could it be that a joyous occasion is approaching?"
Chen Ran shot him a glance. What kind of question was that? He smiled and said, "It's the middle of the New Year, who isn't happy?"
Lin Fan didn't speak, but he felt that Chen Ran's happiness was clearly different from theirs. He didn't dwell on this either, but instead asked:
"Regarding that late-night slot for the satellite TV channel, do you have any ideas for the program yet?"
Chen Ran said, "I'm still researching it for the ti being. But there hasn't been any word coming down from the higher-ups yet, so there's no rush for now."
Up until now, everything he heard was just hearsay. Even Director Yang Qijun hadn't explicitly stated anything.
A late-night slot, but there was no explanation on which day of the week it was. For a small production, how much funding would be provided?
These were all reasons why Chen Ran couldn't make a decision. Right now, he could only look at the materials and establish backup options in his mind. To truly confirm what program to do, he still had to wait for the station's notice.
The two chatted casually for a while. When it was ti for the eting, they saw Director Liu, who looked quite energetic.
Director Liu Xianlong had been a bit unlucky last year, getting saddled with the Fang Qingying incident.
But he could also be considered lucky, because the channel produced two quite popular programs; it could be considered a mix of fortune and misfortune.
Today, on the first day of work in the new year, he had dyed his hair black precisely to welco the new year.
They all say the new year brings a new atmosphere; he was literally starting fresh from the top of his head.
Director Liu first wished everyone a Happy Spring Festival, and only then got to the main topic, ntioning the viewership ratings of the programs broadcast during these three days of the Spring Festival.
I Love Rembering Lyrics and Challenge the Microphone had perfectly missed this period.
However, when they were recording initially, they had recorded a Spring Festival Carnival Edition, so they were just waiting for it to be broadcast tomorrow to see the effect.
These past two days, all the satellite TV channels had been showing off their prowess. Their respective Spring Festival Galas dazzled the eyes; the programs were more spectacular than the last, and the invited celebrities were bigger nas than the last.
With the bombardnt of such spectacular, competing programs, there weren't many people willing to watch their local channel, so the viewership ratings naturally dropped severely.
This was considered standard operation. Director Liu Xianlong only ntioned it in passing and didn't emphasize it; it couldn't be blad on problems with the programs.
Subsequently, they talked about the tropolitan channel's upcoming revamp.
In the past, the entertainnt channel and the tropolitan channel ran neck and neck, unable to widen the gap.
But in these past two months, the entertainnt channel's viewership ratings had skyrocketed, becoming a unique tier just below the satellite TV channel—a whole level higher than the tropolitan channel.
Although the tropolitan channel's revamp didn't have much to do with this, they couldn't be underestimated either. There was a lot of careful thought put into their program arrangents.
Moreover, it was heard that a new "killer weapon" program was in preparation. That program crew hadn't even taken a holiday during the New Year, wanting to produce it as quickly as possible.
Director Liu Xianlong talked about these things because he wanted everyone not to slack off, to do their programs well, and to strive to push the viewership share to an even higher level.
Actually, when speaking about the tropolitan channel's new program, Director Liu specifically cast a glance at Chen Ran. He also knew that the tropolitan channel's program proposal was written by Chen Ran.
If it were ordinary tis, he might not have paid so much attention. With so many local channels, everyone had new programs to produce from ti to ti. Having a lot of hype was useless; the key was the viewership ratings.
But the proposal was written by Chen Ran, so he truly felt a bit apprehensive.
For anyone who knew Chen Ran's resu and carefully counted, every program he had been involved with had beco a massive hit.
The audience pool for the local channels was only this big. If this new program turned out to be too good, what they would be snatching away when the ti ca was the entertainnt channel's viewership share.
Director Liu didn't have any intention of blaming Chen Ran; after all, this was an order handed down by the Director-General. He just felt that this guy was quite formidable.
The tropolitan channel had plenty of capable people, yet their director didn't look for his own staff but instead ca looking for Chen Ran. Just how highly did he regard him?
Soone won the Best Planner award every year, but you never saw their channel going to ask them for help.
The biggest possibility was because Chen Ran was situated in a local channel, had single-handedly completed the core planning for several programs, and all of them had beco massive hits.
Director Liu sotis thought that if Chen Ran stayed in the entertainnt channel permanently, with his abilities, he would definitely push the entertainnt channel to a higher level.
But this was impossible. No matter how good the entertainnt channel was, it was ultimately just a local station; the pond was too small.
Director Liu pulled back his thoughts and announced the dismissal of the eting.
As everyone was about to leave, he wanted to find Chen Ran for a chat to inquire about the news regarding the tropolitan channel's new program.
Initially, the program proposal was given directly to the Director-General, so he didn't know about it.
However, after hesitating for a mont, he still gave up on the idea.
Calling Chen Ran over now might give him psychological pressure, making him think that he had an issue with him here.
Anyway, he could find out just by asking around himself; during the New Year, he shouldn't add to people's distress.
……
Afternoon.
Lin Fan looked at Chen Ran strangely and asked, "Do you have so urgent matter today?"
Chen Ran was taken aback and said, "No, why do you ask?"
Lin Fan said, "Just in this past half hour, you've looked up at the ti so many tis."
There was a clock in the room hanging right on the wall. Chen Ran's head movents were quite large, and Lin Fan wasn't blind, so naturally, he could see it.
He just felt quite curious. Usually, Chen Ran was very focused when working and rarely looked up at the ti, so today was quite strange.
Chen Ran also realized it. Feeling slightly awkward, he spouted nonsense:
"I am researching why it is that when a person stares at a clock, they feel ti passes very slowly, but when they aren't paying attention, it passes very quickly."
Lin Fan chuckled, "Actually, I'm also doing research. When the refrigerator is opened, the light is on, but before it's opened, is the refrigerator's light actually on or off?"
Chen Ran was dumbfounded: "What's the point of this research of yours?"
Lin Fan chuckled and said, "It has no point, but it's capable of being perfunctory with people."
Chen Ran finally understood; this guy was mocking him. He was just about to banter a bit more with Lin Fan when his phone rang.
"I'm getting off work first, you continue researching how to be perfunctory with people." Chen Ran waved his hand at Lin Fan and hurriedly ran off.
Leaving only Lin Fan standing there, looking at Chen Ran's retreating back with a dumbfounded face.
