Now reading: Chapter 87 87: The Attendant's Awakening [2] from Naruto: The Will of Fire (Rated M), a Action novel by evilUchiha.

The rest of the evening went exactly as the script demanded.

Despite my smooth talking, Naruto couldn't keep his mouth shut. He challenged Tsunade to a fight outside the bar. Tsunade, naturally, completely dismantled him with a single finger. But Naruto, being the stubborn protagonist he was, pulled out a half-ford Rasengan.

That got her attention.

The legendary bet was struck. One week for Naruto to master the A-Rank jutsu. If he won, he got her prized First Hokage necklace. If he lost, well, she got all the money in his frog wallet.

After that, the adrenaline faded, the sake took its toll, and everyone retreated to their respective inn rooms to pass out.

The Next Morning

"This is impossible! It just swirls around and does nothing!"

Naruto was sitting cross-legged on the floor of our room, furiously glaring at a stubborn, un-popped water balloon. His hands were shaking from exhaustion.

"Keep spinning, whiskers," I said from the window, adjusting the cuffs of my crisp, dark shirt. "Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent popping cheap rubber."

Jiraiya slid the door open, looking thoroughly refreshed and entirely too eager for the day. He had his massive scroll on his back and a creepy, excited grin on his face.

"Alright, Kenji!" Jiraiya clapped his hands together. "The local hot springs open in ten minutes! Are you ready to accompany your master on a glorious expedition of literary research?"

"I'll pass, Ero-Sennin," I sighed, waving him off. "I have zero interest in getting caught in a won's bath by a rogue kunoichi. Besides, I have my own objectives today."

"Suit yourself! More scenery for !" Jiraiya laughed, bolting out the door with terrifying speed.

I shook my head, grabbing an apple from my inventory and tossing it into the air. "Alright, System. Ti to work on the side-quest."

[The Market District]

It didn't take long to find her with my [Observation Haki].

Shizune was standing in front of a small, sowhat dingy produce stall. She was holding Tonton under one arm, looking incredibly haggard. There were dark circles under her eyes. In her free hand, she held a small, pathetic-looking coin purse, counting the few Ryo coins inside with a look of pure, unadulterated despair.

"Just the cabbage and the cheap tofu, please," Shizune sighed heavily, handing the ager coins to the rchant. "Tsunade-sama drank the rest of our budget last night..."

"Put the cabbage back," a smooth voice said from behind her.

Shizune jumped, spinning around so fast Tonton let out a surprised squeak.

I stood there, flashing her an easy, warm smile. I stepped right past her, leaning over the rchant's counter, and placed a pristine, high-denomination gold Ryo note on the wood.

"Give the lady your absolute premium cuts of pork, the freshest vegetables you have, and a large box of those high-end sweet dumplings," I instructed the rchant. The man's eyes bulged at the gold note. He imdiately bowed and scrambled to fill the order.

"K-Kenji-kun!" Shizune stamred, her face instantly turning pink as she recognized . "You... you don't have to do that! You already paid off fifty thousand Ryo for us yesterday! I can't let you buy our groceries too!"

"And I told you yesterday, Shizune-san," I stepped closer, my voice dropping to that hypnotic, intimate timber that made people instinctively lean in. "You spend your entire life taking care of Tsunade. Who takes care of you?"

Her breath hitched. She looked up at , her dark eyes wide and completely disard.

[Active Skill: Pheromone Release - Low Output.]

I didn't want to overwhelm her and turn her into a mindless puddle like the hostesses. I just wanted to lower her defenses. To make her feel warm, safe, and deeply appreciated.

I reached out and gently took the heavy, overflowing grocery bags from the rchant before she could even try to grab them.

"Let carry these," I insisted, gesturing for her to walk with down the street. "You look like you're carrying the weight of the entire Elental Nations on your shoulders. Let take the pork, at least."

Shizune walked beside , clutching Tonton nervously to her chest. "I... thank you. Honestly. I'm just not used to people noticing. Usually, everyone just wants to talk to Tsunade-sama. They want her to heal them, or they want her to fight... they never really see ."

"Then they are entirely blind," I said simply.

