Asher Land wasn’t around, being in the sa house with Irene Morton made Sophie Smith feel an indescribable annoyance.
Under Irene Morton’s gaze, which seed as if she wished to tear Sophie to pieces, she resolutely walked out.
The Land Family’s old mansion was ridiculously huge, with so buildings looking identical, leaving people confused. In the few days she had been here, she had always followed Asher Land’s lead and never bothered to rember any routes. Now, trying to take a break, she embarrassingly got lost.
Anyway, she didn’t want to return to the East Garden now. When Asher Land returned, he would naturally call her, so she found a quiet garden and sat on a bench.
The last bit of light in the sky disappeared, yet Asher Land still hadn’t called her. Perhaps Nathan Land wasn’t letting him leave.
"Miss Sophie."
A sowhat familiar voice caught her attention. She turned around in surprise to see Oscar Land pushing a wheelchair towards her.
Without much thought, she stood up and went over to help push the wheelchair.
"Thank you." Oscar Land looked up, a faint smile on his lips.
"It’s no problem." Sophie Smith also smiled calmly.
Oscar Land tapped the garden bench with his distinctively jointed fingers, signaling her to sit.
"Why haven’t I seen Asher?"
"Oh, his father called him for sothing..."
"Probably to discuss his engagent with Irene."
Sophie’s expression turned stiff. Everyone in this family, intentionally or not, never missed a chance to remind her of the fact that Irene was Asher Land’s fiancée.
"But I think, knowing Asher’s character, he absolutely won’t agree." Oscar Land glanced up, catching the hint of panic in her eyes.
"There’s sothing I’m not sure whether I should tell you." Oscar Land’s tone was sowhat heavy, perhaps it wasn’t sothing good.
"Brother, just say whatever you want." Anyway, she felt she could handle anything now.
"I ask you, if you had to make a choice to leave Asher, would you or wouldn’t you?"
Would she, or wouldn’t she?
"I wouldn’t." She almost didn’t hesitate.
"Wouldn’t?" Oscar Land softly questioned back, the curve of his mouth gradually fading away.
"But do you know what price he will have to pay because of your refusal?"
For no reason at all, Sophie felt her heart tighten upon hearing his words.
What price?
She didn’t fully understand what kind of person Nathan Land was, but from so incidents, she could tell that he was far from a good person.
Last ti in Eastern City, just because Asher Land talked back to him, Nathan used a whip to beat him until he was a bloody ss.
For the sake of profit, he could even deliver his own won to different n.
What else is he capable of?
Seeing her silent and fearful look, Oscar really didn’t have the heart to continue, but if he didn’t say anything, Asher Land might follow in his footsteps.
"My legs were crippled because of a woman, and I don’t want Asher to end up like soday."
What?
Sophie felt like she had heard a thunderbolt on a clear day, her gaze slowly lowered to his legs, covered by a thin blanket.
Nathan Land actually crippled his own son’s legs?
She bit down on her pale lips. This was the consequence of going against Nathan Land. If Asher Land kept resisting, what would happen?
She couldn’t bear to think further.
Oscar Land also fell into silence, his thoughts seemingly returning to that night many years ago...
