Nikke, something’s seriously wrong with this evacuation point! Chapter 99 99: I Want to Go See Him
The origins of the lee squad were known only to a very small circle of people. After all, the governnt itself wasn't united, and few cared about the situation of a tiny squad. It required little funding, so the project moved forward smoothly.
Perhaps people from other factions were already used to this kind of thing. As long as it wasn't brought into the spotlight, everyone maintained a tacit understanding: don't block my path, and I won't make trouble for you. Even political enemies wouldn't oppose each other in everything – that would be exhausting, and how could anyone enjoy life like that?
But clearly, Andersen intended to drag this issue into the spotlight – and he was doing it in front of everyone, even in front of Liliweiss herself.
And without any PPT at that. It was obvious this public attack had been prepared in advance.
With Liliweiss present, many things had to follow proper procedure, especially anything involving Nikkes.
Very quickly, Andersen laid out the full story of the squad, because in truth, the situation wasn't that complicated.
"I know the purpose of this eting is to discuss punishing the lee squad for beginning to use Rapture parts. But no one has ntioned why they were driven to that point in the first place."
Andersen's gaze fell upon a middle-aged man.
"If I rember correctly, the supply funds allocated to the lee squad were transferred to the account every single week. I checked just now – not a single credit was left."
"For a squad of only ten people, you still had to skim money off even that?"
"The Three Great Companies stated that while they did provide the quota, they never approved of using thods like this to raise a sixth Fairy Tale model. After all, treating PTSD also costs money."
At that mont, the middle-aged man's expression changed completely. His face instantly turned pale.
Everyone present imdiately understood what had happened: the corporations had abandoned him at lightning speed.
To say the Three Great Companies knew nothing would be ridiculous. But the initiative had indeed been led by this man. After all, if the thod succeeded, the sixth Fairy Tale model would beco a Nikke belonging to his faction, representing their interests. That would allow his political camp to secure more resources, whether for the Ark Project or the current political landscape.
Right now, the Goddess Squad was incredibly valuable. Among the current five mbers, aside from Liliweiss, nearly all carried so kind of political affiliation – even if the girls themselves were unaware of it.
As for the sixth unit, anyone could cooperate with her. There was no reason to antagonize Andersen over a re disposable pawn. After all, Andersen was one of the few people close enough to Liliweiss to actually speak with her.
At least until Liliweiss fell, Andersen was untouchable.
And with his own thods and background, even after her fall, he would still be able to secure a place for himself. He was absolutely not soone people wanted to offend.
Andersen himself had once considered it: if he had led the Goddess Squad in place of that bastard Caron, his position within the governnt would never have beco as stable as it was now. At the very least, several military giants currently stood on his side.
In the end, gaining sothing always ant losing sothing else.
"Next, let us discuss how to deal with the lee squad."
Under that topic, opinions imdiately split apart.
So argued that although the girls were victims, using Rapture parts already constituted betrayal, and therefore they should be granted a painless execution.
Others suggested bringing them back for research. After all, humanity's studies on compatibility with Rapture parts had progressed slowly, and these Nikkes had effectively already completed "fusion." They were perfect experintal material.
Others argued they should simply be abandoned. Nikkes compatible with Rapture parts were too dangerous. Though they had indeed earned military rit, rit and cris should cancel each other out. For humanity's safety, they could not be allowed near civilization. What if those Rapture parts could summon more Raptures?
And then…
They started arguing.
Though these people were high-ranking officials, once emotions flared, they looked ready to start an unrestricted fistfight right inside the conference room.
After all, with the military behind Andersen now involved, the political side could no longer handle things casually. Ironically, that made them begin discussing the matter seriously and objectively.
Which, in itself, was rather tragic.
"Um, may I say sothing?"
At that mont, Liliweiss's voice, though soft, echoed clearly through every corner of the room.
Instantly, the noisy conference room fell silent, just like a classroom when the horoom teacher walked past.
"Hehe, thank you, everyone."
Liliweiss stood up and walked to the front, giving Andersen a look that clearly told him to move aside.
"Uh, well, I–"
"Hm?" Liliweiss tilted her head slightly.
"Understood."
Andersen surrendered imdiately and retreated to the side like a loyal lackey.
Honestly, there were probably enough people who wanted to beco Liliweiss's lackey to circle the city once. Others could only dream of it.
"I'm very interested in those children, so the Goddess Squad has decided to take over responsibility for handling them."
Liliweiss smiled warmly, like a kind older sister next door.
"I've said my piece. Who approves? Who objects?"
Andersen had just opened his mouth when Liliweiss shot him a sideways glance, and he imdiately deflated like a punctured ball.
The entire room stayed silent as chickens.
Who would dare object?
"Then let's vote."
As soon as she spoke, the voting devices were hurriedly prepared. So people moved astonishingly fast, eager to cooperate with the great Goddess of Victory.
In the end, the proposal passed unanimously.
"Well then, thank you all for your cooperation. I'll be leaving first."
Liliweiss headed toward the door.
"Uh… today's eting ends here, then. Dismissed."
Seeing there was no way the eting could continue, Andersen hastily wrapped things up and quickly chased after her.
No one in the conference room cared anymore.
"Major Liliweiss!"
He caught up to her after several quick steps, stopping roughly three ters behind her.
"You've gone back there again recently, haven't you?"
Where exactly? Both of them understood without saying it aloud.
"Yes. I already t that girl from the lee squad – Rose. She's a good child."
"Then… are you planning to personally handle this matter?"
"Is there a problem?"
"Your dical examination…"
"I'll go."
Liliweiss smiled faintly.
"I know there are people hoping I can live a little longer… Don't worry. I'll leave this matter to Dorothy and the others."
"After all, even after I'm gone, the Goddess Squad will continue to exist. That child Dorothy is the successor I personally acknowledge. Trust in her abilities."
She looked toward Andersen.
"When the ti cos, I hope you'll help support them a little."
"Can you really accept this?" Andersen asked quietly.
"I can't."
Liliweiss's gaze passed through the wall, staring into so distant void. A faint tenderness appeared in her eyes.
"But… I want to go see him."
"They didn't leave from the sa place. Perhaps… they'd still feel lonely."
"..."
Watching Liliweiss's departing figure, Andersen found himself unable to say a single word.
Of his three friends, perhaps not one of them would remain.
And that…
That truly hurt.
