There is no such thing as "morning" in the Shelter.

But Charon never had to worry about losing track of ti either–the Shelter's clock was absolutely accurate. If you had an 8 a.m. class to attend, the alarm would echo through the entire Shelter unless you woke up and stopped it with a properly pronounced voice command.

Of course, this feature was practically useless to Charon. He never cut corners on sleep–if he wanted to sleep, he slept as long as he liked. He may have lost his personal freedom, but at least in this regard, he was still free.

The Shelter never forced him to do anything. It only placed choices in front of him; whether he acted on them or not was entirely up to Charon.

If he wanted to slack off, he could simply scavenge a little money in Zone Zero every day and live carefree for the rest of his life without even needing to fight seriously.

But if he wanted to grow stronger and take on greater challenges, then he could stay busy enough that his feet never touched the ground.

Charon chose the latter. If the sudden appearance of Disguise Mode had never happened, then in one or two years, once money beca aningless from having too much of it, he probably would've turned into a shut-in lying around the Shelter in every possible position.

The appearance of Disguise Mode finally brought change to the otherwise stagnant Zone Zero. The first major change was the appearance of Zone One. Although the map was bizarre and terrifying, it undeniably carried a refreshing sense of novelty that caught his attention. If nothing unexpected happened, he would probably spend a very long ti exploring Zone One from now on.

Clearly, the hidden mission [Backworld Invasion] was the main storyline of this map. During his knife-run, Charon had accidentally completed one part of it, and it was only a matter of ti before he dealt with the remaining three.

Finally, Ana's arrival had sohow caused two new rooms to appear inside the once-unchanging Shelter. The implication was obvious. Even if he didn't yet know whether the two things were directly connected, at the very least it proved one thing:

The Shelter could change.

If he just laid around forever, then he would spend his entire life trapped inside this unchanging Shelter. And that would be boring.

Overall, Charon was extrely satisfied with the current situation. At the very least, he finally had sothing to look forward to.

"Mhm… ti to get up."

Charon rolled out of bed. The small bed on the other side of the room was already empty, with the blanket and pillow neatly folded. No matter how you looked at it, the child had clearly received an excellent upbringing.

Yes, he and Ana were currently sleeping in the sa room, but there wasn't much he could do about it. Any furniture purchased in the Shelter automatically appeared inside the room and couldn't be manually moved outside. The only thing Charon could change was the arrangent of the furniture.

Ana herself didn't mind. In fact, sleeping in the sa room as Charon gave her a strong sense of security. Even the previous night, when Charon had co back late, she stubbornly stayed awake reading storybooks despite being sleepy, insisting on waiting until he returned before going to sleep.

The impact that the Raptures, and Zone One, had on her was even deeper than he originally imagined.

Morning, however, was another matter entirely.

"Good morning, Mr. Charon."

Silver twin-tails swayed back and forth near the stove. Wearing a tiny apron, Ana stirred sothing inside a clay pot while occasionally glancing at the cookbook beside her.

"Please have a seat. It'll be ready soon."

By the third day after arriving at the Shelter, Ana had already taken over al preparation for the two of them. The reason was simple: Charon didn't really care about food as long as it tasted good.

So for her first al, he served her a double bacon cheeseburger.

Second al: spicy beef hotpot.

Third al: a cream-filled donut platter.

Little Ana was under imnse pressure. At least in her opinion, if this continued, things that shouldn't beco rounder would definitely start becoming rounder.

No, she absolutely could not allow Charon to keep preparing unhealthy als however he pleased.

And so, she buried herself in the Library, spending an entire day reading cookbooks before starting to reorganize the Shelter's al plans.

Although she used to be a pampered young lady who never touched housework, girls would often put unimaginable effort into maintaining their beauty.

When Ana requested to improve the als, Charon simply gave her a thumbs-up and let her do whatever she wanted.

If he still felt hungry, he could always buy extra food from the vending machine anyway. Wanting to take on so responsibilities was a good start for her.

Even though she probably wouldn't stay long, Ana would eventually return to her own tiline–Charon never intended to treat her rely as a guest.

There wasn't any deep reason behind it. It was simply the protective instinct of an adult toward a child. He didn't want Ana to feel like she was rely living under soone else's roof.

Even if their ti together was short, he still wanted her to spend it happily.

Today's breakfast was century egg and pork congee made by Ana herself. It tasted surprisingly good, and Charon drank three large bowls in one go, making Ana beam with happiness.

As a beginner cook, her dishes were simple, but being acknowledged still made her feel a little lightheaded with joy–especially because it was Charon praising her. It gave her even more motivation to study new recipes.

At first, she only wanted healthier als.

But after Charon's approving thumbs-up, the child's goals had subtly shifted in a different direction.

After breakfast, Ana cleaned up the kitchen and once again disappeared into the Library carrying a cookbook. Charon rarely read books himself, so the place had practically beco her personal paradise.

The bookshelves were enormous, so even several stories tall, but for Ana this was no problem at all. The Crystal Shoes allowed her to move through the Library like a fish in water. Without needing any tools, she could walk freely across every level of the towering shelves and retrieve whichever books she wanted.

Which was good.

Ana had her own things to do, while Charon casually entered Zone Zero once again and started another knife-run.

So people might ask why he wasn't going to Zone One instead.

Well, because Zone One was way too dangerous.

If Ana hadn't been there during his previous knife-run, forget earning five million, his chances of spawning in and imdiately dying would've been ridiculously high.

That place wasn't suitable for making money with knife-runs at all. It was a map built for fully-equipped assault maniacs to rampage through.

Knife-running in Zone Zero might've been boring, but at least the inco was stable. Besides, Charon currently had a short-term goal.

After returning from Zone One, he had idly checked the vending machine.

After all, so many new things had appeared, shouldn't the shop inventory update too?

And sure enough, he found sothing new.
