There was a mont of obvious astonishnt in Asher Land’s eyes, and Sophie Smith realized that what she just said might have been a bit cheesy. She lowered her head, her eyes turning red.
"Co here," he said gently.
Sophie didn’t know what he wanted to do, but she dutifully walked over.
He lay on the hospital bed and made a gesture with his hand, indicating for her to co closer.
Sophie complied, bending down until she was just inches away from him.
His lips moved close to her ear, secretive and mysterious.
"What are you doing?" she asked. Just as she was about to pull away, he grasped her hand.
"Don’t move around, or the wound might reopen!"
She still rembered the last ti he took over ten lashes from Nathan Land, suffering painfully every night. Now, he had been stabbed in the shoulder, and she knew he would have to endure the pain again.
"Do you know? Hearing you say that makes very happy. Sophie, eting you is my greatest luck."
Before, he had always arrogantly believed he could give her everything she wanted, thinking himself to be her good fortune. But now he realized that eting her was his greatest luck in life.
He slightly lifted his head, kissing her delicate face that was only a few centiters away.
Sophie had her hands on the edge of the bed, responding to him.
But being bent over like this for so long was tiring, so she straightened up, her rosy lips leaving his.
"Have you kissed enough?" Sophie shook her head helplessly, then stood properly beside him. "What do you want to eat? I’ll call Nanny Garcia to bring sothing over."
"Anything," he replied.
Sophie acknowledged and walked out. She needed to instruct Nanny Garcia carefully to make dishes that Asher Land liked.
As soon as Sophie left, Asher’s phone rang. He struggled to extend his hand, grabbed the phone, and pressed the answer button.
"President Land, what should we do about Miss Smith’s father?" Robert Williams asked.
"Release him." He endured this willingly and had nothing to say.
"But, President Land..."
"No more nonsense. If I find out anyone troubles him privately, you’ll deal with it yourselves. I won’t be soft-handed."
Robert Williams was loyal to his master, but Asher Land’s stance was clear now. Christopher Smith could not be touched; after all, he was Sophie Smith’s father.
Robert Williams sighed over the phone. Sophie’s presence had truly transford Asher Land into another person entirely.
In no ti, Sophie walked back in. Without a word, Asher hung up the phone.
"I talked to Nanny Garcia. She’s preparing all your favorite dishes, but it will take over an hour."
"That’s alright," Asher was unconcerned. "Co sit with and chat."
"About what?"
"Anything."
"..."
Asher said nothing, just gazed at her quietly. Sophie racked her brains, not knowing what topic to bring up at this ti.
However, there was sothing she wanted to tell him, even if now might not seem the right mont.
"Asher Land, I’m pregnant."
Initially, he didn’t react. He probably paused for about three seconds before he suddenly realized.
"Say that again?"
She couldn’t discern his thoughts now, nor could she read anything from his expression.
Was it a mistake to tell him this news? Perhaps he didn’t want a child at all.
"I’m pregnant, almost two months now. I found out the last ti you returned from Europe."
