Considering Heloise was currently in the White Star District, Ronald had made an early start that day.
He even skipped lunch, boarding a carriage from the Cathedral District to the location of his new job.
The carriage traveled through the city.
After passing through three central districts, it finally stopped in the White Star District at one o’clock.
After paying the fare and leaving the carriage, Ronald looked around this district he rarely visited and shook his head subconsciously, "It’s going to be troubleso if it’s this far away."
On the surface, there was no difference between the White Star District and the other districts.
The sa street layouts and architectural features, people from all walks of life coming and going, and one could even clearly sll the sea breeze blowing from the setting sun ocean.
If one had to point out a difference...
It would probably be that the smiles on people’s faces on the streets here were more natural, at least it seed they were in a good mood.
Moreover, Ronald had traversed almost two-thirds of the entire length of Springs on his way from the Cathedral District.
And even if he were to return to the Riverside District where he lived, the journey would far exceed a post-dinner walk’s distance. If he wanted to save on carriage fares, it would be more economical to commute to the White Star District with Heloise in the future.
"Sir, is this your first ti in the White Star District? Do you need an affordable and useful guide?"
As Ronald pondered these trivial matters, a little boy, wearing yellowed clothes and a chest plate with goods, ca up enthusiastically seeking a job.
"I work here, thank you."
Ronald bought a box of cigarettes from the boy and then headed for the office building in front of him.
The White Star District’s Chamber of Comrce residence was different from the headquarters in the comrcial zone.
Apart from a stand-alone building facing the street, there was no backyard garden nor a significantly sized office.
If it had to be said, this building was only the size of a regular office, mainly responsible for so relatively simple tasks in the White Star District. If not for certain matters, the Chamber would not have arranged for Ronald to co here.
Headquarters had probably advised in advance of Ronald’s arrival here.
As soon as he entered the large hall, which served both as a reception desk and the front office area on the first floor, a staff mber quickly ca up to lead Ronald to his office on the second floor of the Chamber’s office.
"Mr. Ronald, we have already inford Miss Philis about the matters here, you just need to get to know her."
After a few brief words, the man who had led Ronald upstairs entered the office first, then with considerable earnestness, he called out loudly, "Miss Philis, I’ve brought your master over, do you have any further instructions?"
Was he trying to curry favor with Heloise?
"You’ve finally arrived!" Just as Ronald realized the man’s intention, Heloise burst out of the office with full montum, crashing into his embrace, and even said affectionately, "You’re so slow, I was really bored by myself here!"
...
This left the man who had been offering his attentions speechless.
He glanced at Heloise in Ronald’s arms, then took another long look at Ronald’s young and handso face. Finally, his mouth moving but making no sound, he turned his head and went downstairs without looking back, only then his voice ca from the head of the stairs,
"If the two of you need anything, just let us know..."
On the second floor, Ronald watched the figure disappear down the stairway, then pulled Heloise into the office. The first thing he saw was the office desk by the window, besides that there was a long coffee table in the middle of the room, and sofas for receiving guests on both sides.
Although the office was moderately sized, given the overall size of this branch office, it could also be called a luxury office.
While surveying his new workplace, Ronald also asked Heloise about the reaction of the employee just now:
"That young man’s reaction was a bit exaggerated, did you do sothing to him?"
"Not at all," Heloise said with a slight smile, then boldly jumped onto the desk to sit, casually flicking her waist chain out of the way before she spoke again, "Ronald, you’ve t too many beautiful girls."
"Let’s not even ntion that Nicole from Springs, Nicholas is also a beauty far above the standard. Don’t underestimate the power of this face."
"..."
"That’s also true, it’s indeed quite useful."
Ronald thought about the difference between his face in his past life and now, and then he couldn’t help but nod in agreent with Heloise’s statent. However, as the conversation reached this point, Heloise’s expression turned subtle.
"Ah, it’s only to this extent, though."
"A good appearance can bring benefits in many small ways, but when it cos to truly important matters, it may actually beco an obstacle, sotis it’s quite a headache."
Ronald looked at her with an expression that said ’a full belly does not understand the pangs of hunger’:
"You say that to soone else, and you’re sure to get hit."
"Just be gentle when you hit," Heloise said with a shrug and a smile.
After chatting for a bit, Heloise bent down to take out a docunt from under the desk and handed it to Ronald straightforwardly.
"Take a look, this is our job here."
"This?"
Taking the docunt from Heloise’s hand, Ronald began to read it carefully.
Heloise, who had rushed over early in the morning, obviously wasn’t just here to kill ti. The docunt she handed over had already been stripped of useless parts, leaving only a summary of the neatly organized work content. For parts that were difficult to understand, Heloise had also made relevant annotations.
After looking through the stack of docunts, Ronald couldn’t help but think of Karin at the guild headquarters.
Heloise’s office skills were definitely no less than that of the elite assistant trained by the Gingko Leaf.
As for their work...
In reality, the tasks were very simple, which was to handle so disputes involving the mystical side. Due to the directives issued by governnt departnts, the number of civilians involved in Springs’ mystical side was being compressed.
In response to the call, the Gingko Leaf had to take action as well.
As the personnel who were originally stationed in this office had been transferred away for this reason just a few days ago, Ronald’s arrival was quite natural.
Just as Ronald finished reading the docunt, Heloise jumped down from the desk and approached him:
"Ronald, I rember you don’t smoke, right?"
"No, I don’t. I bought this just now from a kid on the street."
Getting this response, Heloise frowned and pulled out the cigarettes from Ronald’s pocket. She first sniffed the aroma on the cigarette box, and then opened the box to look more closely.
Snap—
Imdiately after, Heloise crushed the cigarettes in her hand into a ball.
Then she threw it directly out of the window behind the desk.
"Is this a technique of the Polkes? Have they co too?"
