Chapter 102:

Carlos’s Point of View

I repeated her word with a tone full of wonder, while my features reflected a feigned confusion:

"Randomly?"

I sat up on her bed, resting my palms behind my back as I watched her beautiful confusion, and continued confidently:

"Never... I choose my friends with extre care, and by standards that not many can pass."

Julie raised her eyebrows defiantly, crossing her arms over her chest in an offensive stance:

"You say you are my friend yet you don’t know , and I don’t know anything about you."

I smiled, feeling a desire to break this deadlock between us. I began listing facts, counting them slowly on my fingers:

"My na is Carlos... I am forty years old... xican by origin and heart, I love all spicy xican food... a businessman, unmarried, and I have no children."

Her gaze fixed on in wonder, as if she were expecting sothing more mysterious or terrifying, then suddenly... her laughter broke out.

My God, that laugh had the effect of magic; it made her facial features light up in a way that made forget everything I was thinking about.

She said, trying to regain her composure amidst her laughter:

"I think you forgot to say that you are a doctor!"

My eyes glead with playfulness, and I said to her jokingly as I touched my cheek which still carried the ghost of the slap:

"Yes... you even slapped my face hard! don’t you see that our relationship has beco very solid through this act?"

She stopped laughing for a mont, shot a rebellious young look, and said in a tone that still carried remnants of her old resentnt:

"You completely deserved that slap."

Julie tilted her head to the side, narrowing her eyes as she watched my playful features, so I said in a calm tone tinged with dismissal:

"A small kiss on your cheek... it isn’t a big deal that justifies all this explosion."

Her body stiffened imdiately, and she took a single step toward , pointing her finger firmly in my face:

"Don’t ever do it again... never!"

Her threatening words only increased my desire to provoke her further; a wide smile ford on my lips as I contemplated her short stature compared to mine, and I asked her cunningly while leaning my body slightly toward her:

"And what will you do if I do? Will you kill , for example?"

Julie pointed sharply toward the door and said in a commanding tone:

"That’s enough... get out of my room now, your girl is waiting for you upstairs."

I didn’t move from my spot; instead, I reclined in a more relaxed position on her bed, interlacing my hands behind my head, saying with provocative coolness:

"I don’t feel like leaving... I enjoy sitting here."

Features of confusion and bewildernt appeared on her face, and she stepped forward, exclaiming:

"Your girl is upstairs! Co on, get up!"

I ignored her words completely and half-closed my eyes, watching her reaction.

Her eyes narrowed with anger, and she said threateningly:

"Do you want to ask the dog ’Axel’ to attack you?"

I didn’t miss the tone of the threat, so I raised my eyebrow and pointed with my hand toward my back where my weapon was hidden:

"Did you forget? I have a gun... and your little friend won’t stand a chance against ."

Her eyes ignited with pique, and she knitted her brows with sheer rage.

She rushed toward the bed with quick, erratic steps as if she intended to pull by force, but her balance suddenly failed when her foot caught the edge of the rug.

She gasped sharply as she tried to clutch the air, falling with her body directly over .

In a single second, I felt the weight of her small body collide with my bare chest, and her disturbed breath hit my neck.

My hands, which were behind my head, stiffened, and I felt her racing heartbeat as she tried to process what had happened, while her hands were dug into my shoulders to prevent herself from fully crashing into my face.

Our eyes t at that critical mont, and I felt my breath catching fire inside my chest.

The distance between us had completely vanished, and my desire to kiss her right now almost spiraled out of control, but I remained frozen, watching her dilating pupils and her obvious confusion.

Julie startled and got off quickly as if she had touched burning coals.

I straightened up and got off the bed, catching a glimpse of the redness of her cheek that stained her face with a deep crimson color.

She said in a broken voice, pointing weakly toward the door:

"You... you have to leave now."

I took a deep breath, trying to calm my heartbeat, and said in a low voice:

"Alright... goodnight, Julie."

She rely nodded her head without daring to look into my eyes again.

I left the room feeling a strange heaviness in my steps; how I wished at that mont that I could stay with her and never leave her.

I went upstairs and bumped into Robert, who was standing there with his usual coldness.

He shot a scrutinizing look and asked:

"Carlos? What are you doing here? Didn’t you like Luna?"

I answered him briefly as I bypassed him:

"I’ll take my jacket from the room and leave."

Robert stopped and knitted his brows in surprise:

"What? And what were you doing downstairs anyway? And why do you want to leave now?"

I said as I headed toward the room with heavy steps:

"Long story, Robert."

I opened the room door, and Luna, who was still waiting, greeted .

She had discarded every piece of her clothing and lay on the bed completely naked in a final attempt to seduce , saying in a tone full of coquetry:

"You finally ca..."

I stepped toward the table and picked up my jacket without batting an eyelid, and said with a lethal coldness:

"I’ve lost my desire."

Luna’s body froze in its place, and her smile disappeared to be replaced by total shock.

I left her behind and exited the room to find Robert still standing at his office door, watching my quick exit.

He asked in a tone that carried deep-seated suspicion:

"Is there a problem, Carlos?"

I stopped in front of him and looked at him directly before saying with a painful honesty:

"Julie... she knocked on the room door while I was with Luna, and asked to go with her to her room imdiately."