We stopped near a quiet park bench overlooking a small, serene koi pond. I set the groceries down and motioned for her to sit. She hesitated for a fraction of a second, then sat down, setting the pig on the grass to graze.

I sat right next to her. I didn't leave a polite gap. I deliberately closed the distance so our thighs were practically touching. The faint, intoxicating scent of my pheromones washed over her, making her cheeks flush a much deeper red.

"Tsunade is a legend," I said softly, looking out at the water. "But legends are hard to touch. They're chaotic, destructive, and usually pretty selfish. But you... you're grounded. You're fiercely loyal, incredibly capable, and..."

I turned my head, locking my eyes with hers, letting the [Sexual Aura] bleed through just enough to make the air between us crackle. "...you are stunningly beautiful when you aren't stressing over casino debts."

Shizune's entire face went crimson. She ducked her head, her fingers playing nervously with the hem of her dark kimono. "You're... you're teasing . You shouldn't say things like that, Kenji-kun. You're just a kid."

"Am I?" I murmured, leaning in closer. "My body might be young right now, Shizune, but my mind is much, much older than you think."

To prove my point, I casually slid my right arm along the back of the park bench behind her. My hand didn't stay on the wood. It dropped dishonestly, my fingers resting firmly on the curve of her lower waist.

Shizune gasped softly, her spine stiffening at the sudden, incredibly bold contact.

But she didn't pull away. She couldn't.

I slowly slid my hand lower, my palm deliberately pressing against the swell of her rear over the fabric of her kimono. I gave the soft flesh a firm, proprietary squeeze.

[Passive Skill: Golden Finger - Activated.]

A jolt of pure, electrifying euphoria shot straight from my fingertips into her nervous system. Shizune let out a tiny, breathless whimper, her dark eyes fluttering shut for a second. Her entire body lted against , a sudden, heavy warmth pooling between her thighs.

Her brain was completely short-circuiting. It felt so wrong—he was just twelve! But the way he spoke, the absolute dominance in his gaze, the terrifyingly experienced way his hand was currently mapping the curves of her body... it didn't feel like a child. It felt like a man who knew exactly what he wanted.

For the first ti in over a decade, Shizune didn't feel like an assistant, a dic, or a babysitter. Sitting on that bench, under his heavy gaze and wandering hand, she felt intensely, undeniably like a woman. Bubbling, shy, and entirely desired.

"You are absolutely shaless," she whispered, her voice trembling, her face burning so hot it could probably boil water.

"It's my defining character trait," I agreed smoothly, my thumb tracing a lazy circle over her hip. I reached up with my free hand, my fingers gently brushing a stray lock of dark hair behind her ear.

"Kenji..." she breathed, completely caught in my gravity, looking at my lips.

"Take the sweet dumplings, Shizune," I whispered, pulling my hand back from her face. "Eat them yourself. Don't give a single one to Tsunade. Do sothing purely for yourself today."

I stood up, leaving the heavy groceries on the bench next to her. She looked up at , clearly dazed by the sudden loss of contact.

I gave her one last, devastatingly charming smile. But before I stepped away, I reached out and delivered a sharp, firm smack right onto her ass.

SLAP.

"Ah!" Shizune yelped, her hands flying to her rear, her eyes widening in absolute shock and embarrassnt as she looked around to see if anyone had seen.

"I'll see you around, Shizune-san," I winked at her. "Tell the Princess not to do anything stupid."

I turned and walked away, my hands stuffed casually in my pockets, leaving the dark-haired kunoichi sitting on the bench, completely flustered, her heart hamring against her ribs, and her entire worldview completely scrambled.

[Mission 2 Progress: The Attendant's Awakening.]

[Shizune's Favorability: 50. She feels seen, valued, and incredibly flustered.]

[Status: She is currently questioning her entire professional dynamic and moral compass.]

I checked my system screen as I rounded the corner, completely out of her sight, biting into my apple.

"Too easy," I chuckled, savoring the crisp taste.

I had secured the assistant. Now ca the hard part.

"So," I muttered to myself, looking up at the bright blue sky. "How exactly do I cure a legendary Sannin's crippling phobia of blood without accidentally getting myself punched into the stratosphere?"
